We're going to be at vero next week and I promised my Dh I'd do the major cooking (I'll do anything for a 1 bedroom :D) And I'm blanking on what to cook. here's what I've come up with so far:

1. Make DH cook ribeyes on grills, trot them back to room. Nuke sweet potatoes and broccoli to go with.

2. Stouffer's family sized lasagna, texas toast, pre-made green salad.

3. Crock pot pulled pork. Pre-make and freeze pulled pork at home and bring frozen lump to vero and reheat slowly in crock pot.

That's it, and I have at least 1 more night that I should cook something...

Breakfasts are waffles (got my mickey waffler) bacon (in the microwave) and/or cereals, so that's set. Lunch-probably will be on the fly, wherever we're at.

Help! Any other ideas?

I do not do much cooking when we go to Disney, just toast and cereals for breakfast but last night at home I made awesome, quick stromboli.

I used the pillsbury pizza dough, spread it out and layered cheese, ham, pepperoni and sauteed peppers and onions. Rolled it up and baked it at 425 for about 20 minutes. Then served it with pizza sauce.

How about hamsteaks or buy a cooked chicken?

have fun!

When he fires up the grill for steaks you can always throw on burgers, chicken breasts, hot dogs and/or brats or Italian Sausage - I pre cook the last two and all that stuff will last you the whole trip.

I've also made tacos - buy a package of hard and soft shells and have the hard shells for dinner and the soft shells another day later at the pool. Rotissire chickens can be used many ways also.

Go to Jong's for fresh fruits and veggies - blts are good with micro bacon and don't miss out on the o.j. at Hales they are open again after being closed a year yippee.

Here is my dinner list in the villa....baked chicken breasts, steak subs/fries, chickent strips and salad, spaghetti, breakfasts in the morning. My villa kitchen will get plenty of use( I have 3 grown boys coming.....don't ask me what my food bill is!! :scared1: )

I've brought frozen spaghetti sauce with meatballs and made a salad. I make extra meatballs for meatball subs for later in the week. I like to make anything that I can get at least two meals out of.

My favorite is breakfast out on the balcony at OKW. Eggs, sausage and biscuits--yum!

How about chili. Make ahead and bring along another frozen lump. I'm big on bringing the frozen lump of chili to various places.

We use the kitchen mainly for breakfast. Our daughter is 4, and if we get a good breakfast (eggs, waffles, bacon, toast etc..) in her - it really makes for a good morning at the parks. She is usually up at 7:00, so we eat together, and still can make the early magic hours (if available), and if not - we are certainly there at 9:00.

It gives us a great start to the day, and saves a few bucks. I usually pick up a frozen pizza or two, and some mac and cheese. That is about all we really have cooked - but seems well worth it!

I make coffee. General Mills makes the Cheerios.

When I'm on vacation, I'm on vacation.

DisFlan

Coffee.
And once in a great while we'll pop one of those frozen Jimmy Dean sausage sandwiches in the microwave for breakfast.

Being the well documented culinary epicuean that you are - all I can say is: :scared1:

:lmao:

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Since we won't be anywhere near a park, my dining out options all include getting in the car, and since we'll be tired of driving, I figured that cooking in the room is a good trade off for more driving!

I'll be heading over to costco today, they have a lot of pre-made frozen stuff. Our plan is to drive down with the cooler full of frozen things, and drive back with the cooler full of fish/sand dollars/sand/creepy crawlies for our marine aquarium. :scared1:

I think I'm going to try making that stromboli for dinner tonight-it it meets with approval we'll make that down there, too.

Good idea about grilling a bunch of stuff at once-I have bratwurst frozen in the freezer as we speak-I'll throw that in too...

Any more ideas? What's your favorite thing from Costco that you like to bring???

You can't go wrong with Costco. Everything they have is yummy. I like the frozen lasagna.

I am glad that you are trying the stromboli...it really is good and easy.

Some of the things that we like from Costco are the spinach ravioli, popcorn shrimp, the manicotti and shells are good too...the ones that you add the sauce.

I made a really quick bolognese sauce last night that was good...just used some ground beef that I had already cooked and frozen (this may be an idea for you...you can use the meat a number of ways), added a couple cups of wine, a jar of sauce, spices and finished it with a touch of cream. It was yummy. You can't go wrong with pasta...

Another thing I do is freeze chicken breast and pork chops in a marinade in a zip loc...I freeze them on a cookie sheet so they are flat and easy to store. This might be another idea. And you can cook them on the grill, stovetop or oven...

Remember, DVC is your "home away from home."

As such, we cook like we do at home: Breakfast and Dinner.

We shop at Winn-Dixie or Publix for what we need and cook like we normally do--either in the villa or on one of the grills by a quiet pool.

I love Costco! They had some really great all natural turkey meatballs. Kids love the chocolate chip cookies.

Also saved me about $100 bucks on a car rental with Alamo too!

We just do breakfast in the villa, cereal, fruit, yogurt and most importantly decent tasting coffee! :rotfl:

We're not big eaters at breakfast.

This is our 1st trip home and I am just planning to do breakfast in our rooms before our park days, and luckily my husband is the breakfast cook!!!;) ;)

We just mainly use the kitchen for a quick breakfast in the morning and quick snacks late at night. The most we've ever cooked there are those breakfast cinnamon rolls, pancakes, toaster waffles for the girls, toast, and toasted english muffins for breakfast. We also bring individual cereal packs, milk, juices, and other cold drinks. In the evening we may use the microwave for popcorn.

I can't remember ever having lunch or dinner there. I don't want to cook on vacation!

I do all but I dinner's cooking in the villas. Our meal plans include buying a roasted chicken the first day and then I make broth from the carcass. I use the broth to make a soup with a lot of the leftover veggies, chicken etc towards the end of the trip (it works really well).

Tacos
Spaghetti, meatballs, salad
pork chops, rice, veggies
stir fry with either pork, steak or chicken leftovers
vegetable frittata
homemade chicken fingers and fries

The kids are in the pool, and I make dinner. Works well for us, plus I get a little bit of my "own" down time.
