What do you do when you get "the look"

You know, when people ask you why you go again or why do you love it so much....

I just hope someday it won't bother me so much and I will not try to explain, again...

I know exactly what you mean. Just booked a 3 night stay this September for just DH and myself. We have an AP that will expire in October, and we normally will not have one, so we thought why not. My friend already hassled me when I tried to explain that it made sense over other places because of the AP and cheap airfare and quite frankly, we love it. I don't even want to tell my parents. They don't even know we bought into DVC, so this is going to be hard to explain. Much easier to explain to you all here.: Maybe some day I'll get over trying to justify it to other people - gosh knows people around here go up to their lake houses all the time and that's OK and not considerered redundant, but WDW just doesn't make sense to them! Thank goodness for DIS.

He who pays the piper calls the music.
If someone wants to pay for me to go on a vacation, I'll gladly go and have a great time on them. If I am paying I am going where I want to go and no one is going to tell me not to.

I know what you mean. My co-workers were teasing me for going so much. I said we tried Washington DC and were disappointed because everything closed at 7 and there was nothing to do in the evenings, and it was hard to find a good place to eat. I said at WDW something is always open, transportation is safe, you can find a restaurant and there is always something to do. One of my co-workers said he loved DC. I said "what did you do in the evening?" He said, "we went to a cemetery." Everyone started laughing at him! I think they got my point.

I can think of a few words that stop all of those looks:

My favorite two words: "Burning Man"
After that: "Comic-Con"

OK, so I work with techies... could ya tell? I think it's great that everyone has a favorite place to go relax and forget the every day world.

Ours happens to be a resort in FL that's known for having the best theme parks anywhere.

So, Who's to judge?

People don't question DH and I anymore because we've been going for so long that they've learned not to. I have said things like, "It's no different than people who go to their mountain cabin, or their Beach house every year."
We also actually say 'we're going to Orlando" rather than WDW, and we say 'we have a timeshare'...for some reason people seem to understand that if you have timeshare (dvc to us that know) that you need to use it. Mostly we're just amused by their reactions.

We do go plenty of other places, but our DVC vacations are our 'escape" from the real world.

We bought DVC in may and I did not tell my friends and I'm so excited I wish I could do it without the looks and remarks that make me feel like I am the Queen of Weird people...

Even my husband, who loves Disney too, think I need some kind of therapy

Well, thanks everyone, I know I should not care about that and I can tell myself the same reasons you do but when they are in my face, I still go on explaining...maybe someday...

If I felt they were genuinely curious about why I thought WDW was such a great place to vacation, I'd gladly explain.

If I felt they were mocking my choice of vacation destination, I'd ignore them. It wouldn't bother me at all, as the fact that they're rude enough to do something like that is their problem, not mine.

times a year and we get the same question...why?

I try to explain it to them and it seems to fall of deaf ears...until they go the first time...and they see all there is to do.

We haved used our DVC as a place to stay while exploring the rest of what Florida has to offer and we do travel other places....but HOME is HOME!

I'm always get "Disney again?!?" from the guy at the office that has gone to Myrtle Beach every spring to play golf with the same three guys for the last 25 yrs. My answer is always, "yes, and with my family".

I know!!! I almost always get that from people who go to the same place over and over or the other ones who don't go anywhere at all


And we do take vacations elsewhere! I want to show my kids the rest of the world but Disney is a special place and my favorite one!

We were once the spokesperson for all things Disney and now just keep quiet unless asked or something comes up in a conversation. We just kept getting those puzzled looks and asked why we go so often and "you bought a Disney Timeshare" look. About the only people we actually talk Disney to is our kids and grandkids. Two of our favorite couples have the same problems, however theirs are camping and boating. I guess that is why there are so many options, there are so many different people...smjj

We just say it is our "Home Away From Home". It is where we feel comfortable and always have a good time.

Plus airfare up and down the eastern coast is much more affordable than trying to fly anywhere out west.

Disney has something for everyone and we have done 3 generation trips.

Recently, someone told me that they were jealous that our adult children still want to travel with us. Their children don't go anywhere with them.

I think having DVC and great Disney resorts with family entertainment helps keep our family together.

Staying on site and having Disney transportation available makes it so easy for our family to spend time together, but also have some time apart. Where else can you go and have such freedom?

This topic comes up fairly frequently and it is especially prevalent amongst DVC owners since we go more than most. I just don't discuss it at work, there are no DVC members or even very many who have ever been to WDW. I agree with others that have mentioned the fact that no one bats an eye when people got to the same beach, the same resort on the same week every year, how is that any different than people who go to Disney every year? I guess it is just less common.

I will be going 4 times in 17 months so if anyone at work asks, I'm going to stay at our timeshare!

I know it comes up frequently, I'm sorry. I don't discuss this at work either, our children are young and I get those questions from their friend's parents... Yesterday, I got one particularly nasty look so I was a little sad

Over the years my friends, family and co-workers, some lucky enough to come with us at times, have seen pictures of us having wonderful times at Disney. They've seen pictures of the various resorts, and the kids at the pools etc., I keep a few pictures in my office and I think most are envious more than anything else! I still think a lot of people don't understand the concept of a Disney timeshare compared to the timeshares of the past.
