We leave Thursday for a 3-night on the Wonder. I am concerned that with the current storm, our weather will be more on the rainy side. What suggestions do you have for inside activities during the day? Do they do anything special? It is just DH and I.

Um.....you get wet???

Seriously, they move as many activities as possible inside, the captain sails around the storm if at all possible. Rainy days on Castaway are not a lot of fun; fortunately after some rainy mornings, we're generally had it clear in the afternoon. Basically, you stick to sheltered areas--read in the Cove Cafe, see a movie, go to the spa, hit the work out center, etc.

Thanks for the laugh and the ideas!

I was thinking the same thing. You get wet. We had a rainy day at CC, but it didn't stop us from having fun. We were in our swimsuits, anyway, and it wasn't really all that bad. They showed movies on the deck that night, and a lot of us sat out there in the rain or off to the side just out of the rain. It was a blast either way.

It rained when we were at CC. My husband was in the water the whole time. My children built sand castles. My boss always joked that a rainy day at disney beats a day at the office. He is right :)

It was fun!

Given that Ida is a cyclone, the ship will definitely steer clear. The storm will likely be pretty well gone after it crosses land, but ships will always give a tropical storm a wide berth. (I won't get into details about where a ship goes in relation to the direction of the storm, but there are detailed calculations as to the safe zone.)

Other than some rain from wide area bands from the storm, you might experience some heavier-than-average seas. It is always possible that the ship's route may be changed to keep you away from the storm, but the seas might catch up with you.

At the same time, there is no shortage of things to do while aboard that do not require you to be on deck. If there is one thing Disney knows it is entertainment.

DISNEY takes care of your needs and keeps you safe.

One time we couldn't dock at CC because of high winds. During the morning they added extra activities onboard for us. Then a little before noon the captain decided conditions would not improve for docking and we "flew" to Key West for the day. That ship can really move or it's a lot closer then you think to Key West. When we got there DISNEY had free transportation at the dock to take you downtown and also on a tour of the area.

On one of the 7-day cruises...I forgot which country we were at...again the waves were too high to dock or tender in to land. There were several ships in the port and all of them just sat there for the day. Somehow DISNEY made arrangements to dock on the other side of the island where the waves were calm. But there were only TWO spots for "parking". We got off a little later then planned but DCL had us on land for the day. Again, busses were waiting for us and took us on about a 20 minute ride to get to the populated /tourist part of the island. We were told that we could get back to the ship by taking ANY shuttle or TAXI and tell them we were on DISNEY and the ride would be FREE back to the ship. Disney also had DCL CMs all over the town available for help and information. They were standing on many street corners. The preprinted maps and information we had about the area no longer matched where we were so real people were placed to guide us to what we wanted to do. Amazing service and attention to detail. And the other ship that also went to the other side of the island with us....they were there but had to find their own way to get to the tourist areas. I heard many of them saying it was nice they got on land but now what do they do and how?

When you travel, no company can control the weather and the traveler accepts the odds of an itinerary or activity change and that's just the way it goes. It's a risk you take and the company doesn't have to compensate you in any way---just make the best safety decision they can for the situation. BUT DISNEY takes care of you no matter what! THAT'S WHY DISNEY COSTS MORE. Extra service takes money. Maybe the extra is used on your cruise maybe it's used on someone else's.

Well that's part of my WHY I TRAVEL WITH THE MOUSE!

Back to the original poster---I hope you have Great Weather :wizard: on your cruise and you have a Wonderful or Magical time with your family!!

Yes, if it rains, you get wet. But don't believe what everyone is saying about them adding extra activities.

We just got off the Magic and it rained ALL day in Cozumel. We got off the ship, walked around and got soaked to the bone. But other than them adding a movie or two, nothing else was added. They only seem to add more activities on sea days.

They have a hard time adding activities since staff has days/time off etc (or so we were told). The best they can do is try to move activities indoors.

Well I was on the Magic just a few days ago with the storm and everything and it rained in Cozemel and my cataymarn snorkeling was canceled, it was also very very very windy during the whole trip I stood in the front of the boat one night and the wind was literally knocking me off my feet. But they tried to put a million activities inside and add alot more activites if there is rain. We couldn't do fireworks on pirate night because it was to windy that night to. :snooty:

You'll always be able to get a deck chair next to the pool! :goodvibes
Personally, I'd go to the Cove Cafe with a good book, and let the kids enjoy their programs. There are always things to do.. wine / beer tastings, galley tours movies and there is always retail therapy!!

its funny to watch when it starts to rain and the people that are swimming try to get out of the rain. your wet anyway people:rotfl2:
