What do you do when.....

Oh, I know, my friend has a 500 square foot condo on LI. He spent around $350K on this place, and its not that nice.

My partners Sister and Brother-in-law are somewhat of snobs and they think an address is everything, so they bought a condo in NYC based on the address. Their 374 square foot condo was so small, and the price was close to what most dream to have in retirement savings.

You'd be surprised how much a simple address can go to people's heads. If I had a Manhattan address I'd probably be announcing it to the world for the first 2 years. My friend Jeffrey has lived there for a little over a year, and you can tell he's proud of it even though he tries to hold back his enthusiasm when he brings it up.

The most expensive homes here in Columbus go up to about 2 million dollars, but there are only a small handful of these types of homes in Columbus "proper". These homes are hu-mon-gous! A few of them are over 8000 square feet. A 2-million dollar condo in Manhattan is going to be relatively nice, but it'll still only going to get you around 800-900 square feet. To own anything nice over 1000 square feet you'll be paying at least 3 million buckaroos. I knew there was a reason I watched HGTV. ;)

Money "ain't no-thang but a chicken wing" in Manhattan. It was kind of odd seeing early 20-somethings wearing clothes that probably cost more than my car.

I am actually kind of excited about the possibility of starting over. It is probably foolish, but still....

If money wasn't an issue, I'd be in love with the idea. But since the economy is so bad where I live (although there has been a twinge of improvement lately) I'm just not as enthusiastic about it. In fact, I'm pretty scared.

Luckily I've almost gotten my resume looking fresh and sparkley-new, so I'm hoping the interviews will commence within a week or so. My friend Jeffrey is amazing at writing, and has helped me rephrase and add to my resume, and if it helps me get a job I'm going to owe him a dinner at Victoria and Albert's the next time we go to WDW. :lmao:

Yeah, a friend helped me with mine too. I am going to float it around Pittsburgh and DC. I don't have the money either, but I am ALWAYS up for taking a chance or two...lol.

Good luck!

Here's just a little "FYI" that I'm sure you already knew, but here it is anyway:

On average, DC apartments tend to be slightly more expensive than Manhattan apartments, but you do get a little more square footage for the price you pay. The only reason I know this is because that's where Jeffrey lived before he moved to Manhattan, and he gave me an in-depth comparison of the cost-of-living for both cities when we were waiting to get a table at 'Ohana. :lmao:

Hang in there, I bet something will come your way........good luck!!:)

Thanks for the tip! Actually, I used to live in DC. I have friends there too, so I can do the roomate thing if I need to. My problem is being paralyzed by indecision...but I am working on it. ;)

Ahhh...I love 'Ohana. Kona Cafe too! lol
