wait to book until a code comes out for the time you are planning to go?

We will be going in September, and I would like to go ahead and book the rooms....then hopefully I can have a discount code applied when they come out for September? I can do that, right? :::crossing fingers:::

If it were me I would book and then apply the code later if one comes out.

We used to book first at rack rate and hope for discount. Now, we don't book at all without discount. Even if it means not going at all.

I could understand that if we were going in June. But I am 99% certain there will be an ample discount for September. ;)

I booked September now. Hoping for that ample discount later. If it doesn't show up, there's still plenty of time to cancel without penalty.

I booked for September, too, on a 15% room only AAA discount that we were able to get by moving the start of our vacation one day out. My fear was that the resort view we wanted (CR, MK view) would sell out. My hope is to secure a more favorable rate as time goes on!

I finally gave up waiting on a code and booked. We're going on this trip no matter what. But I had hoped that with a code I'd be able to upgrade from a value to a mod. But no matter what we'll be happy at Pop.

It depends on your situation and your desire to stay at your pick hotel. We have went the last 3 yrs in september and have never had a problem getting the resort we wanted. We booked before free dinning came out because we knew that we were going no matter what type of rate or discount we got. However last yr other disers posted they had trouble getting the resort/room view they wanted when free dinning was offerd because there is a limitted of rooms set aside for that particular discount. With all that said we are going at the end of May with/without discounts and have not booked anything yet.Simply because we have been to disney several times now and don't really care which resort we stay at.We just sleep and shower there for the most part.

I'm planning an Oct. trip and am in no hurry to book. In 2006 I waited and got a decent code in Aug. for our then Oct. trip. I'm going to be patient, but if I can't afford what Disney is offering I am willing to look at other (off site) options. I won't go broke just to stay with them. Don't get me wrong, I love staying at the WDW resorts but.........I'll do what's right for me and that's BUDGET! :thumbsup2

To avoid major disappointment, I only book what I can afford. We have AAA, so we use that to start. We also have a Disney Visa, so when those discounts become available, we look to see if we can upgrade or extend our stay. Sometimes, AAA is as good as or better than the discounts that Disney offers.

We would be starting with a moderate booking for our December 2008 stay, if Corey's mom wasn't joining us. Being that she has a tighter budget, we are staying where she can afford. We might get lucky and be able to move to a moderate as the codes reveal themselves, but for now, I am content with what we have.

I feel the same way about booking what you can afford. In the past, we have taken standard view at the deluxes (all except AKL, where we went for a Savannah room), and were lucky enough to be upgraded to a better view each and every time. But we could have lived with that standard view. For our honeymoon, we went moderate because with all the other expenses, it was what we could afford with our AAA discount. Of course we hoped for a super-duper upgrade that would put us in the Grand Floridian, but when none came, we were just fine with CSR. I am the sort who would be heartbroken if I booked my heart's desire room based on needing a discount and then had to backpedal if no discount came through. That is why it has taken us so long to reserve that MK view at CR!:woohoo:
