What do you like about SSR?

subbing as I will be staying at SSR for the 1st time this December under cash reservation..

DH and I love to run - and are very much hoping that we can get some running in while at SSR - any ideas on distance around SSR and to and from DTD?

Thanks

Someone has done a map showing the walking times and distance between the areas of SSR, but I can't seem to find it!

My family and I loved SSR. We stayed at the Grandstand section which was a big help. We were the first to be picked up in the morning and the first to be dropped off in the evening. This was good b/c the bus was empty when we were picked up, we didn't have to find room for the kids and the stroller. Also, after a long day at the parks, it's nice to be the first off the bus. I also liked the pool section out by the Grandstand. It's a bit quieter than the main pool.

My family loves the peace and tranquility you could find at SSR. After fighting with the crowds for a few days, it is nice to escape the hustle and bustle. We spent a week at Kidani last week, and it is a nicely themed resort but after a week of the themed "music" (it's everywhere, the pools, bus stop, etc), it was grating on my nerves and dh was ready to call the exterminators lol. Access to DD is also a big plus in my book. 302 days till our SSR vacation :goodvibes

I really love the soundproofed rooms. I love that even when the resort is full, it is quiet. We've gone when it was full and barely saw anyone else.

I like the proximity to DTD. So far we have only stayed in Congress Park, so we walked to Marketplace. I would definitely love to say in Grandstand one day, but our next visit will be in the THV.

I love having the option of the THV's. One, it is unique. Two, they are stand alone units, so again, quiet and private. They have a large deck and each unit has its own grill. And, such a bargain since they are the same points as a 2 BR.

We really liked the Turf Club. Really good burgers, and from what I recall, my steak was very good, and DH's roasted chicken was also quite good.

We like that SSR is not on top of the parks. We like that it does not have "hustle and bustle." We happen to like the theming. Yes, the theming is accurate to the real Saratoga Springs in upstate NY. We like that it doesn't scream DISNEY but does have subtle Disney touches like the hidden Mickeys and the Donald statue. We like the beauty of the resort.

DH loves loves loves the gym. And I also think the gym/spa combo is great.

We appreciate other DVC resorts, too, but for us, SSR is home. When we stayed at the BWV, we ended up pool hopping to SSR because DH just didn't care for BWV's pool and gym.

Although we enjoy sampling the other WDW DVC resorts, we would be perfectly happy if the remainder of our WDW stays were at SSR. That said, we've stayed at VB in the past and hope to continue to stay there, and at HHI in the future. I would be sad if we couldn't continue to get our beach fix :beach:

SSR is great if you like DTD , your car being close to your room, and you like waiting on the bus for two days. I will take any DVC resort over SSR. Sorry and it is my HOME! James

LOL our longest wait for the bus actually happened on July 4th at Kidani. We waited for a DHS bus for 45 minutes while Epcot and MK buses were right behind each other every 5 minutes and DD and AK busses were after every 10 minutes. I realize this was an anomaly a we didn't wait that long a few days before for a DHS bus at the same stop but it does happen. We were at SSR in December during Christmas week and we never waited longer than 10 minutes for a bus. We also stayed at BCV for a week in June and hated the Epcot resort bus share practice but never waited longer than 15 minutes.

Have you stayed there lately? We were there last summer and the longest anyone had was not at SSR, but at MK to come back. My dad waited 40 minutes. But other than that, most DVCers have been reporting that bus waits are minimal now. And btw, a sorry isn't necessary, there are several DISers that have SSR as home and don't ever stay there. There is something for everyone and you use your points as you please. To me that's the beauty of DVC.

One of the reasons we bought SSR is because of the ability to do some serious running in different areas. My brother and daughter run marathons. She was quite happy with her runs early morning last summer. She took the loop around the lake and then over through DTD or to OKW and back.

Me and my 4 year old son stayed at SSR 1BR in March. We had minimal waits for the buses, back and forth to the parks. We stayed in the Paddock section because I wanted to be close to a pool and bus stop. (Unfortunately, the main pool was closed for refurb while we were there -- a big disappointment.) We had a smaller pool and the bus stop right outside our building. The grounds were beautifully maintained and the room was very nice. Yes, it was quiet, but I appreciated that after being at the parks for the good part of the day.

Don't ever be sorry for not using your home resort. One of the things I love about DVC is that you are not tied to a particular resort. You can try out a different one each time! After reading everyone's posts, I'm looking forward to doing that in the coming years. We make our first trip home to Kidani next March.

This is great - thank you very much.. We are returning in Jan for the Disney marathon's so this will be great for us...

SHUT UP! What are those potatoes with your steak? :yay: The steak looks good, but those potatoes (or whatever they are) look heavenly :cloud9:

lol, this totally cracked me up! My daughter says this to me all the time!

We were there over Easter. The resort was sold out, but didn't feel like it. We never stood up on the bus and they came in a timely fashion. We were in Congress Park and it was a hop, skip and a jump to DTD. (Can you say WGPE!!)

Artists Palette has great sandwhiches and flatbreads, but does get crowded.

Turf Club, my daughter, son in law and grandsons ate there one night and raved about it. My son in law said it was the best steak he had ever eaten.

When all of us went a week later we were a bit disappointed, but it was more due to our server. We ordered our steak and tuna and prime rib cooked a cooked medium, rare and medium (in order) and he argued with us about how they should be done. When our meals arrived my daughters tuna was medium well, the steak was almost raw, and my prime rib was well done. My daughter sent her tuna and son in law sent his steak back and both plates were back in about 5 min, and the tuna was still overcooked and the steak was barely to rare.

I asked to speak to the manager, they just said "sorry". That was disappointing, but my family had such an outstanding meal the week before I have to consider this a fluke. I did fill out a comment card at the front desk/check in, so hope the situation will not happen to others. Unfortunately I cannot remember the waiters name, but did list it on the comment card.

Other than that we were very pleased with our stay!
