A co-worker was dealing with a voice mail system and the option needed was to "push pound".
Co-worker had no idea what the "pound" sign was.
Someone pointed to the bottom right of the phone keyoad and co-worker said "that's a hash tag sign, not a pound sign".
It also occurs to me that the key on bottom left of the phone keypad is known by some as the "star" key and as an "asterisk" to others.

It doesn't surprise me that a younger person wouldn't know what the pound sign is. Then again, I don't tweet but am aware of what hashtag means.
