What do you do with left over groceries?

Hello,
I am ordering groceries for the first time for our family trip in April. I know after reading several posts, people say error on the side of caution and order light on groceries. I am primarily ordering milk, juice, water, pop, cereal- and snacks as I have two 3 year olds. We are flying and will not be able to bring much back home with us. I would anticipate we might have some unopened water and soda and perhaps some other items that we might not have used. What do you do with your left over groceries? The thoughts of throwing them away or just leaving them in the room really doesn't appeal to me, since I do not like to waste food whenever possible.
I would love to hear ideas and suggestions!
TIA!

I believe that many will go to the lobby and ask people that are checking in if they want the unopened items.

:) We gave our water and cokes to the bellman and he said they would enjoy them, especially the cold sodas.

The last time we had leftover juice boxes I wandered outside our hotel room looking for a family. No families were to be found, but the Mousekeeping ladies gratefully accepted them.

For things like water, soda, juice boxes etc, we usually just go out to the hall, lobby or parking lot and find someone who is just arriving and "gift" them with the items they could use. I've even gifted things like ice cream bars, boxes of pasta, and unopened items like that.

If we have partially used items, we throw them away, but things like fruit or snacks can be put in a suitcase.

I have seen posts on the board that people have left the day before leaving to see if someone arriving wants items they know they will not be using and setting up to have the things left/given to them.

We got into conversation with the family next door, and when they left we happily received their leftovers!

I'm assuming you have to pay a fee to check your bags. If you have any "free" baggage allowance, you should bring a suitcase or rolling cooler from home already packed with groceries that cost substantially less than those in Orlando. Then you can take the stuff home again.

If I do leave food, I figure the maids put it to good use.

Always seem to be families around in the lobbies with kids that can use the "leftovers".

I put everything on the counter in the villa and leave a note for mousekeeping to please keep anything they want.

I've left unopened drinks by the vending machines with a "FREE" note on them.

This is exactly what we do. Throw away anything that has been opened and 'gift' the rest to mousekeeping.

Last time we were in this situation, DW walked out to the pool area over at BLT / CR and found a family that was interested in taking our unopened extras.

We've been lucky the past two trips and found someone here on the Boards arriving the day before we leave. Meet up with them and hand over any leftovers they're willing to take. Bell Services will gladly take any cold water also.

Also, we tend to err on the side of extras--it's so much cheaper to get water, beer etc off site I'd rather have a little extra left :(

Last trip at the BWV, we sent outside and gave away our Mickey ballons, a bottle of unopened champaigne, a couple beers, and a box of fruit snacks. It was the night before Christmas Eve, they were thrilled!

Depending on when we will be back and expiration dates- We either give the unopened extras to Mousekeeping or put them in our Owner's Locker.
