What Do You Give Up For Disney?

1.) Basic home & furnishings
2.) Compact Cars that are reliable (1 car paid off, 1 car pmt)
3.) Bring Coffee to work & have a can of cappucchino mix at work so I don't have to buy coffee there.
4.) Clearance rack or bargain shopping for clothes & shoes
5.) The trip is our B-day, Holiday & Anniversary gift for the year (will get small items for our DD, but nothing expensive or large)
6.) Grocery shopping at ALDI saves us about $150 - $200 per month.

...if all else fails, the trip goes on the Visa as our sanity loan.

Giving up:

1. Pedicures at the local salon ($35 every other month). :guilty:
2. Starbucks (I'm too afraid to calculate it). :rolleyes1
3. Loose change and $1 bills
4. "Quick" trips to Maui (we live on Oahu). At least for the next 2 years.
5. Shopping on Amazon.com, Disneyshopping.com, BathandBodyWorks.com
6. No new shoes until Spring (or Summer, if I can go that long)
7. Retail therapy during my lunch hour

We already hardly eat out. Even when DS and I do errands on the weekends, we go from morning until lunchtime, then we head home for sandwiches. I do indulge him in Jamba Juice, but no longer buy for myself. Pack a cooler and snacks when we're doing all day errands or the zoo.

I already only buy clothes from Ross, WalMart or Macy's (only when on sale).

But every little bit helps! :thumbsup2

Thanks for a great thread. :teeth:

This year I wanted to put a nice down payment on a real nice car, but oh well, WDW ruled that out....Now, I will just wait until Spring for the new car. Also, we did go to WDW this past Feb. but also gave up a few trips to Atlantic City, we usually go a few times a year. Anyway, I would give up a lot of things that I am able to just to go to my favorite place on earth! At least I will be returning to WDW in 1 year instead of two, like we originally planned. :Pinkbounc

We dine on tree bark and lawn clippings, plus we reuse our mouthwash. Saves bundles.

TOO FUNNY!!! :rotfl2:

By the way, my car pool (really a van pool) was trying to figure out how to say Wilkes-Barre (PA). We have two transplanted Pittsburgers and one from Indiana, Pa ... and none of us could agree. How DO you pronounce it!

The Wilkes part is easy, as in John Wilkes Booth, although he's not our name sake. The Barre is like the humorous writer Dave Barry says it. The local joke is you can always tell when a radio or TV commercial is produced out of town because the city name is butchered, usually some version of Barr or Bare.

1) Been putting 50$ out of each paycheck (now I only get 200 every 2 weeks so it is a nice chunk lol) to a special Disney account to help pay for the trip.
2) My mom and I are eating out less.
3) All christmas/birthday/college grad money that I will have between now and then will be saves.
4) I gave up Everquest *cries* This was the hardest for me because I have played 5 years and I am SUCH a geek.

First, my sanity!

In all seriousness, I have not gone out to eat as much since this trip was booked.
Not shopped as much, and I've given up TV time for the DIS boards.

We're using our sons inheritance. He's 29 and we decided to leave him all our Disney Souvenirs instead of cash. It will save him the trip. :thumbsup2

We stay at home most weekends, unless there is something really special going on...that way we don't go shopping and spend. I also don't eat out as often. We budget shop for almost everything....I save my change and take out $60 from each paycheck and use part of my tax return.

I like it!!!!! I don't have children, but I have always told my parents that they should enjoy their money - they earnt it!! Hey, they had to raise my brother and me - that's enough!! (And I'm no spring chicken, I'll add!!!)

PS Maybe your souvenirs will gain value...??? :confused3 Hope your son enjoys them!! :goodvibes

This is our plan! Our DS is 32yo and by the time he inherits all our Disney 'junk" it will probably be worth a fortune.

Well this may be a little different but this year while AT WDW I quit smoking...How can you be crabby in the most magical place? I haven't had one since our trip! So the money saved from not doing that is going into the fund, I just minimize our expenses--trying to keep Christmas light (they have soo much to begin with) and now DH has a vacation club with the credit union so we will set aside $$ in that. Plus I put all of our change in a jar to help out.
And this year any Christmas/Birthday/Anniversary money is being converted into Disney Dollars!

Oh my goodness I'm so proud of you and happy that you quit smoking!
Great job! keep it up!
:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

New furniture, new kitchen, updated bathrooms - the way we're going our address will be "Dogpatch, USA".

I have nearly halted my Gymboree buying habit for my sons. It is difficult, but the reward is hearing my 3 year old and 7 year old talk about our trip to Disney EVERY SINGLE DAY and they are so looking forward to our next trip! ;)

Seems like cutting back on eating out and Starbucks are the most popular ways to save for the Disney fund......for those who haven't tried it, try writing down what you spend eating out for a month....you'll be amazed!

I also ask for Disney Dollars at Christmas and for my birthday...and since the last two years and the one coming up, I go to Disney FOR my birthday, this has been working out really well for me. :goodvibes

I love the idea of changing my cash to $10 dollar bills and then just taking one ten with me per day. I'm going to try that one...then at the end of the week, convert the leftover $10's to Disney Dollars!

We took out the Disney Visa and make sure to pay it off within the 6 month 0% interest period.

Pretty much no new nothin'...well, perhaps cheap-o new somethings...anywhoozel--we brew our own coffee, spend lots of time reading library books and playing scrabble at bookstores and do a daily change dump in the ol' piggy bank. Soon our other car will be paid off (yay!) so that will add some extra heft to the Disney savings...where there's a will, there's a way :thumbsup2 to save for the magic :goodvibes

Now is crunch time because we have to buy our AP before the end of Dec. We don't have a rent payment so we don't go out to eat but maybe once a week
-don't buy anything I don't need(clothes, shoes)
-stay under $60 for weekly groceries
-xmas my dh and I give each other WDW, draw names w/family limit the price
-roll all change
-every week, we put extra $ in our disney bucket for disney dollars
We do everything to try to save for our disney trips. We are leaving for Gatlinburg in a couple of weeks and we are even skipping Dollywood to put $ towards WDW. We live for Disney!!
