What do you have your AC set at?

When we first moved to TX from MI, we had it set pretty low, around 70 and it was perfect for us. The problem was that our electric bills were between $300-$400 a month from May through September. We had to find a way to cut down that bill, so each year we raise it a little and our bodies have adjusted. Besides, when it's 95 outside, even 80 inside feels like relief!

It only feels better for a second when you come in, then it feels like it's 80!

Sell things. Sell the children. I don't care, I'm selling something or taking out a second mortgage or whatever, but if it's 80, I'm putting the ac ON (actually usually if it's 75...), not going oh, that's fine.

Of course, this is one of the many reasons I wouldn't consider moving to Texas.

TX resident here. We've been told numerous times that if the outside temp is 100 or above setting the thermostat under 80 won't do much good & it will just run all day without lowering the inside temp. So, we set ours at 80 during the day & turn it way down at night (free electricity from 10pm-6am).

77? 78?? 82??? You guys are going to need to air condition your air conditioned rooms!

I'm with Cornflake on this one. Mine stays at 67 day and night.

I would freeze if I set it in the 60's, at work they were setting it at 70 and I had to take a sweater to keep warm! Besides that, my electric bill was $718 this month set at 75, so there is no way I can go lower! It's the highest bill I have ever gotten by $200!

Our AC is set to 72 unless I get hot and turn it to 71. We also have a window unit in the bedroom because it doesn't cool well in there. Our bill runs about $175 a month.

81/82 during the day, 78 at night. $175 bill.

Ours is set at 78°, unless I'm cooking or cleaning, then I turn it down to 76° until I'm done.

I turn my heat on when it gets below 70° in my house. I would freeze in some of your houses. Actually I'm very cold when it's below 74° in my house, but DH would kill me if I turned the heat on then.

AC? What AC? It's 88 outside, and 88 in my apartment. Was 100 yesterday, so today is more manageable!

Mine is set for 78 for hours we're home. It is on a timer and is supposed to go to 85 during the day but I've found it just takes too long to cool back down after that, so I've been overriding it. If I'm feeling super hot at night, I might push it to 76 or 77 but never cooler than that. The ceiling fan in the bedroom makes it pleasant.

Our bill last month was $125.

I will say our new A/C unit we got last summer is awesome. Our old unit was 25 years old and did the job okay, but now our bill has been cut in half!

70, until last night when I changed it to 68. Really humid and hot here. I'm not looking at the electric bill. I'll look again in October.:scared:

I'm glad to see you two's temps!

I'm at 71º

77 degrees in SE Michigan. I turn it down to 76 when I am trying to sleep after a night shift.

WOW!!!! Some of you would save some serious money if you would get new AC Units.
Ours is set at 69 all the time and our bill usually runs around $125.

However we got a new system last year....before new system we had it set at 73 and average summer bill ran $250.

The system cost around $2400 - so it has already paid for half it's cost - by next summer it will have paid for itself.

Hah, the heat doesn't go on unless it's below 59, and then it's kept at... 59! :lmao: Ocasssionally, might bump to 63 or so but it's rare.

I do not enjoy the heat.

We keep ours set at 70, although my DH usually gets up during the night to set it lower.

I just paid our utility bill yesterday, and it was $167. That is the highest it's been since we replaced our AC/heat pump unit, but we were right in the middle of that crazy heat wave with 100+ degrees. Normally, our bill ranges from $70-$90 a month. (And $15 of that is for trash pickup.)

We just got a new A/C unit and our bill is still $170/month with it set at 78°. Our house is 1600 sq ft, no pool.

Ours is set at 68, and I keep all the blinds and curtains shut but during the heat of the day when it's really hot or if I'm doing a lot of cooking, the actual temperature in the house will rise somewhere between 72-75. I just had to have that 11 ft. ceiling in my living room!!
