What do you do with camera while on rides?

I REALLY can't remember what we did on our last trip.

We took our "big" 35mm camera and carried it in our backpack. I THINK we took it with us on "tame" rides, but I think we left it in the bottom part of the stroller on wet/wild rides.

This trip we'll be taking a digital camera, but it's fairly large (not the pocket type) and will have the same issue.

What do you do with your camera while on the rides?

I don't know why, but last trip I just wasn't concerned about theft, but after reading some sad posts, I'm thinking more about it this time. :(

I put my camera in its case and into my backpack. Which I take with me on every ride. Even the crazy and wet ones. Being inside two bags the camera is fine.
Actually I have never had a problem with my backpack getting so wet that the contents got wet. Slightly damp on the outside is the worst that's ever happened.

Let not your heart be troubled.

I would never leave it in the stroller personally. We carry ours in the backpack and take it with us on everything: Space Mtn, RnR, ToT, Big Thunder. I just put the bag on the floor and usually my leg/foot through the strap. We kept a ziplock incase we did wet rides but we usually don;t do wet rides anymore.

I found a slightly padded fanny pack just the right size for my digital camera and that way I can tuck it under my shirt if there is a danger of wetness and if not it just stauys firmly in place. A few rides require a little care so s lap belt or bar doesn't hit it but so far it has worked great. That way I am not so tempted to set it down somewhere and forget it. I hung my 35mm camera over the back of a chair many years ago at a restaurant in MGM and realized I had left it there just as we got on the back lot tour ride. My DH jumped off the ride just before it started and met us at the end - camera in hand. I was so sure it would be gone when he got there- we had been in line 30-45 minutes before I realized it was missing- that I really didn't enjoy the ride. Thankfully there were no dishonest people there that day.

Ok, so they let you take your backpack on rides? All the rides?

I was thinking that I'd have one backpack (bigger one) with change of underwear and shorts for DS3 (just in case) and MAYBE a pair of lightweight sandels for me to wear on wet rides (because of heel pain, I want to walk in tennis shoes, but don't want them to get wet). We could have our little fans and/or water bottles in this backpack, too. Also, maybe a few small snacks for the kids (like fruit rollups or granola bars). I'd like to leave this in the bottom of the stroller.

In a smaller backpack, I think I'll put our camera, any sunglasses and hats that aren't worn, maps, some trading pins and autograph books (2). I would take this onto all the rides with me.

Question: if I do this, maybe I don't need the fanny pack? I was thinking of it for our passes and money. But, if the backpack stays on my back, would I really need the fanny pack?

I'd probably feel more comfortable with having pass and money in fanny pack, but then again, that's something else to "carry". What do you think and what do you do?

I don't know why I'm stressing over this. I guess I just want to be prepared.

Or...... DH could carry passes and $$$ in his fanny pack and I just take care of backpack.

PLEASE help me on this one!!!

I personally take both a fanny pack and a backpack. The fanny pack holds the money, tickets, sun glasses and such.
Everything else goes into the Backpack.

And yep, I have taken it on ALL the rides at Disney World. Either there is a pouch for you to put it in, or as DisFam95 said I put it between my feet with my foot through the strap.

Have Fun! :teeth:

We just take the camera on the ride with us unless it is a wild ride in which case I sit it out and I hold it while DH and DS go.

thanks for your replies.

It sounds like I'm not crazy if I take a backpack (with camera in it) and have a fanny pack on. I'll take both with me on the rides.

I'm still thinking that I can leave the "clothes" backpack in the bottom of the stroller. What do you think?

If I need to, I could probably pack everything in one backpack, but I was thinking it might get heavy or I might drop something getting other stuff out.

Does anyone else stress out over the camera/backback issue? I feel really crazy about this and I usually am not quite that uptight.

thanks for all the good info!!!

(maybe I'll start a "do you leave stuff with stroller" thread)

Hi Nuzmom,

I also carry both a backpack and fannypack. As others have said, money and passes will go in the fanny(waist) pack and umbrellas and ponchos as well as anything DS decides he wants to buy will go in the backpack.

I am the designated pack animal for the family.

I think the clothes will probably be fine left in the stroller.

Have a great trip!

I have a camera fany pack that is waterproof and very well padded. It is a nice size and comfortable to wear all day, even on the rides. And because it's waterproof, I don't have to worry when on Splash Mountain.

It's made by lowePro, the Orion mini, and is very popular, you could find it with an easy web search. Good luck.

We go to DL a couple times per month....during the hot (SoCal version of hot is 80 degrees, 10% humidity, btw  ) months, I carry a CamelBak pack....it has a built-in water reservoir that holds about 3 liters...very nice and a great alternative to the $2.50 bottle of Dasani!

There is plenty of room to stow other items such as cameras and stuff...

Check 'em out at: http://www.camelbak.com/

we have a padded camcorder bag with a waist or shoulder strap that my bulky 35 mm fits in with room to spare ( put it inside in a plastic ziploc bag for wet rides) that fits right along side us in the seats so it is strapped in also. never moved on any rides. holds our passes ect also.

mo...if i needed change of clothes ect i would pack them by themselves in a see- through bag and leave them in the stroller....the likely hood of them gettting stolen might be less if they can see they aren't valuables, no offense but who wants aratty old pair of flipflops:)! i would not put my passes, camera , money , anything of value in a backpack..to easy to pick cause especially the passes, you want to be able to get to them for fast pass so it would be a pain to put them under everything else. i'd either put them on something on me,ie front pants pocket or in a zipped bag i carried where i could see it.

We take it with us on every ride. I would never dream of leaving it unattended!!! We have a small camera bag that we just got at Target recently, and both our digital video and still cameras fit in there. If we needed to keep it from getting wet, we'd just put it inside a plastic bag! :)

Ok, I just read through the rest of the thread...

As far as leaving stuff in the stroller: The only stuff we leave in the stroller are things that are not expensive or difficult to replace. So snacks, drinks, and CHEAP/small souvenirs. Other that those things, we take everything else with us on every ride. We just don't carry a ton of stuff, it has to fit in the camera bag, my tote bag, or dh's fannypack. We also don't buy any big souvenirs until the end of the day on the way out of the park, or at the end of the trip at DTD. :)

What do you do with your camera on something like Space Mountain and Rock n Rollercoaster. Or even bigger rides like those at Universal. Can you bring a backpack on that. ANd aren't you afraid it will fall off?

my husband had ours in our case on his shoulder ( strapped) and held in next to him under the restraint on all the rides..it was fine on everything at wdw, didn't go to universal

Depends on the ride. I have a nice Tamarac camera bag that is padded, so I feel safe with it in there. Depending on the ride, I take it out and take pictures. :)

This past spring my friends went to WDW and they had their diaper bag stolen out of their stroller...in it was my friend's new $300 cell phone!
