We scheduled a grocery stop for our upcoming vacation. We plan on eating out for allof our meals. But we do need things like beer (hey I'm a Jersey girl) , single serve Parmalat milk boxes for DD1 and maybe some juice boxes.

So what do you get at the grocery store? Anything I should be buying to make my family vacation run smoother?
Thanks
callie

Pretzels to go with the beer, soda, bottled water, strofoam cooler to keep the beer cold, snacks for DD, chips to go with your beer and maybe some wine.

styrofoam cooler, fresh fruit (grapes, bananas, apples...not a lot), chips & salsa, milk, beer, diet coke, water, and diapers.

I think we'll be getting the good ole juice boxes, goldfish crackers, bottled water, and a bottle (or 2) of wine. Reminds me that I must make a better list before we go...

We stopped and bought beer, soda, water bottles and chips! I would recommend a styrofoam cooler also as we forgot this and used the sink filled with ice for the beer and soda but it didn't work very well. Next month when we stay offsite, we will stock up on a lot more snacks and breakfast items.

We buy Diet Pepsi, pretzel's, bagel's for breakfast, and wine for unwinding at the end of a long day!:bounce:

Like others...bottled water (2 cases), milk (soy for DS), juice boxes, fresh fruit (since I'm pregnant and fresh fruit gives me just the righ amount of energy for a morning/afternoon snack), pretzels, & maybe some trail mix.

Also, half-n-half for DH's morning coffee, which he can't live without.

I'm packing a selection of sugar candy (Pez, Smarties & Tootsie Pops). Also, packing diapers (get a good price buying them bulk), swim diapers, diaper wipes, insulated sippy cups, DH's coffee, travel mug (for the afformentioned coffee). A bit of a pain to pack all of these things, but at least I know I have them, no matter what. And we'll have plenty of room in the luggage for souvenirs. :-)

This will be our first time w/o a car. Our grocery stop will include: milk, cereal, CapriSuns (less spills than the juice boxes), yogurt, a small amount of fruit and that's about it.

From home I'm bringing: Disney fruit snacks, pez, mini-m&m's (4 for $1), Mickey cookies, muffin bars, breadsticks & cheese, a few packs of microwave popcorn and some asst'd candies I've bought on sale.

DM wanted to buy soft drinks, but with the refillable mugs why bother? We got britta refillable water bottles, so that eliminates buying water.

Trying not to over-pack (though it doesn't appear that way) because I think we'll want drinks/snacks in the parks. You always seem so full at WDW.

If we drive down, we pack our non-perishables and just hit the grocery store for a gallon of milk, carton of OJ and fresh baked goods - danish, muffins, bagels, etc.

If we fly down, we buy all that plus food we don't have room to pack - pop-tarts, granola bars, breakfast cereal, coffee, etc.

If we are in a rental home, we also pack or buy (depending on space) trash bags, dish detergent, laundry detergent, extra tissues, toilet paper, paper towels.

"My" Gum! ;) Usually we hit WalMart before we leave on a trip to pick up last minute snacks, mints, gum.... And usually I forget to get gum for myself.

We are DVC members, so we have a kitchen in our unit. That changes things a little - as we have a fridge, microwave, coffemaker, and even an oven if I were the ambitious type.

We break it into four categories:

Breakfast

Good Coffee
Half and Half
Sugar
Orange Juice
Pop Tarts
Milk
Cereal
Peanut Butter
Jam
Bread

Take into parks

Bottled Water (but only a bottle a day per adult - I'm not a pack horse and will buy the second and third bottle at park prices rather than hauling it)
Granola Bars
Capri Sun
Fruit Snacks

Snacking at night

Pop
Chips
Microwave Popcorn
Quik (my kids drink cocoa before bed)
More Milk

Misc:

Overnight diapers (both my kids are not nighttime trained)
Sippy cups (we buy sippy cups new and toss them at the end of vacation)

Be realistic about what you are willing to drag into the parks (I know some people are willing to carry a lot more than I am). We always are a lot less hungry both in the parks and back at the hotel than I think we will be.

crisi Why don't you buy the disposable sippy cups? They are wonderful and cheaper, plus you get a lot more. They are reusable but never feel bad about losing them or getting rid of them whenever you please. I'm planning on buying some of these for my kids milk in the evenings.

Bringing dish soap has always been a problem for me. I just found Palmolive dish wipes...a plastic container full of wipes that will wash a load of dishes. This should suffice nicely for washing out the britta bottles and refillable mugs!

What disposable sippy cups? Please share.
callie

I think she means that she buys new regular sippy cups and just tosses those before coming home. That way she doesn't have to repack them. I buy 3 new ones before each trip but wash them while we are there and bring them home.

Well forget what I said! Learn something new every day! LOL!!

callie At "Babies R Us" they have disposable sippy cups. They are made by The First Years and come in 2 different sizes (10 oz and smaller?). You usually get 4 to 6 in a pack. They are even dishwasher safe if you chose to reuse them. I usually buy 2 packs before I go and get rid of all of them by the end of the week. It really is quite cheap and convenient, IMO.

We use the disposables for company, but they don't work well for orange juice and my kids don't like them - if pressed, they will drink water or apple juice from them, but not orange juice, milk or cocoa. They are used to the gerber cups.

The first step ones are cool though, if your kids aren't as picky and you aren't serving pulpy juice.

This may sound really stupid but... what is a grocery stop? I'm staying on site for the first time and think it would be a wonderful thing if I could get groceries while there. Also...are ther ice machines at asmo??
