What do you all think...concerning the shootings

Obviously some of JOhn-Cole's teachers discussed this with the students today and when J.C. got home he is afraid to go outside. I don't mind him staying inside for any reason but I also see the disappointment in his face that he is scared to go outside and play basketball or ride his scooter. We live on a very quiet cul-de-sac....not that it matters if someone is crazy and wants to pull a copy cat crime. I just am at a loss. I feel so bad for him because he loves being outside and of course he can't play basketball or ride the scooter in the fenced in backyard. I want to reassure him thats its okay to go outside but in all honesty you simply never know and with the child being shot this morning and the second shooting I read about I just don't know.

Parents help! I am at a loss and feel awful for him.

He might also be a little intimidated with moving to a new home. He'll work through it, give him lots of hugs.

I haven't let my kids play outside since this whole thing began. :(

I've always talked to mine in adult terms, especially my oldest who is one of those kids who is 7 going on 47. I just told him that until such a time where I felt he was safe, he had to stay inside. He seemed to accept it for the most part, although he has lots of questions, which I try to answer as directly as possible. I also should add that since my husband has a rather precarious position with the Secret Service, my kids have always been a little more informed that most kids their age. They know bad exists in this world, sad to say.

Its so sad our kids have to go through this. Hugs to you and John-Cole, Beauty.

I mentioned this on another thread, but it bears repeating.

I live in Montgomery County and have been nervous since this all started. The Leisure World shooting was about 1/2 mile from my home, and one of the other shootings (the cabbie at the gas station) was about 1/2 - 3/4 mile away in the other direction. My son's school is central to this area.

Montgomery County announced yesterday that they would be returning to a normal schedule, including outside recess today. We could, however, request that our child be kept inside. I asked my 8 year old what he wanted to do, and he said, "we can't worry about what might happen." He wanted to play outside, and I realized that he needed to regain a sense of normalcy.

Encourage your son to live his life as usual. That's the best thing we can do for our kids.

As frightened as I am that this person could shoot again at any time, any where, we have to keep on living.

DH is out mowing the grass, and my two boys are outside playing with their friends. Other neighbors are outside tending to their gardens, several people just jogged by my house.

I just pray that this person or persons is caught very soon.

This whole thing is so sad and so sick. My heart goes out to all of you dealing with this directly...Virginia is just a stone's throw from you and I am nervous too! I have no advice...have no idea what I would do about school, outdoor activities etc. You just have to do what gives your heart and those of your children the most peace. They will catch this person...I am praying for sooner,not later. When they do it's time to "hang 'em high"!!! Publically and painfully to hopefully give the next "nut" something to think about!!! {{hugs to all of you}}}
