I know there's a lot of packing lists, and what to put in park bag lists, but I've never seen a carry-on list.
What size bag do most of you use for a carry-on? I'm planning on purchasing the Vera Bradley restyled baby bag in cupcakes pink for my carry-on! My mother thinks i'm nuts, but I think it looks like a great weekend bag! I travel frequently for one weekend at a time, so I think I'll get great use out of it. (I've used my VB large duffle before, but it's just too big as a weekend bag)
In the bag, I plan to put in my park bag, all packed (we plan to go to the parks right after we arrive and I don't want to wait for our bags to get to our room); boarding passes (obv!), cash/CC/id's, deck of cards, iPod, notepad, a couple of magazines....what else could I need?? It's just me and DBF, so I don't have to worry about kids (that we don't have haha!).
What else do you guys think I might want?

Now that my kids are old enough (for a few years, thank goodness!) to be pulling their own luggage, we only bring carry-ons when we travel (and we travel a lot!).

At WDW (and everywhere else) I do laundry. I don't even own enough clothes for us to go a whole week and not. We go through a lot at the theme parks - one outfit in the morning, and then if we take a break and swim or relax, sometimes need a new outfit later.

That being said, I bring enough for 3 or so days, plus extra undies, and some snacks. I also bring a backpack each - for park essentials.

If you do that, you can drop off the larger carry-on at bell services at your resort to hold, then take off to the parks.

I don't like checking bags anymore; it's just me. Now, I also took ME once and never again. Once again, it's just me. We waited so long in the lines (it wasn't even a busy time of the year). I would rather take a towncar (I like Quicksilv*er). It's an extra $50 or so each way, but very convenient. Then we stop at a Super Target or somewhere for toiletries, wine, snacks, etc... Or, I rent a car from Alamo or National for a day, pick it up at the airport, and return it at the Dolphin. I really disliked ME. I mean really.

Oh, I also pick up things like a small bottle of laundry soap (I pack dryer sheets).

I prefer a backpack at the parks, too. But when it was just me and my DH, I only had a small purse. You don't need much until you have kids - just wait!!!!!!!!!!!! Then the list is long (change of clothes, snack, diapers, oh my...)

Happy planning!

I pack:

1. 2 magazines
2. 1 book
3. portable dvd player and 3 movies
4. light jacket
5. snacks - only what will fit in a qt. sized ziploc bag :cutie:
6. 2 pens
7. qt sized zip loc bag containing contacts and solution, lip balm, DS's prescription meds, hand lotion
8. travel brush and hair clips
9. sunglasses :3dglasses and prescription glasses
10. travel wallet with cash, traveler's checks, id, boarding passes, WDW tickets and credit cards

My personal item is my camera bag which will hold the camcorder, digital camera, extra batteries and travel charger and SD cards, USB cord, and my tiny MP3 player.

DS will have his own carry-on for his books, pencils, mp3 player, snacks and jacket.

DH brings his laptop and a backpack for his books and music and maybe an extra shirt and undies for DS.

My carry-on always weighs more than I think it will. I usually try to eat all the snacks  and leave the mags on the plane so my bag is lighter by the time I land.

:hippie:

Oh, and this trip, I'll be hiding a goodie bag for DS in my carry-on too. Will bust that out during the flight!

Anything valuable (jewelry, camera, etc.)

Prescription meds (very important!). My cousin visited me two years ago, and had packed her prescription meds in her checked bag (which was lost). I had to take her to a 24-hour Walgreens at 11:30 at night to pick up an emergency supply of her prescription. What was she thinking?

I may be paranoid, but I always try to carry on the "bare essentials" of what I'd need the first 24 hours of my trip. Depending on where I'm going, that might include: cosmetics, change of clothes, swimsuit, etc. Anything that would be hard to buy at a hotel gift shop if my luggage is delayed.

