What do you like to make in your Crock Pot?

I found this recipe on a website somewhere but, can't remember :confused3 . Anyway, dh likes this version of "Chinese" Pepper Steak

"Chinese Pepper Steak"

1.5 lbs boneless round steak
2 cloves minced garlic ( I use the kind in the jar)
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 cup soy sauce
4 tsp. sugar
6TBSP cornstarch
2 cans whole peeled tomatos
2 red/green peppers cut into strips
6 TBSP water
6 green onions, chopped
(prepare rice right before dinner)

Trim fat from steak. Slice meat into strips. Mix 6 tbsp. water with 6 tbsp. cornstarch until smooth. Put all ingredients in crock pot. Cook for about 5 hours on low setting. Serve over rice.

Ok, I must have done something wrong....I made the orange soda/Chicken breast meal and I hated it....It tasted like boiled chicken....Is the sauce suppose to thicken?? My family ate it but I could tell they were hoping I would never make it again....Oh well....I took the chicken off of the bone and will make chicken salad.

I do not know if this makes a difference but the recipe calls for boneless, skinless chicken breasts. If you used a roaster chicken maybe the flavor didn't "sink in"???? Sometimes "little" things make a big difference.

Try it again! LOL My dh loved it and he is a VERY good cook....he makes the "time consuming" dinners...I make the "good, quick and easy" dinners while folding laundry, booking WDW vacations, mopping the floor, doing homework, making lunches...all with a 2 yr old hanging off my right leg!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Keep them coming!

Thanks for posting this. That is what we use too. I was thinking about that.

Now my silly question is my oragne pop has caffine in it (sunkised, I didn't realize it when I bought a case of it.). Does anyone know if caffine remains in foods? I think it does. I would hate to have it for dinner and not be able to sleep or the kids not be able to sleep. ( I can't have caffine after 4:00 pm or I have a hard time falling alseep.)
I use the caffeine free brands-most orange soda usually is (My mom can drink most brands, and she can't have caffeine) I don't know if it would cook out or not, but I'd just check for another brand of orange soda.

The sauce doesn't thicken, but we'll still spoon it over the rice/egg noodles that we're having. I'm not sure what happened, but I've never made it with bone-in chicken. I've never cooked bone-in chicken period, so I don't know how that would change it.

I've tried a couple of the Crockpot Classics from Banquet.
They are quick and easy. If you are in a pinch for time (prep) it's just the trick. Today we had the Chicken & Pasta. It was pretty good! :)

Question:

What does beer taste like cooked? I am going to double this recipe for left overs. I am not a beer fan AT all... however if it doesn't taste/smell like beer I'm willing to try it. :)

I picked everything up and hopefully will hear something back before I start this in the morning :)

OH NO I didn't get french onion SOUP :( shoot I got french onion dry mix like for dip

I think I got both these recipes from the cooking board here, and they are both delicious and easy!

French Dip Sandwiches

Eye of round roast
1 can french onion soup
1 can beef broth
1 can beer
Put in crockpot. Cook on low 8 hours. Serve in crusty french rolls.

WEll, I'm a fan of beer :teeth: , and I really like the taste of it in a number of recipes...it gives the dish a nice flavor but isn't too over-powering. I always put a bottle of beer in chili. I'd say give it a try.

I made this over the weekend (with boneless chicken breasts) and my sons hated it. guess I'm having orange chicken leftovers the rest of the week for lunch.

Now I have to try it to see for myself. It is either a love or hate thing (or somehow did something wrong, but with a recipe that easy it would be hard to do that.)

I have meals for most of this week planed out, but I am trying it soon. :flower:

Oh, I am not a beer lover, at all. I can't stand the smell or taste of it. However I am thankful for beer battered things, (like fish and onion rings,) otherwise I could never have it. (since the altertive always calls for eggs or milk.)

I like to wrap baking potatoes in foil and leave on low all day.

I have a rump roast in mine right now! The only thing I HATE in a crock-pot is potatoes. I have tried cooking potatoes with my meat, and baking potates wrapped in foil and cheesy potatoes and they all have this really stange taste I don't like. I can even tell when someones brings a dish if the potatoes have been cooked in a crock-pot.

I love mine for turkey breast, roasts, and meat that needs to cook all day.

If you don't mind my asking, how do you do your turkey breast? That's something I'd really like to try in the crockpot, and the one recipe I tried was HORRIBLE! I guess it could have been user error, but the breast was VERY dry. :confused3

I will try it again using boneless chicken. The bone in may make a difference with the flavor. I dont care for a boiled type chicken taste....I had never cooked chicken in the crock pot before....so it may just be that I wont like any chicken that is cooked that way.
I want to try the baked pot. in the crock....Do you add some water or just put the potatos in the foil and cook??

Probably my favorite crock pot recipe would be Italian Beef.

3 lb. chuck roast (boneless)
1 pkg. Good Seasons Dressing (dry)
1 pkg. dry onion soup mix
1/2 cup water

Put roast in crockpot and pour in water, onion soup and Good Seasons. Cook on low for 9 - 10 hours. Shred the meat & mix the juice in crockpot. Serve on french rolls or buns. Sometime we'll add a slice of pepperjack cheese too! Very tender and yummy!

I make something very similar. It is really good!

My ingredients are:
1 beef tip, sirloin roast (3-4lbs)
2 (14 1/2 - 15 oz) cans beef broth
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 enevlope onion soup mix
1 envelope Italian Salad dressing mix
1 clove garlic, minced
1 1/2 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil

Wow, I just read every post from this thread! You guys sure did give me alot of idea's! :goodvibes I am going to use my crock pot on Friday, they are calling for cooler temps! Finally Fall is here! :goodvibes

Love all the ideas on this thread!! I was needing some new ones!!! I don't think this recipe was posted?! But, one of our favorites is

Roast over Rice

2 lbs. stew meat
3 cans cream of mushroom
1 can golden mushroom
1 pkg. dry onion soup mix (Lipton)

Mix soups together in crock pot. Brown meat in skillet and add
to soups. Cook on low heat approx. 5 hours. Serve over white rice.

I have found that not cutting the stew meat into smaller chunks it
cooks better and doesn't come out tough. We are a family of 6 so
you could put in less meat and take out one can cr. of mushroom if you
want to make less. :)

Just bumping this one up.

Anybody else? I have gotten some great ideas here! :)

3 Ingredient Turkey Breast

1 frozen turkey breast, unthawed
1 lb. can cranberry sauce
1 envelope onion soup mix

Put all ingredients in crockpot for 2 hours on high and then reduce to low and continue cooking for 4-5 hours.

Does anyone have a good chili recipe for the crock pot?

I use mine for roast beef a lot.
roast
can of crm mushroom soup
pkg lipton onion soup mix
cook all day
I usually throw some carrots in there too and then make mashed potatoes when I come home

Another one we do a lot is
Chicken breasts (or thighs)
can of crm celery soup
~1/3can water
a little garlic powder and paprika sprinkled on top.
carrots in the pot and sometimes onions and celery if I have it.
cook all day and serve with rice.

Are there any more crock pot ideas out there?
