What do you do? Accident in line

Hello all. Yesterday we stumbled upon a new problem. A man in an ECV was coming around a corner in a que and his vehicle tipped over. Aside from the obvious of calling 911, how do you alert the cast members that there is an issue in their line? (He got up what I assume was on his own, we stumbled upon it after he was already righted and standing and refusing medical help)

The ECV rider & his group could determine if emergency medical help was necessary, and a ride CM could call for assistance. I imagine he turned his ECV too tightly and gave the ECV too much forward power. I tipped my ECV on an incline + turn and suffered scrapes, bruises, and mostly humiliation. Gladly, strangers rushed to my side, helped me up, righted my ECV and assisted me while I checked myself over, checked the ECV and went on my way. Disney has first aid stations and qualified people to treat medical issues, and they come to the scene FAST. Thanks for your sincere concern.

As long as the person indicates they did not need medical attention and has no outward bleeding or obvious broken bones, I go about my day. If the person has visible injuries, but indicates they do not need medical help, I might not do anything immediately, but might mention it to the first CM I come across just in case they want to check on the person.

If the person was injured and needed medical help, but did not want 911 called I would go forward or backwards depending on which is closer to notify a cast member. If other guests in front of me have an issue, I would point out the injury and go around or start yelling for a CM and hope that someone in front of the group would let a CM know.

If 911 needs to be called immediate, then I would just wait for WDW personnel or emergency personnel to arrive.

To whom was he refusing medical help? Were paramedics already there or was it his family/friends? Either way, HE, the one who fell, didn't want help. I guess the same could be said about if someone was walking along and tripped, hit the pavement and came up with a bloody nose. Or, hit their head.

I don't want to make assumptions but just because a person is in a wheelchair doesn't mean they can't think for themselves.

It didn't sound like the OP was insinuating that the person she came across needed the help, or that she had planned to seek help for someone who stated they were OK. It seemed, to me, like she was asking "what if" a person WAS seriously injured in a long line...how would you alert a CM? One line I can think of, for example, is Splash Mountain. You could be within the ride building, and not have a CM nearby to inform if help is needed.

Assuming a hypothetical situation where a guest was obviously injured or had collapsed, and was in need of immediate medical assistance, I see nothing wrong with yelling something along the lines of "We need some medical help over here!". I'm sure the message would reach a CM PDQ.

if others were already assisting him and he was standing up i would keep moving.
if i witnessed it happen i'd start yelling that someone needs help and i'm sure the people behind me would start telling people behind them until it got back to a CM that someone may be hurt.
then i would assist the person in whatever way i could.

I think sometimes the shock and embarrassment after an accident can cause someone to deny help even if they need it--this happened to my dad once after he was hit by a car. (It wasn't serious, thank goodness.) As long as they are with family or someone else that is one thing, but if someone denies help and is alone I'd still let a CM know or see if I could talk to them for a little while to make sure that they don't seem confused or more seriously injured once the immediate shock and embarrassment wear off.

I never thought of it but now that we are getting older, this is a very good question. I think if my DH needed help, I'd ask another guest to please go find a CM.

I wouldn't automatically call 911 unless I knew the full scope of what was wrong with the person, and it was determined to be necessary. I saw an elderly lady trip on the railroad tracks at Disneyland once. She pulled her head up and it was obviously bleeding. Her family was with her, and two CMs came (seemingly out of nowhere) very quickly. We determined she was being taken care of so we left the area. We passed a CM racing in that direction with a wheelchair. Every place that deals with a large number of people has (or at least should have) detailed protocols for when people get sick or injured. Notifying a CM or having someone else run to notify one should be sufficient. They'll know who to call and will have the means to call them. If the person needs immediate care and you are qualified to provide it, certainly stay with them and help.
