What Do You Do With The Extra Clothing?

We are going to The World Thanksgiving week. We have been told that the weather is typically in the upper 40s in the mornings and low to mid 70s during the day. What do you do with the extra clothing you wear when you go to the parks then take off later? We don't use strollers anymore so it seems like a lot of coats or jackets to carry around.

DH is the "clothing mule" with a small backpack. In goes the windbreakers, bottom part of everyone's convertable pants. Hats, gloves and long underwear tops if the weather looks like we need it for an evening in the parks.


I've been watching the Thanksgiving forecast on Accuweather(we're going 11/21-11/28) and from what I'm seeing it looks like the hats,gloves and long underwear might need to make the trip(just for going to the parks at night).

We had similar concerns & issues when we went last January. Here's our strategy...

First, I packed those convertible zip-off cargo pants for both DS and DH. They cut down on our packing issues and allowed them to start out & end the day with full pants and then if / when it warmed up enough during the afternoons they could zip off the bottom of the legs into shorts. We just rolled up the legs and stuffed them into the backpack.

We left the 20's behind while we were down there so we needed heavy winter coats coming & going - we all wore ski jackets with zip-out linings so we could be dressed properly both here and there. The zip-out linings were really perfect - we were able to mix & match the fleece linings in FL or the outer wind breaker layer as needed. It DID get downright cold one day. A front came thru while we were at Epcot and the wind picked up - by sundown we were wishing we'd worn our full jackets, linings & all and hats. We got so cold we had to call it a day early and go back to the lodge.

Finally, we also rented a locker up at the park entrances a few times. They're like $10 up front with a $5 refund when you return the key - so a pretty good deal. If you park hop they'll give you a receipt to take to the next park so you don't have to re-rent one. We sometimes started out the day with 2 or 3 layers, peeled them off, stuffed them into our backpacks & eventually got tired of feeling so bulky. DH was usually our "runner" if we decided we needed ponchos or anything. The lockers were definitely handy and were worth the $5 bucks.

Just go prepared for anything and HAVE FUN!

We are going Thanksgiving week also and I just checked the 15 day forecast and continues to change. If I recall correctly, yesterday the forecast for 11/24 was a high of 60 degrees, today the same date is at 66 degrees.

I'm hoping for low 70's and sunny, but 60's are good too!

So true!!! I generally use it as a guide and then never look at once we get there!

I also agree on the rain. I'll take 60's and sun any day.

We are from New England and proud to say that only a NE'er can be comfortable in shorts and wearing a hooded sweatshirt. Did this in Dec and Feb trips. Accu-weather is better. And I am the "mule". Thanks for noticing

Actually, except for the hood (no one here does hoods unless it is raining or you are making a fashion statement), that wardrobe also describes Southern Californians. My DH and I were in DL just after rope drop one clear but cool day in early Jan in our sweatshirts and shorts and the CM took one look at us and guessed we were from California! My DH wears shorts all year round, even with his winter coat! -- Suzanne

We usually do a mid-day break/nap, So that helps being able to dress lighter for the warmer weather if you go 10am-3pm then button down when you go in the PM!

Yes, that is the SoCal wardrobe. My DH wears shorts and his fleece vest or jacket when it's cold.

Thanks for the replies on this. We hadn't thought of the lockers and we do take a backpack.
