What do you get for Valentines Day for your kids?

Nothing. Never have. :confused3 I guess I always looked on it as a romantic holiday for two adults.

Me too. I'm glad I'm not the odd man out. I've never thought to buy my kids "gifts" for Valentine's Day.

We usually get our boys something VERY small for Valentines Day....a big Reeses heart more than likely.

This year is different b/c we are actually revealing the surprise to them that we are going to Disney. I got them each a suitcase and filled it with a bunch of Disney stuff....chocolates, suckers, Funtainers, t-shirts, luggage tags, stuffed Mickey, games, coloring books, etc. along with a $50 gift card for them to spend at the parks. We will be decorating the house with Mickey heads so when they come down the stairs on Saturday morning (yes we're celebrating 2 days early...my DH is a police officer so we will both actually be home on Saturday) they will see the Mickey Heads and then the suitcases. After they see those and we reveal the surprise we are going to make Mickey pancakes for breakfast and watch the planning DVD while we eat them! I can't wait!!!!!!!

I got DS8 a Hotwheels set he's been wanting (75% off after Christmas), DD is getting a Polly Pockets-type Cinderella doll and horse (again, 75% off after Christmas), and DS2 is getting a Toy Story play-doh set (90% off!). All told, I spent $12 for everyone. Oh, and I got DH a paper shredder. He's been wanting one for awhile, and when I found it for $5, I couldn't pass it up! Real romantic, I know, but he doesn't go for the typical stuff, and I thought this might be a way of letting him know that I've been listening to his griping about shredding our statements by hand. I don't do candy because they get enough of it at their class party and then it sits around the house for weeks before I finally toss it.

Make that 3 of us. I already warned my kindergartener this year that most of the kids in his class will be getting balloons sent to them but he won't have one because I don't do that. I just want him to be prepared so he is not sad. My 3rd grader said he was the only one in his class last year not to get a balloon/stuffed animal but he didn't care. I've always thought of it as a sweetheart holiday, too.

I did make all of my kids cards and they will exchange valentines at school. I also try to make a special dinner that night.

The night before V-Day, after the kids are in bed, I put a red tablecloth on the table, set it with white dishes and sprinkle some themed-foil confetti on the table. At each place setting, I will put a small box of chocolates and a $10 certificate to something they will like (B&N, ToysRUs) and I will make a special breakfast. Hmmm...belgian waffles with strawberries?

For dinner I have a tradition of making a meatballs in tomato sauce recipe I made for my family when I was a kid.

Finally, a chocolate cake for dessert (homemade frosting, of course).

Maybe, I'll write each of them, and dh, too, a note telling them why I love them so much.:love::love::love:

I love ths idea best. :)

I spent about $8 per DD. They both got the same thing, just different colors. They will get a stuffed valentine dog (very plush and soft), a sequined coin purse on a keychain (to keep inside their backpacks to hold their small toys and coins), and their initial on a keyring(rhinestone) to go on their backpacks. One individual chocolate each. They get lots of stuff with their valentines that they don't need much more from us.

I make heart shaped pancakes for breakfast and I'm not sure yet what they'll have for dinner. My DD has gymnastics that night, so we won't all be together. I like the heart shaped pizza idea. I may use that.

Now Easter is a go all out, so we keep Valentines smallish.

If it were an addiction I'd call myself a gift giver-a-holic. :lovestruc I LOVE giving gifts making my family and friends feel special.

My children are both girls and are 3 +5 yrs old. They love all holidays, like their mom. :)

This year they are getting See's candy boxes and a basket of Paris themed items- a child's apron, 1 cookie cutter, love socks, red/pink headbands, a cup, heart crazy straws, lip balm, watch n grow capsules..and the best item, aside from the chocolates of course, is a pink Eiffel Tower bank from Pier1  I'll wrap them in light pink tulle and put a nice white bow on them.

My nieces and nephews, range 2-6yrs, get themed mini baskets too. I don't make them identical to my children's but they are nice.

Wow, I had no idea that people go all out for Valentine's Day. Our kids get a great big hug and kiss (like they do every morning), and they usually pass out Valentine's Day cards and candies to their classmates.

DD is 12 (almost 13)... she's getting a "sock monkey" stocking cap, a T-shirt I ordered from eBay, Angel by James Patterson (which releases that day), a Hot Topic gift card and a couple of chocolate dipped strawberries from our local chocolatier... she has a dentist appointment and a blood draw appointment on that day - two of her major stress-inducers - so, I wanted her to have a good day!

DD needs a new set of golf clubs for school and I found the Wilson Pink ladies set at Target for $49.98 so that's what she's getting and a dozen balls that were $2.54! I usually make a heart shaped meatloaf for dinner, but DD is not eating meat now so I'll have to come up with another idea, maybe a pizza.

My kids get a small paper valentine from me... with a little note. The DD who's still at home will get a few of her favorite See's candies. The DD who's off at college will get a paper valentine and an e-gift certificate for a Kindle book on Amazon I think she'll like. Simple, easy but still a treat.

My dd is getting a Pandora charm and my dses are getting some legos. I'm making everyone heart shaped rice krispie treats the night before and I'm going to sneak them into their lunch.

My kids have been begging for snuggies since they came out. They come home from baseball and have to throw their uniforms in the wash then run upstairs to the shower, or sit in their under shirt and boxers and do homework! I recently saw that Disney is selling them at the parks as parade blankets! So they are getting mickey mouse snuggies and chocolate. If you want to get want do a search and call the Disney merchandise number.

I made this for my daughter for Valentine's Day. I still have to make my son's. I'm going to take them to school on Monday and drop them off at the office. I think it cost around 8-10.00 a piece to make.

Valentines isn't really a gift holiday in our house. I get each or my kids a small assortment of their favorite candies from our local penny candy shop, about $3 worth each, and a little card to tuck into each of the school aged kids' lunches.

I got DS (7) Secretariat (he has been begging for it since we saw it in the theater! He doesn't like chocolate, but I think I might make cupcakes.

Why on earth would you take them to school instead of giving them to the kids at home?

This sounds very cool! Wish I could do something like that for my family, but as luck would have it, not to be in our cards right now....:sad1:

Very cute, but our schools would NEVER allow something like to be delivered to a student during the day! It is school and this would just be too distruptive due to all of the attention it would command from the other students... why at school???? :sad2:
I have to say that I don't always agree with schools' policies, but I do agree that this would not be 'okay' to send to school. Why can't it be waiting for them when they get home from school? :confused3

MY thoughts exactly!!!:rolleyes1
Why should everyone else's school day be disrupted when there are already enough other distractions to slow down the school day???
Just wonderin...:rolleyes1
