What do you get for Valentines Day for your kids?

I know some people that go all out and do a whole basket of "stuff" and others that don't do anything. What do you do?

I used to just give each of my kids a helium balloon, but they're kind of outgrowing it so I was thinking of just giving them each a small thing of candy this year, I'm not sure yet.

I got DD a Just Dance Kids Wii game (her first Wii game), with a $10 off coupon and it was on sale + free shipping.

I got DS a small (red) Lego tote container

I'll get them both a small chocolate from the chocolate store around the corner.
So about $11 each.

I bought them each a folder with their favorite sports team on them. They will get other stuff after Valentine's Day so I can get them on sale since I'm working on Valentine's Day, the days leading up to it and the day after.

We don't do much for Valentine's day. We are attending a party and they will exchange cards, but that is about it.

Their school sells Carnations that are delivered to the classrooms, so each girl will be getting 2 Carnations (one from mom and one from dad). We will also be giving them a card with tickets to the Justin Beiber movie.

I bought a Donald and a Daisy plush from the Disney Store for the kiddos, but DD found them first. D'oh! At least DD is happy with them, she's been carrying them around the house and sleeping with them, lol. DS couldn't care less, haha.

Oh well, I tried!

I am going to decorate DD's desk at school and at home she is getting the valentine pillow pet dog.

I found the unicorn pillow pet for $12.99 after Christmas and maybe we'll do cupcakes or something. DD is more excited about finding valentines for everyone else.

Normally I get them one of those candy hearts like from Russel Stover with assorted candies inside. But this year, DH & I were at Wegman's and noticed they have a "candy land" that's what we call a candy buffet - that our daughters don't know about! So we will be taking them there on Friday (we'll be in the area that day)
and letting them pick out a pound of candy each I think that's about $4/pound. I know they're going to love it because when we go to grandparents there's a "candyland" that they love to go to.

The pp who said their school offers carnations is such a sweet idea!

I get them a little trinket type thing, and then I do Valentine's themed dinner. This year, we are having pink, white and red heart shaped pasta with sauce, veggies, heart shaped bread (french bread cut out with heart shaped cutters), and for dessert, heart shaped chocolate cups filled with berries.

I hadn't thought of anything yet.. but now I'll be getting dd her Justin beiber movie ticket. Thanks for the idea I was going to pay for it anyway.. it might as well be a gift.

I bought each of my kids a DVD, which cost about $10 each. I am trying to cut back this year. My husband keeps noting how all of these "Holidays" are adding up!!! He keeps saying "what about Groundhog's day?".

I agree. We go all out for Christmas and they are going to Disney for their birthdays this year (a few weeks early). At some point enough is enough. I will be sticking to the 10 dollar mark too. Movie ticket for dd, something little for son and a few candies. The end. I don't get excited at all for Valentines Day.

My kids (DS8 & DS5) are getting heart shaped pancakes, heart shaped pb&j sandwhiches, we will frost sugar cookies for afternoon snack and a valentine themed Webkin (Lion for DS5 and hamster for DS8) on Sunday the 13th. Dinner is for hubby & I

I don't do a lot for Valentine's. This year I think I am going to get each of my boys a new water bottle (they also will need them for soccer) and filling them with candy (or buying a small chocolate box of candy for them).

The night before V-Day, after the kids are in bed, I put a red tablecloth on the table, set it with white dishes and sprinkle some themed-foil confetti on the table. At each place setting, I will put a small box of chocolates and a $10 certificate to something they will like (B&N, ToysRUs) and I will make a special breakfast. Hmmm...belgian waffles with strawberries?

For dinner I have a tradition of making a meatballs in tomato sauce recipe I made for my family when I was a kid.

Finally, a chocolate cake for dessert (homemade frosting, of course).

Maybe, I'll write each of them, and dh, too, a note telling them why I love them so much.

This is a really cheap holiday for us! I usually get them each a red foil wrapped hershey's kiss from Target during the xmas 75% off but didn't see them this year so I got dove's chocolate promises's that were 90% off after xmas. I'll give them each $5 gift card one to sonic and one to Mcdonald's and that's it. Dh is getting a Hershey's pot of gold from Xmas 75% off too and this weekend we did 'date nite' as both dd's had sleepover plans. We did have to scrap going out to dinner for drive thru at McDonald's because DD13's group project took over an hour longer than expected and we would have missed the movie if we went to dinner. But it worked out and we did at least get a night out! I'll be making penne alla vodka on sunday for a special valentine's meal.

I hadn't thought about it but I will probably do the "write each child a note" idea - SO sweet! - and they LOVE the lollipops from Staples which are HUGE and 2/$1, really yummy flavors...that should do it. I have quesadillas on the menu for that night, which everyone loves, and I'll think up a special dessert.

On the 20th, DH and I are going out for a nice "grownups-only" dinner which we NEVER do...it's the 17th anniversary of our first date. I'm excited! I have a Restaurant.com certificate for $50 so we have to send $100 altogether; it will be a WONDERFUL dinner!

I also got a Shari's Berries voucher and I have to figure out when I should have it shipped to hopefully arrive sometime next week (any day will do really).
