What Do You Expect From a Sig Restaurant Dining Experience?

LOL! You are confusing signature restaurants in WDW with Five Star, Zagat rated restaurants in 'The Real World".

No YOU are trying to find a hotdog at Michael Minas! :lmao:

The thread is about What do you expect from a SIGNATURE Rest......;)

Why not expect the same from Disney when you are paying "fine dining" prices??

Which brings us back to the thread subject:

Why can't these hypothetical three new "V&A" style, "jackets only" restaurants be true Five Star, Zagat rated restaurants?

What do you want to see in these restaurants?

Why is it wrong to not serve more sophisticated type of foods w/o typical kiddy foods?

Why is it wrong to have BOTH types of foods on the child's menu?? You are not the one eating it.... if the signature restaurants began to "dumb down" the adult menus (as they have at the nonsignature places, such as Coral Reef and Le Cellier) then I understand your argument completely. But just because they offer mac n cheese on a child's menu does not automatically make the adult menu is any less sophisticated. As a PP pointed out, Jiko offers mac n cheese with their filet...

Like it was mentioned someday you will be an empty nester and do you really want to see nuggets, pizza, and hotdogs on a supposed upscale menu?? That would flag the resturant in my eyes and turn me away.
And once I become an empty nester, I assure you, I will NOT be looking at the child's menu to see if it has been dumbed down or not ;)When I am not eating from that menu, it is of no concern to me.

Why put ones child in a kid club, why not take them to Chef Mickey’s, Tusker House, Crystal Palace, let them enjoy themselves.
I believe I explained in my first post WHY I don't take my family to Chef Mickey's instead of California Grille- because we ALL like the food at California Grille. Sometimes DS gets steak and sometimes he gets the house made mac n cheese. That is the wonderful thing about the signature places, it is his choice based on his preference at that moment in time.

Sometimes while on vacation I have seen parents dragging there kids into a “adult” resturant knowing they will hate it, you wouldn’t drag your kids into ToT or EE ( I know some do)? :sad2:
Perhaps some do both, but this is not the case for my family in either situation. We ALL love the signature places (and EE for that matter ;))

Some more food for thought ;)

When we lived in Orlando during the time you reference, Disney probably had the best restaurants (Ariel's, Artist Point, just as 2 examples) in the area.

Ahh, the old days.

How many of you have eaten a meal at Artist Point prior to the year 2000? It was an awesome experience.

In fact, we vacationed with a friend and her family who traveled extensively for business, and when she was in Orlando, she would take clients to Artist Point. Not anymore.

That's a shame :sad2: My one and only time there was in 1997, on our honeymoon and it was one of the best meals of the trip. Chilled buffalo slices for an appetizer... it was divine...

Not to continue to a contrarian, but I'd like to see it not be "jackets only". I have no problem with requiring a tie, but I sweat entirely too much as it is!

When it comes down to vacationing at Disney World, I have to drop certain expectations that I would normally have at other vacation spots due to the adult/child ratio. Should I expect noisy children the next room away from me while staying at a Deluxe Resort? Yes. Is there a possible chance of noisy children while I am at a Signature restaurant? Yes. With that said, I go into this vacation with those expectations so I don't have to stress out and complain over a 'ruined' vacation.

Okay Rip, as an original thread poster here, you get a lifetime pass to wear your Dale Jr. #8 Budweiser tank top (sorry the Amp stuff isn't grandfathered in). :lmao:

Just be sure to hit the pits with a razor prior to dining.

Especially in the Floridian heat and humidity!!!!! :rotfl:

It's kinda funny, because in the 80's and early 90s going as a kid, we were never impressed with the food overall at most of the restaurants there. Then, as you said, they seemed to make a truly concerted effort to bring in some top-notch chefs and reinvent their entire fine dining experience.

Then came the DDP.......

Alright, seven pages and 91 posts! :cool1:

DW said if I could get this thing to 100 posts we're hitting Denny's tonight for all you can eat prime rib! That, my friends, is fine dining.

And lil' Thump gets to eat for free. :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

That's why I'm thankful (living in south Louisiana) that the fine restaurants here don't require jackets! It's actually probably one of the reasons that they don't.

Ruined vacation, yes because of a bad hotdog.............:)

But why not expect different then the norm? Thats all I am wondering here?

Alright, here is a shameless contribution to get you closer to 100 posts...

Don't forget to ask for ketchup ;)

This is an interesting thread!

Just wanted to say that we will be taking our 2 pre-schoolers to several sig dining places this fall, paying OOP. But we made our ressies for the second each place opens...this way, our kiddos are out of there by 6/6:30 at the latest, which I consider a more "adult" time to eat. Works out better for everyone! And, believe me, if one or BOTH (:scared1:) of the kids are cranky or having an "off" day, we will eat CS and cancel the sig dinner!
