What do you 'do' with your towel animals?

I know it seems like a strange question, but I was a little unsure of proper 'towel animal' etiquette.

At Pop, both of our connecting rooms had really cute animals in the windows when we arrived (mousekeeping was really great for us).

The first night, we just left them in the windows. But then I started to wonder if the mousekeepers thought we didnt 'appreciate' them. So the next day I left them on the table, so they would know we saw them. DS wanted to play with them, but I was afraid he would take them apart and I didnt know if that was disrespectful to the time they had put into making them to just let my kid tear them up? We managed to keep them in one peice, and return them to their home in the window when we checked out.

So what is proper towel animal etiquette? What do you all do when you get a towel animal?

Seriously, I take pictures of them and then use them to clean up with.

You could take them home and let them collect dust. Thats where mine are. Collecting dust is our Disney room. Somehow I can't bring myself to harm a Disney Animal even if it's made from a wash cloth. I would have nightmares.

Some mousekeepers (maids) will make little animals or people or baskets out of the towels in the room. They are very cute.

This is what I have gathered from reading many posts about towel animals:

You are permitted to take them home.
The mousekeepers are not taught to make them. They learn on their own.
Some don't know how to make them, that's why they can be rare.
They are not required to know how to make them.
They make them out of washcloths that are getting a little wornout.
Some make them at home during their off time and bring them to work! (This is a definate fact from a mousekeepers daughter. Her mom makes them at home! Now that's Disney dedication.)

I haven't gotten a towel animal yet!

At POP we put our towel animals in the window.
At YC, we put our towel animal on the TV unit (made it look like he was eating from a bag of candy).
On the cruise, we moved them to the table. Each evening we can back to a new towel animal, but the old one was always gone.

We've never taken one home.

We put them in the window at our hotel, but my kids named a couple and carried them around the resort one day. Our mousekeeper saw them and looked really happy. Now, they are in our bathrooms.

We got a towel toothbrush holder (very handy!) and a little towel animal last week. We left them there........didnt' need anything else to pack and go unused at home! Good thing DD6 didn't know we Could take them home!

We just leave ours there. Usually take a picture of them. Very cute and I enjoy getting them, but I have no idea why anyone would want to take them home?????

I take pictures of them, but that's it. I don't bring them home.

I dissect them to figure out how they're put together then draw a sketch of it so I can create them at home.

Here are some pictures of towel animals, in case anyone is wondering!

During our stay in 2001 at Caribbean Beach, we had a few small bird towel animals. None at all when we stayed at the Grand Floridian, although they were very creative with turn-down service, arranging our Disney beanies on the beds. No towel animals the second time I stayed at CBR with my brother and his family, and no towel animals this past summer at the Wilderness Lodge (concierge). We did have a bird towel animal in the bathroom at our room at the Polynesian (concierge) however. You can see it in the picture below, in the corner on the right side of the mirror, it has a red bow around its neck:

We left the birds there during our trips, but the towel animals below we basically dismantled and used the towels. lol


Now, the best towel animals I've ever seen personally have been on the Disney cruise ships! Here are just a few from our cruise:

I can't wait!!!!!We go back in a week and a half! We got ours last year, I believe we got 2 while we were staying at the Pop. This year we are staying at BW, I hope we get them there! My DD5 loved it! we put ours in the window. We left ours last year because I didn't know we could take them home. This year I am decorating our window for Halloween. If we get them I will add them to my little scene.

We left our Aligator on the floor for the entire stay ! couldn't move him he was so cute. The elephant we moved from the bed to the chair and he stayed. We took the monkey home with us, after all she used our lei to make it, and I couldn't leave it he now hangs on our door knob in the hallway for now. Took lots of pictures just to remember them. I don't know if it helped or not, but I talked to our mousekeeper numerous times just to let her know who we were and say HI and how much we appreciated our clean room. After that first day, we always got something special. I also always left her a nice tip too.

DD got a "dog" made with a few towels, the head would come off while she slept - we also got a snake, and a couple of Mickey Mouse - and then the smaller elephant, and something else - our Mousekeeper told my Dad that we could take them home!! Which is a good thing because DD couldnt leave the tiny dog behind, she had it wrapped in the dirty clothes in her suitcase!!

Also the first day in all our "rush" to get moving, I forgot to leave our mousekeeper the tip envelope - and we still got an animal!! (I didnt forget after that, and yes gave her the 2 envelopes the 2nd day!!) My dad was usually in the room when she came and talked to her - she said told my dad 'goodbye' on Sunday, Dad was surprised she had 2 days off!! He then gave her a tip!! (I tried telling him they dont work 7 days straight!!) He said she seemed embarrassed and made sure he knew it wasnt necessary!! Very gracious, it helped make our stay "magical" imho!!
