What do you do when your computer won't update??

My display driver needs to be updated but whenever I try and load it, it works fine but then I have problems on rebooting....It will not update after reboot...and now I got to look at this dinosaur screen with all these dots making it blurry....HELP

When I try to go into settings and display it I keep getting a rundll32 error and it kicks me out...

I had a problem with one of my drivers and now all I have is the basic 16 Color display available in my settings options...
I will look into Compaq site tonight when I get home..
