What do you do with your Disney leftovers?

Leftovers? On another thread I read about a group loading their Disney leftovers into a tote and passing it on to incoming guests. During the night (I am one of those who is awake off and on solving the world’s problems :sad2:) I started thinking, what do DVC guests do with their leftovers when heading to their primary home. Some, I assume, put their non-perishables in their owner’s locker or load them into their car, but many of us fly and with liquid and weight restrictions we cannot bring home our leftovers. Therefore, what do you do with your perishables or leftovers (butter, milk, wine, beer, pop, etc)? Do you leave them in the frig for housekeeping (and if you do, is housekeeping allowed to take them)? Do you pass them on to an incoming guest? Do you throw the leftovers in the trash? Or do you manage to use everything before leaving?

I have had people hand me extra bottles of water when we arrive at the resort. The generous souls stated they were flying out and used their extra DP snacks to get water and now couldn't take them to the plane. That was a nice treat!

I wouldn't pass on any food items that had been opened including butter. I would assume there is a set procedure for Mousekeeping regarding any items left in a room.

Wyndham Bonnet Creek has a program that allows you to donate your unopened non-perishables, and they are taken to an Orlando-area food bank. I thought that was a nice touch.

Thanks DenLo for replying. I would not pass on open food products either. When we were staying at a state park cabin in KY I asked housekeeping if they wanted me to leave leftover non-opened items. They told me they had to throw everything away so on our last day we went around to other guests who were standing outside and gave away laundry items, pop, canned veggies, etc. I hate to just throw away unopened items.

Last time, we had 1 person not go at the last minute, and I forgot to adjust the water I bought. So I used some to make coffee with. I left some leftover soda for housekeeping. I FROZE the leftover tub butter, and packed it in a ziploc. It actually made it all the way home! I also froze 1/2 a specialty cake for a 60th anniversary, and carried that home on my lap. It made it as well...and we enjoyed that yummy cake AGAIN. Everything else we pretty much used up.

I've also heard of people handing incoming guests bottled water that they had left.

Hope that helps!

I try to only order what we will consume but there's always some things left over. I save unused condiments from take-out meals at home to bring to disney, and find those single use coffee packets from hotel stays are great to take too. The last time we were at SSR we felt better leaving food behind after seeing the housekeeping staff loading huge bags of these kinds of groceries into their cars when they left the area. I would think it is a big bonus of working the villas as opposed to the hotel areas of the resorts.

Bell sevices staff really appreciate unopened bottled water. Back when we used to buy bottled water, we'd always leave leftovers with them.

If I have extra laundry items left, bleach, etc. is it ok to leave them in the laundry room for others? Should I put a sticky on them to let others know they are up for grabs? What is the protocol?

Many thanks!

I usually leave the usable things in the villa for the housekeeping staff. If they have a use for them, great. When walking down the halls, take a look at the housekeeping carts. You'll frequently see "goodies" that the housekeeper is saving.

We usually have flowers delivered by the Disney florist for our stays. If they're still looking fresh, I'll transfer them from the DVC mug (which we take with us) into one of the room mugs. That way, they can brighten up the work room for a few extra days.

We've always given our's to the housekeeping staff. We always end up buying more than our eyes or stomachs can ever eat. The morning that we leave, I put out on the counter all that we're leaving. I then find the housekeeper that cleans our rooms, and show them. They have always shown appreciation for what we give them.

In june DH went out and walked around the resort giving out our left over popsicles :rotfl:

All drinks.....couple bottles water, powerade and soda, we came to bell services. They seemed happy to have them.

Fruit and such we just tossed.

I gave bell services my left over popsicles. They appreciated it because it was a scorching day!

We've had different beverages and stuff left over... Some goes in our owners locker, we gave the beer to the "neighbors". We also gave away our mugs, figured that they will probably have another design next year when we get there.

Wanta be my neighbor? :rotfl:

rentayenta - Bell service got out leftover Pacifico and limes.

What is "Pacifico"? Sounds good, esp if it goes with limes.

I leave my unopened leftovers.....you never know what the maids might want.

We just left Friday, and I posted on here that I had a case of bottled water for the first person arriving at OKW that wanted it - found a fellow DIS'er and left it at front desk with her name on it for her to pick up.
The rest of our canned goods, we left in a bag with a note for housekeeping that we would like it donated to a local food bank. We noticed a food bank truck at the resort the day before, so figured they must do that with leftovers.
