What do you do with your pumpkins when you're done with them?

What I mean is, when Halloween is over and you have pumpkins sitting outside or inside, carved or not carved, how do you dispose of them?

Do you just throw them away and cart them out on trash day? Do you smash them up and reuse them for cooking?

I don't usually throw them in the trash because they weigh a ton. I don't use them for cooking because I'm not that clever. Seems like we've always lived next to woods, trees, etc., so I take them out to the woods, mash them down with my foot, and hope that forest critters will eat the remains.

What do you do? :confused3

We carve our pumpkins a few nights before Halloween. The next day I do the same as you and take the pumpkins to the back woods and give them to squirrels. The squirrels are ever so grateful.

I like the idea of giving them to the squirrels. That has helped me decide to go ahead and get some pumpkins tomorrow.

We throw ours into the woods. One spring we cut down a bunch of trees, but didn't finish grading (if that's what it's called) and that fall we had a mini pumpkin patch in our backyard...it was so cool!

Another squirrel giver here. They start nibbling on it as soon as I put it out on the stoop anyway  , so why not let them finish it off. :paw:

If I do not carve mine should I at least cut it up for the critters?

We have a compost pile. I imagine that is where our pumpkin will go.

I don't carve mine either. I've taken a hammer to them before and smashed them up into little pieces. Good stress reliever! Sometimes the pumpkins are soft enough to just kick apart. I kind of toss the pieces around and hope the critters have a good feast!

We break them up and put them out for the deer.

Good heavens, am I the only person in the world without woods or deer nearby??? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

I do have a squirrel that is apparently addicted to some substance in the bricks of my front porch and steps. He will sit and lick as long as he is undisturbed. We call him the DSL - Demented Squirrel Licker. But I'm not leaving a used pumpkin on my front steps for him!!!!!

Paint, then turn into pumpkn pie filling, freeze and enjoy pumpkin pie all winter!

I'm also put ours in the woods for the deer and squirrels.

cut it open, let squirrels eat it for one day then toss it in the trash. One year we cut it open and threw it away the next day but seeds must have scattered and the next year in my front yard garden we had a big pumpkin vine growing..we got 2 giant pumpkins off that thing that year!

If I let it stay outside, the squirrels will demolish it. After halloween I put it out back so I don't have to look at it. lol

Turn carved side to back and keep on porch as part of fall decoration until they are bad, then throw away in yard waste bags.

Uncarved, leave on porch as decorations. I have wooden turkey parts that I always put in one. When done, goes in yard waste bags.

Not leaving them out for squirrels as don't want to encourage any to stay around. No woods as live in city. :flower:
