What do stores do with magazines?

Does anyone know what grocery and convenience stores do with outdated magazines at the end of the month when the new ones come out?

I teach and want to do a project with cutting from old magazines. I have some, but most are not appropriate for young children (think Glamour).

I believe they send them back to the distributor. You may want to ask at a neighborhood magazine stand or local store.

When I worked at BlockBuster, our unsold magazines had the covers torn off and sent back to the company and were then thrown out. I always brought home coverless video game mags to my DS's.

Ask some of the local businesses if you can have them or whatever. There are tons of mags that are age appropriate or just plain people friendly like pet lover mags. The reason I said ask is that we asked some of the local businesses here for outdated mags or unpopular ones to mail to my husband's unit in Iraq. We got thousands of odd ones and old ones and even some new but not really. Never hurts to just ask....

at our local grocery store where i work i know they send how many they sell and if they have tons left over they get sent back to the distributor if we have just a few we discount them and then throw them away if they do not sell. go to your local library and see if they will donate really old magazines that nobody checks out anymore. ours sometimes donates old kids' magazines if they are for educational purposes

Check with your neighbors to see what they do with their old magazines. I know that I throw mine away.
