What do you buy your parents for Christmas?

My parents like going out to eat, so we do gift cards to their favorite restaurants.

My dad actually mentioned something at Thanksgiving that we wanted -Hallelujah!! Most random thing, he wants some DVDs of old episodes of Hee Haw! Easy enough thanks to Amazon.

My Mom is 86,non ambulatory but lives alone in a accessible apartment very small - I will get her a calendar ,earrings, a new shirt, some candy and an amaryllis plant. She is our only parent left- of course we are in our mid 60s.
DFiL was not diabetic or over weight so we filled a gift bag with sweet and savory treats that he would not buy himself. A grocery store gift card would have been perfect but he would have been insulted that we thought he could not afford groceries

View attachment 286110 My parents are both in their 90's and having been getting rid of stuff for years so I hate burdening them with more things. However, this year was different- I think I found the perfect gift! My dad started falling outside and my mom forbid my dad to plant his garden. It was so sad! So I bought them a countertop hydroponic garden and they got it this week. My mom was super excited!! A six-pod garden is on sale at Target for $99. I got them lettuce and tomato pods to plant. I am hoping they will have a tomato by Christmas!
I know it's a busy time of year but will you come back later and let us know how this worked out? I'm facinated.

I've been looking at these on Amazon for a while now and just haven't pulled the plug to purchase. I think I may buy it now and hope for the best.

I wish I knew what to get my mom. She's in her early 80s and still somewhat active. We used to do dinner/broadway shows when my dad was still alive. She has more money than all us kids combined and gets whatever she wants when she wants. She always says she wants to get rid of stuff and doesn't need/or want anything. She is always generous with all us kids/grandkids/greatgrandkids that I just can't not get anything. I was so happy last year when she said she wanted a small handheld vacuum. Well it didn't work so she had to send it back (I'm out of state and don't live near her) and had to do that three times - she kept getting ones that were not working (even had other people look and they either didn't work or came missing some attachments). So technically I still owe her a gift from last year too.

My parents are hard to. They have everything they need. I don’t want to get them stuff just to get them stuff.

We make them a calendar every year on Shutterfly with pics of grandkids. It’s the one thing they ask for every year. A wall one for the house and a desk one for my dad’s office.

For my mom I try to get some
Knick knacks she’ll like and gift cards to restaurants she likes. From the grandkids we usually get experiences they can enjoy together, like live theater, concerts, or a movie gift card.

Is there a local gourmet grocery store you could get a gift card so he can get fancy treats? I sometimes get my mom a gift card to Sprouts or a Whole Foods so she can treat herself.

My parents have everything they need and can buy whatever they want, so instead of gifts for them (they'll each get a stocking), we're adopting a senior couple from our local food bank :). They'll get a full dinner, treats and a few gifts to enjoy.

I was super surprised at how many "senior" men and women were on the list to be adopted for the holidays! I think when my folks are gone, maybe we'll adopt a senior couple for the holidays.

I do practical, and pretty much the same thing every year- 6 months worth of K-cups and a Kindle GC.
For dh's parents I have run out of ideas, and dh is no help. There are some nice ideas on this thread though.

My family does a gift exchange, so I don't generally get my folks a gift every year. This year I got BIL and was so excited. I ferment as a hobby, and he wants to get into it. So I bought him vegetable fermenting stuff, and we can share tips on pickle making next summer!

I guess if we didn't have the gift exchange, I'd look at consumable gifts or experiences, as my parents are well off and buy whatever they need.

Still clueless as to what to get the Mother this year and time is running out:(.

We're splurging this year and surprising my parents with a European cruise that we'll all go on together in the spring. My parents didn't have a lot when we were growing up, but they always found a way to give me and my siblings a little spending money, etc. I cringe now when I think back to all those weekends I demanded $20 so I could go to a nice restaurant with my teenage friends, while my parents sat at home and ate hot dogs or sandwiches. My DH and I have done well financially, and it's an absolute joy for me to know I can make my mom's dream of seeing Paris come true!

I'm getting my parents, this with their grandkid's picture https://www.yankeecandle.com/candleConfigurator/cchomepage.jsp. Then I think I will get them a gift card to a hotel in Atlantic City since they like to go there.

My father in law lives alone and doesn't like most things you get him. It's also his birthday so I need 2 gifts. I was thinking maybe Harry and David Pears. It would be great to send him an actual meal or 2. Does anyone know a good company that might ship a meal? Harry and David and Williams & Sonoma seem to ship Pot Pies. That is all I found so far.
