We had the choice between OKW and SSR and I was torn between the two but decided to go for SSR because it was newer and also walking distance to DD. I have to say that I actually prefer the look of OKW and now feel like I made a mistake after hearing less than glowing comments about SSR, particularly the buses which we will be using daily. Please reassure me that I made a good choice. Thanks

We found the SSR buses to be great on both stays, Oct 2007 & Feb 2009. The reosrt is lovely and we would be happy to stay here again, even though we own at AKV. The pool at the Grandstand is fab, plus it has a pool bar and refill station. The walk to DTD is a nice way to get there. Also the Turf Club does great food. An added plus is the onsite Spa :teeth:

I like SSR (it is my home resort). I always try to stay at the Springs section. I like being near the main building. The times that I've taken the bus, I've never had any lo-o-o-ng waits 15-20 min. tops.

I like the Turf Club and the Spa. But I think what I like most is that I can get my Disney fix at the parks, come back to SSR and know that I am still at Disney without being overwhelmed with Disney sensory items. I feel like it is a place I can kick back and relax.

Our home resort is SSR and we love it. We requested the Grandstand section and it was the first bus stop to and from the parks.

We are staying at OKW in a few short weeks and are looking forward to it.

For those who have already posted, what are your favorite dishes at The Turf Club? We're going this weekend.

I love the look and feel of SSR. I like the fact that SSR does not feel like a hotel but a more casual condo style. We stayed at VWL and personally did not like the "feel" of long hallways (althought they are not as long as others) but WL in itself is beautiful.

The pool at Grandstand is great as well as the Springs section but you will enjoy just walking the grounds and taking in all its beauty. Also loved eating outside at the Turf club and food was great!!

You should have no concerns, when I went the first time as it is my home resort I was worried but believe me it was liive at first site. So enjoy....

Don't take on the comments of others as your own, unless you take this one - DW AND I LOVE SSR!

We have added on three times at SSR, find the motif just enough Disney to feed the need, love the facilities as a whole - Pools, Spa, Boats, Artist's Palette, Turf Club, Community Building, Etc.

It can swallow up all of the people it takes on and (other than breakfast time at Artist's Palette) never feel crowded.

We really enjoy the various Quiet Pools the different areas offer, and the early morning swim/hot tub is the best to get you going!

Fear not, for I bring you news of great joy - SSR will be a great "Home" for you and family.

We love, love, love  the tomato bisque with goat cheese. It is more of a dip than a soup, and it comes with bread to dip in it!

The burgers are fantastic as was the steak. Really happy with every meal we have had there! And it is one of the most reasonably priced restaurants on Disney property!

Also in regards to SSR- one thing I didn't like was the layout of the unit (we also had issues with the buses in May 08, but that was one day), but we really liked the resort itself. The quiet pools were a really nice escape at the end of the day, walking distance to DTD for more restaurant options, and we absolutely  Turf Club.

I'm experiencing the opposting of the OP on my trip. My fav resort is BWV, but we've stayed at SSR 3 times now. And LOVE it. Trying OKW for the first time in January, and hope we enjoy it as much as we've enjoyed SSR. We stay in the Springs, and find it to be the perfect location for us. Close to the main building/pool and not too far a walk from DTD. One of the things my family enjoys most is the Artists Palette for lunch time. It's great to have a lunch option that is not the typical burger and fries. Two of our favorites are the buffalo chicken flatbread and the panini. Yum!

Just seeing pictures of SSR makes me miss it. :lovestruc We love it more than we ever thought we would. Hope you have a great stay. :cloud9:

PS- we never had any worse bus service there, than we did any other resort.

to the OP, SSR is home for us and we love it! I don't know why SSR gets a bad rap! We love the "condo" feel to it and it feels much more like home to us. We were going to try to stay at another resort to compare, but so far, we have kept going home to SSR. The resort is beautiful. I guess some people feel that there is a lack of Disney themeing to the resort but we don't. On our last trip, we rented bikes and just rode around the resort for an hour to take it all in. The resort is very large, but it looks worse than what it really is! We have been fortunate enough to stay in Congress Park for each trip and we love it there! We are right on the water with a beautiful view of DTD. It's also a very short (maybe 5 minutes) to DTD.

As for the Turf club, DH and I ate there in Dec and have a ressie for our trip next month. The food is wonderful! We each had the steaks and they were fantastic!

SHUT UP! What are those potatoes with your steak? :yay: The steak looks good, but those potatoes (or whatever they are) look heavenly :cloud9:

I want to take my first DVC trip as an owner and stay at my home away from home (SSR) right now!!!!

Is that the steak with the lump crab meat?! Thats what i was thinking of having - that pic pretty much sealed the deal. :thumbsup2

Yes they are the "Turf Club" potatoes and that is crab meat on top of steak SO GOOD!!

We love SSR and have stayed at all the DVC resorts except Kidani and BLT.

Love how quiet the resort is. After going to the parks, love that feel of relaxation and tranquil settings.

Love the landscaping and the decor of the rooms, very upscale.

We really like the healthy food options at Artist Pallette and the sitting area is one of the most beautiful on property. The lights are just fantastic.

As others have said Turf Club is a hidden gem.

Great staff, centrally located to everything at Disney World, love the Spa and being near Downtown Disney and golf.

Can't think of a single thing we dislike about SSR.
