What do you do for a living?

I make do wardrobe and make costumes for theater and film. I have costume designed a few projects and also do fabric painting and dyeing. The best part is working with and getting to meet great new people all the time. I love being creative. Seeing the stuff I've created on stage is wonderful.

The downside is when I am working my family and friends are always saying and complaining that I am working too much, the hours are too long, and when I am not working they are always asking when is my next job?

I am currently a stay at home mom, and love it most of the time. There are very trying days and rewarding days, but more good than bad. :D

In my former life I was in advertising for the Walgreen Corporation. I loved the camaraderie with the co-workers, but disliked the fact that even though Walgreens is a HUGE company, nepotism was/is alive and well. You wouldn't believe how many Walgreen family and friends came out of the woodwork to find jobs every year. Usually jobs that should have gone to us non-Walgreen family employees. :(

During the school year I volunteer A LOT in my kids' classrooms, and one day a week I volunteer at a women's shelter in a nearby town. Keeps me VERY busy!

I work in the Health Information Management (fancy name for medical records) Department of a very small hospital.

I LOVE doing the transcription, feels great when I can anticipate what the doctor's going to say.

I don't like the filing I have to do when I'm caught up with transcription and trying to understand the foreign doctor who stutters. (He's the nicest guy, but SO hard to understand).

BTW: This is a cool thread.

(ohiominnie, you have the same job as my sister, except she homeschool's her three boys-- one of them's only two- as well as my daughter!!).

I get paid to drive my coworkers crazy.;)

What I love about my job: I'm very much appreciated and my coworkers are all very sweet to me.:)

What I hate about my job: Having to get out of bed in the mornings.;)

I'm a professor of English at a junior college.

I love interacting with my students and colleagues, particularly engaging in lively intellectual discussions.

I hate some of the administative nonsense and GRADING PAPERS.

I've been doing this for nearly ten years and the other day I tried to count the number of papers I had graded in that time:

5 papers per student, times 27 students per class, times 12 class sections a year, times 10 years = 16,100 essays!

I am a nanny and I have been with the same family for almost nine years. I love that I get to take my daughter to work with me. I love to see how my influence (and their parents influence, of course:D )has helped shaped these children into loving, caring people.

The part I don't like is that they are growing up and don't need me very much anymore:( . I will be looking for a new family this fall.

Anyone looking for a nanny in Michigan?:teeth:

I work for the Bank of New York Clearing Services as a Database Programmer/Analyst.

Of course, Bank of New York purchased our competitor so our entire staff is 'redundant' and the office will be closed in a few months. So we're just sitting around doing support for the clients that are still left while we are all waiting for the axe (of course, with the axe comes a decent severance).

So that's a bummer - sitting around with not a lot to do besides supporting current clients - but I really do love what I do. Not much I don't like about it....

I am an educational assistant at my childrens school district. I am currently in the middle school, but would like to move to the elementary school one day.

Likes: I'm off when my kids are off. I am unemployed in the summer, and that gives me time with my kids, and to study (I am an education major!)

Dislikes: The pay.. my pay is the lowest around. But my benefits package for a part time person is amazing, so it is a trade off. Another dislike is being told off by 13 year olds!

I am a music teacher at an elementary school that only has Kg, 1st, and 2nd grade. I love my job!!!!

The part I don't like is my 45 minute commute to and from work.

I love teaching this age group and I love having two months off in the summer to play. I just finished my masters degree- so now I don't have to take summer classes anymore!!!

Angie

Hmmm...a more pertinent question for me might be...what have I done for a living. LOL! I get antsy and change. The last job was my record at 8 years. I was introduced to the working world while in Cosmetology school...hated that job at McDonald's! Then on to being a hairdresser, worked in accounts receivable, back to school then worked as a secretary several years at several places...LOL! Had baby and took the first year off. ;) Then worked as a Credentialing Specialist at the hospital for 8 years. Left a year ago to go back to school. Hmmm...do I really want to be a teacher? I'm not so sure, but that's the direction I'm headed in.

:Pinkbounc You go Pin Wizard!!! That sounds great. I wish I was so determined to find out what I want to do. :Pinkbounc

My name is Michele:smooth: I 'm a stay at home mom. On top of all of that work I dabble in political essays and editorials. and I also Ebay and MaryKay (by the way - 2 great ways to make Disney $$$). I tutor my 2 DS 11:confused: and 4:jester: . I dislike people who think that I "can't get a real job" so I have to settle for direct marketing. I feel so bad that these people think that their way of earning money is better than mine. I always thought that if you do a good days work and make somebody happy in the process of making a buck, then you were a success. I would love to go back to school and finish my BS degree. Maybe that would help me feel complete. Sorry for the long, drawn out answer.....Bye Now

M:smooth:

Clinical Social Worker working on a Victim's Services team with trauma survivors-----and also the Mom of 5 beautiful DCherubs! Hey browneyes-saw you are a Social Worker as well, I did my undergrad. concentration in gerontology! I love working with elders!

Faith, trust, and pixie dust to all.....this is a neat thread, I have enjoyed seeing all of the different careers!

I am a cake decorator.
I used to be the bakery manager of our local Sam's Club, for about 7 years, but then dd came along, and the 50 hour work week just wasn't feasible. Soooo, one of my best bakery customers recruited me to come and work for him!!! I am now at a small family owned bakery, come and go as I please, and am great friends with the other decorator (who just happens to be my great customer's wife!) and we do stuff together all the time. So, the pay isn't as good, (not nearly) but the hours are great, I can bring my dd to work with me if I need to, and I've made some great friends! Money isn't everything lol!! Oh yeah, the other decorator is also a Disney fan!!! They will be in WDW for the 4th of July, I told her to wear lime green and say hi to everyone for me!!!

I am a stay-at-home Mom of two children, DD-almost 11; DS-almost 9. I homeschool them both and enjoy getting to watch their minds expand. Although there is no pay involved, I am rewarded everyday. Don't get me wrong, there are someday's that I say "can I have a break?" as it is an all day, everyday job.
:D

I am a SAHM to dd 5 and ds 2.I have been at home for 5.5 years. In my prior life I was a floral designer and I was the manager for the last shop I worked .Starting Aug I will be teaching the 2 yr old class at our church's preschool. It is 3 days a week and runs with our county's calendar. I will have ds in my my class.

I used to be a Claim Adjuster for a large, nationwide insurance company. After 14 years I was burned out. I am now an Account Manager and Claim Administrator for the largest insurance agency in our area. I love that I use the skills I learned over the years for something that makes me so happy now. It was not always so easy to be the person taking the heat from upset people who had just been in accidents, even when I was the one person who could actually help them.

I am a Utility Worker for Pennsylvania power light.

What that means is not alot I am a gofer!! Basically I help out where ever help is needed! I work in 2 powerplants ( 1 nucular 1 coal powered) right now I am at a company owned park ( open to the public) for the summer. It is a great place to work. I cut grass, clean tables ( and bathrooms:( ) and just do whatever needs to be done.

I like my job because the pay is good and i am not doing the same thing all the time! ( during a plant outage there are usually 6 or 7 female to 5 or 600 male) not that i am interested!!!

The bad part is that I am concidered part time so no benifits!!
