What do you do if it rains on a Theme Park day of your trip?

I know most people put on their ponchos and continue going through the parks, but I just can't see doing that with toddlers in the midst. We will have 2 toddlers with us (ages 15months and 3 yrs old).

And I can't see doing rides in the rain with Toddlers. Especially if the temperatures drop and it starts getting cold. Teenageers yes...Toddlers no.

So what do you do? I mean if it is raining the morning you wake up on a Theme Park day, not if you are already in the parks.

Thanks :)

First I would check the weather report, If its an all day rain planned I would head for DTD and check it out.
If the water parks are an option I would not rule them out. Many peoplke avoid these areas when it rains but it is just as fun.

Our plan if it is storming is to stay in at the hotel and play. Of the trips we have been on, it really hasn't rained very much while we were in the parks. A storm or two at night, but that was it when it came to lightening. I think we have been in the park 3times when it rained and it passed very quickly. We have rain covers for our strollers and kept the kids dry. Sometimes we do a little DTD shopping if there is rain. OT:I like your name!

Last March it rained one of the days we were there and got cold....our DD's were a month old and 2 - we headed back to the resort...did some shopping there, went back to the room, ordered pizza and dessert and vegged out watching tv!

Being that it's FL, it doesn't normally get that much colder when it rains; it's still steamy. If you are there in winter, they will be dressed for cold, so it won't make much of a difference, except maybe adding mittens/hats.

Get yourself a good stroller cover and keep going. They will be perfectly high and dry under the bubble, and it is always comfortable inside the ride bldgs.
My kids loved riding around in a covered stroller when it rained; they thought the rat-a-tat noise of the rain hitting the hood was funny.

Obviously, you are not going to be doing Dumbo in an thunderstorm, but there are plenty of indoor things to do in most of the parks when it rains. (AK is something of an exception.)

Well, first of all, if it rains in Florida, you will probably be so hot you will welcome the opportunity for a cool down. The temps don't really drop with rain in the summer (it makes it muggier). So as long as there is no thunder/lightning, we pull out the water shoes and we let our two year old splash and cool down (He gets soaked over at the new Pooh Bear play place anyway at MK).
If it's a total down pour of hard rain, we'll head back to the resort. But you may find that our rain storms don't usually last very long down here most of the time so finding temp shelter might be best. The downside to that...the entire park is looking for a place to stand and keep dry, so it gets crowded no matter where you try to stand it seems and the kids and I both get crabby!

We usually just try to enjoy the chance to cool off, throw the cover over the stroller for the wee one and hope it doesn't last long! :sunny:

If it were me I would go for a stroller with a good rain cover and probably go to Epcot or something as there are lots of indoor things to do like Innoventions and Living Seas with Crush etc - I think I would pop back to the hotel for a rest though and then see how the weather goes in the afternoon! :thumbsup2

Good luck with what you decide! :)

I say put on a poncho, put rain covers on the strollers and KEEP GOING!!!! If it REALLY starts pouring and no sign of it stopping, I would probably go back to the hotel or go eat somewhere. But if it looks as if it will let up, I stay at the park and do indoor attractions. Plus, THE LINES ARE MUCH SHORTER!!!

If it looks like it will be an all-day rain, I'd go to Epcot rather than miss a day in the parks. At Epcot, once you get to a pavilion in Future World, you can stay in it for a good, long time, as there are several attractions in each one, and the Land even has a very nice food court. At the Land the strollers are parked under cover outside, so they don't even get wet.

The only place I'd skip in an all-day rain is AK.

Keep smiling, and let the kids splash in puddles and get generally messy. (You could bring dry clothes with you and put them in plastic in your stoller, or in a locker.) On our last trip, playing in puddles at MGM while waiting for the Power Rangers ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. Think of it as a "vertical swim."

Cheers! Hope you have fun!
