What do you get if you can't cruise

We are travelling in hurricane season and I wondered what you got if the weather was too bad to cruise at all?

If like us you were not from the US and didn't have the oppurtunity to go at another time, would you be offered a refund?

I know sometimes you are given free accomodation in WDW instead, do you have to take this rather than a refund?

They always try to cruise. You may just get different ports than what is on the itinerary. The ship will try to steer clear of the hurricane activity.

I believe that refunds, reimbursements etc are determined by the travel insurance policy if you purchased one.

They try there hardest to try to sail. We were on a shortened 7 day due to Frances. I think they did give us some money back ( I think it was 40%) and they gave us 25% off a future booking. As far as other things. W were stuck in Disney World and they didn not give us free hotel. We had to pay for it, and the insurance gave us that money back when we got home. Never go without insurance!

Rarely, if ever do cruises not go because of a hurricane.....instead the Captain just goes to different ports or leaves a day later...but the cruise still happens.

If you have travel insurance you are covered and will be reimbursed if you cannot make your cruise to do weather keeping you from getting there.

If you do not have insurance it is hit or miss...the cruise line does not have to do anything for you, but they may reschedule you for another cruise with some fees involved.

It is totally up to the cruise lines descretion if they would offer you rooms at WDW (but it is not standard practice). We sailed during hurricane season last year and our cruise was delayed 2 days because of the storm....we needed a place to stay for 2 days until the cruise departed and asked DCL about getting rooms at WDW and were told we would have to pay for any rooms we stayed at....they would not pay. We had insurance so we were reimbursed for everything....but it is totally up to the cruise line what compensation they would give.

If you cancel before your final payment date you will reimbursed 100% of what you left for a deposit...if you cancel after final payment date you will be reimbursed on a prorated scale.

The only thing you can say for sure is that it will depend on the circumstances. THey will try to sail if at all possible, even if that means using a port other than Port Canaveral. They will sail to different places. Various things have been done....

There was a cruise that sailed around in circles in a safe part of the ocean--no ports. Those people did get some compensation from DCL.

People on the shortened cruises last year got a partial refund on their cruise fare, an onboard credit, and an offer of a discount on a future cruise. The amounts of the above depended on how much the cruise was altered. DCL provided transportation to the port in Ft. Lauderdale and back to MCO or WDW at no charge.

If a cruise is totally cancelled, your $ will be refunded. When our cruise was shortened, we also had the option of cancelling with a full refund.

No, they probably will not "give" you a WDW vacation instead. If the port is closes, WDW is probably seriously affected. We spent 2 nights there locked in our rooms with instructions (on the phone) asking us not to open our doors. We paid full fare for those rooms. If you have travel insurance, you will be reimbursed for your extra costs.

Bottom line--DCL will do whatever they can to treat your fairly. THeir desire is for a safe cruise first...they will do whatever they deem best to achieve that.
