What do you do with your stuff while you are on Kali River Rapids?

I don't want my video camera to get soaked, but I don't want to leave it in a cubby by the ride entrance either. Do they have lockers for you to put your stuff in? Can we do a "camera swap" so one of us can stay back to hold the camera while the rest of the family rides, then the other one rides with the kids or maybe DH and DD will stay while I go with DS? Sheesh, this is complicated!

We alwasy keep a garbage bag in the bottom of our backpack incase of storms. Throw your stuff in there (double bag it if you like) :)

There is a space in the middle of the raft that you can put stuff. Lift the plastic and put things you want to keep dry in there. I was able to put a fanny pack with camera, cell phone, etc. in there with plenty of room to spare.

They don't have lockers by the ride, they are in the front of the Park. But in the middle they do have a place to put your things. However I am always afraid of getting the camera ruined so I bring either a big garbage bag and a big ziplock bag and put the important stuff in there and then we can all go on together and enjoy the ride.

The giant (2-1/2 gallon) zip lock bags work nicely. Double bag for certainty.
We wear the disposable rain ponchos and keep the zip locks on our lap underneath the poncho. The ponchos actually work pretty well to keep us semi dry. We take them off as we exit and leave them for someone else. (Someone else had done this, and this is where we got the idea...thanks, to whoever! :))

AHA!

I was going to wear the ponchos. I never thought about holding stuff under them though. I think I'll bring the ziplocs and garbage bags too just in case!

Thanks!

I bought a box of ziploack bags just for that ride! Also a rain poncho for dear hubby. I also bought to use on the ride is a water proof disposable camera. I am hoping to get a few good shots of all the members of my family getting wet and the look on their faces! :rotfl2:

Thanks for the great idea about the waterproof camera. Will try when I go in January. :Pinkbounc

I just have to ask those who wear poncho's on Kali ... Why bother riding if you do not want to get wet ... there is really not that much to see .... :confused3

even help any on Kali? The way the water always comes up and over, can't see them doing any good!

Yes...you will get wet!

last time I rode the ride back in may 04 they would not let you take off your shoes and put them into the plastic holder, has that happened to change. i hate for my shoes to get wet.

I have a personal rule when it comes to AK days, precisely because of Kali: no light colored shirts, no jean shorts, no tennis shoes! Tevas and a shirt that won't become indecent if soaked for me.

I always put my pack/camera in the center portion and it's never gotten wet. Just to be on the safe side, though, I always put the camera in a Ziploc first. I once gave a spare Ziploc to a very grateful family in line at Kali for that reason. I always try to put my pack in the center quickly, because sometimes it does get a bit full.

If you have a baby, you can baby/camera swap. With a stroller, you can also bring a pair of flip flops to wear on the ride. They do not allow you to enter the ride barefoot, and they don't allow you to take your shoes off.
Personally, I like to wear a bathing suit under my clothes on the AK day. I have a dark green tankini suit that is great for that day. It doesn't look like a bathing suit at all, especially if I wear it with a pair of khaki pants/shorts and a tan open knit sweater that I have, if needed. While I've been lucky on this ride, I know that the suit would dry quickly if need be. If I were going to bring a camera on this ride, I'd say a plastic bag is good idea to protect a camera. I once bought a waterproof disposible camera that was pretty cool.
