What do use to identify your rental EVC from other's when CM'S Move it?🤔

I'll be renting a scooter for my upcoming trip in May due to a newly replaced knee. I hear that occasionally the CM'S will move your scooter from one place to another while you're on a ride or at a restaurant.

How or what do you put on your scooter to help it stand out as yours? The company that I am renting from has their company name on the scooter, but does not have the customer's name on it. So I am looking for ideas of what I can use so that will make it stand out for me. 😁

Thanks...this scooter is totally new for me and I'm trying to make it as effortless as possible!! Needless to say I'm a bit nervous! 😉

One of the things it’s nice to bring with you is a towel to lay on the seat to keep the sun off. I use an old, brightly colored hand towel from home. It’s easy to pack and stands out from all the white towels people grab from their hotel room when heading out for the day. You can also make a sign of some sort at home to bring with you and attach to the ECV. I used one of those three ring binder plastic sheet protectors and then ran ribbon through the holes to tie it to the ECV. I didn’t want to fasten it with anything that could damage the ECV.

People are going to tell you to put a ribbon or nameplate.

Scooters have a front basket. Put something that's easy to spot but isn't worth stealing. Sweatshirt, half eaten bag of chips.

Put an airtag on the scooter

It is rare for Disney to move scooters except when they move them (in neutral - you keep the key) when you board an attraction. All scooters are numbered so we used the number printed on the scooter by the rental company, to locate it.

Were there last week DH had a scooter. Depended which ride he rode. CM's would either tell him to take or leave key in scooter. When he left key in scooter, it was moved into a room and the door was closed.

What? I'm going to rent a scooter probably for May trip. First time, Scared actually. Aside from killing someone, I'm very worried about a) where the scooter needs to go when on a ride or I stop for some reason (washroom, etc) and shocked when you said moved to a room and door closed!!! What? b) also I heard you can't charge it in the hallway of resort and yet every single DVC I've stayed at (many, even recently), the scooter is in the hallway. IF I'm by myself, how could I even maneuver a scooter into, say, a BWV DVC studio by myself? How do you move it and hold the door at same time?

I am such a totally scared novice and finding it hard to sleep just thinking about using a scooter. I know I'm not attempting busses and probably skyliner/monorail and try to bus it if don't have to stand long.
Will Uber/Lyft most likely.

I'm sorry I hijacked the thread. But I was glad to hear suggestions about how to differentiate your scooter when parked.

I tie a (usually pink) bandana around the handle. One unforeseen advantage I found was that, since I'm usually solo, I occasionally have CMs offer to bring my scooter over to me. It's nice to be able to say "mine's over there with the bandana on it." Another advantage is that I tie the bandana to my luggage on the trip down. It makes it easier to identify on the baggage carousel. After the 7-8 trips with that bandana, I haven't had it disappear yet!

What DH and I do to get the scooter into the room is unlock the door, then use the front of the scooter to push it open, takes a little practice, but for most it is doable, just be careful not to damage the door, you just gently push the door while moving forward. Alternatively there are wedges that can be used to hold the door open. I have also seen some reports of some accessible rooms adding door openers, DH and I haven't actually seen any in person though, so takle that with a grain of salt. You can also kindly ask anyone nearby if they would hold the door open for you. But you definitely should NOT leave them in the hallways, too many issues from fire risks to the risk of someone messing with it.

The transportation is actually very easy, especially the skyliner and monorail and most of the CMs are very helpful with that.

I have never seen scooters moved to a room with a closed door and neither has DH, but wondering if it is something new to reduce potential issues. But I would say never leave the key to the scooter, the CMs can push it in neutral if necessary.

When you need to use the bathroom, you can use the accessible stalls (a scooter fits into most), leave it outside the stalls or outside the restroom, if you leave it, again always take the key with you. Most rides you will be able to take the scooter pretty much all the way up to the ride vehicle or really close and they will have it just as close when you get off. Some you can stay on the scooter if you so chose.

Thank you so much for replying. I appreciate it more than you know. I'm going to print out your reply. I feel so dumb as I see SO many visitors on them and yet I'm afraid. I blame my age but I'm very capable at everything else. This is throwing me for a loop and it makes no sense. Thanks again.

Don’t worry. Using the scooter is very easy. I got the hang of it in less than 5 min. And I was just as stressed out about it as you are. There are videos on youtube of people navigating their scooters on the buses, monorail and the skyliner. Watching those helped me not to worry so I knew what was in store. At the attractions, the CM’s are very helpful and will let you know exactly what to do to access the ride and my scooter was never put in a closed door, it was always ready for me when I got off the ride. CM’s will be very clear about everything, I never felt like I didn’t know what I was supposed to do and I worry about things like that too but it was very smooth and easy.

2 words - DOLLAR TREE! Get some cheapo battery lights or flower or toy or whatever from the Dollar Tree (or like store) and decorate the basket using twist ties. I own my own and change out decor for the season. And trust me, ECVs - especially 3wheel ones - are incredibly nimble and easy to drive…and fun too!

I'm using a scooter for the first time also. Your post sounded like my first one!!! We'll be fine!!!🙏😁

Occassionally a CM will ask for the key. I always comply. I never just leave the key in the scooter.

I travel to Disney solo several times a year and use a scooter when I’m there. Entering a room alone is as easy as you make it. I never hold the door and move the scooter at the same time! Go to the Amazon website and search “door stopper”… everyone has their favorite lol. I keep one in the room and one in the basket of my scooter. Easy peasy, problem solved. Washroom? Park it outside where it isn’t in anyone’s way and take the key. Attractions? Listen to the CM and follow their directions.

Using a scooter can seem intimidating at first. But once you get the hang of it and some experience, I guarantee you will feel liberated and free… so relax and breathe! You will have a great time. :flower:

I understand your fear. The first time I used a scooter, I was solo and using a scooter was unplanned-until my back said "that's it for us!" Anyways, other scooter users cn be so helpful to first time users and questions. Things weren't bad until I needed the restroom-like you, I had no idea what to do with my scooter. Finally I asked some random scooter users I saw-they were so helpful. It's happened several times, when I've had questions, and other scooter users have always been nice, understanding, and answered my questions.
For going in rooms solo, I face that all the time. Often there's someone else passing in the hall who offers to hold the door open for me. If not, I crack the door open, then get back on my scooter and go r-e-a-l slow (turtles are your friend) creeping through the door while pushing it open wider. Once I'm in and clear, I let go of the door, but then try to grab it so it doesn't slam shut. Once I got my heavenly reward and had a push-button automatic door. Wish they had them on all doors.

Sorry for the confusion. It was on Soarin that the scooter was taken to a room and the door was closed to relocate it so it was available when he got off the ride. Disney Magic!

The couple who we were next to on Soarin’ just told the cm that they needed the wheelchair to be brought to them ar the end of the ride. They definitely have to move the scooters out of the theater for safety reasons but I’m sure if he let them know he couldn’t ambulate to the scooter they would’ve brought it to him.

Also of note—ar the end of GotG, my mom’s scooter was not parked next to the elevator. We let the cm know and they opened a door and brought it too her.

Uber and Lyft require disassembling your scooter so it will fit in the trunk. Use an accessible Minnie Van or an accessible Mears taxi if you want on demand transportation.

Bus drivers are not required to help you. I haven't seen or read about a single time where the driver wasn't willing to do everything.

Wedge It door stopper is the way to go. Get it on Amazon or the mfg site. Bellhops ask me where to buy it.

You need to know, and communicate, how much walking you can do. Can you park your scooter outside a restaurant and walk to your table? Do you need to take your scooter to the table and trsnsfer? Do you need to stay in your scooter while you dined?

Pirates is the worse ride for scooters. You need to transfer to a wheelchair for the entire queue