I've had three bags that were temporarily "lost" over my lifetime, and it's such a hassle not to have the stuff you need until the bag is delivered to you. The first time this happened, all I carried on was my purse and a book, and I had to buy literally everything for my 36-hour trip (clothes, swimsuit, toiletries, etc.). What an incredible hassle - my bag wasn't delivered to me until shortly before my flight home! Never again.

In my carryon:

1. Prescription meds
2. Netbook & power cord
3. Camera, cards, battery & charger
4. Phone charger
5. Book
6. Travel documents

I have an owner's locker, so I don't have to take toiletries or cosmetics at all. I can easily do a 3-4 night trip with no checked luggage at all just by adding something to sleep in and a couple of charges of clothes. I don't know the exact size of my carry-on, but it easily fits under the seat. If I'm not taking the computer, I use a small nylon backpack in lieu of the regular carry-on.

Just want to say snacks don't have to fit in the one quart bag. Only if they are liquids weighing 3 oz or less.
Remember you are only allowed 1 of the one quarter size zip lock bags per person for all the liquid items. And each itme must weight 3oz or less.

My carry on is usually a large backpack. I put in it an extra set of clothes, extra underwear and socks, extra shoes, camera and batteries, hair dryer, curling iron, pj's, robe, puzzle book, handheld fan, sunglasses, snacks, printouts of all reservations(hotel and ADR's) including airline schedule, ipod, phone, meds, and sometimes laptop.

In my carry-on is...

The clothes I plan on wearing the next day, pajamas for one night, and my swimsuit. (From experience, if your checked bag is "misplaced", it usually takes them 23 hours, out of the 24 you have until they start to pay you for the inconvienience, to get your bag to you. :rolleyes1)
Makeup
Curling Iron
Hairbrush
Comb
The book I am reading
My iPod
Camera
Travel Documents
Chargers for EVERYTHING

I never pack snacks... "snacks" are usually whatever we have for breakfast/lunch/dinner at the airport.

In my hand luggage for a 10hour flight from UK:

books (usually 2)
Nintendo DS
Ipod
Camera
Prescription meds (never put in hold luggage!)
Purse
Hairbrush
Spare hairclips and bobbles
Sunglasses (we don't have sun in the UK and I want them on as soon as we get there!)
Sweets (candy but not chocolate)
Sunscreen SPF 50 (I will burn even through a bus window :rotfl:)
Jacket
Mobile

DH carries

book
all holiday and travel documents and passports etc (I am not allowed to look after these for fear I lose them)
Newspaper
Mobile

We also have the laptop as our personal item and all chargers and adaptors go in there too.

I do have kids, but my DD5 will have a carry-on for their stuff.

Here is my list:
1 magazine (as if I will have time to read:rotfl:)
extra change of clothes
bathing suit
DD3's medicine
3oz liquids (shampoo, sunscreen, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush too)
brush and hair ties
wet ones wipes
all travel documents

GREAT THREAD IDEA!!!!

For us, it all depends on where we're going...

For example, this upcoming trip we're going to Miami, instead of Disney... and we're ONLY bringing carryons... I'll put our list for that at the bottom if anyone is interested.

As far as DIS trips though, here's what I bring... KEEP IN MIND, MY CARRYON IS MY DISNEY PARK BAG

ME
Pills (MOST IMPORTANT!!)- Bonine, Immodium, Tylenol, Tums, Tea Bags (Black Tea, for bug bites), Advil, ProBiotics, Vitamins

Other First Aid- Bandaids (LOTS!), kleenex

Ipod

Camera, Flip Video Camera

Extra Batteries- both cameras take AA so lots of those!!!

Tickets in their own special wallet

Wallet- liscense, 2 credit cards, insurance cards, money, Starbucks gift card to get water and tea at the airport

Touring Plans, index cards with reservation numbers, flight information, etc.

Magazine

Snacks- Larabars, Organic Z Bars, bread in baggies (depending on time of day- if we need a meal), fruit (like apples, bananas)

Baggie of liquids- Purell, travel packs of PB and J (the meal thing, see above)?, eyedrops, travel toiletries (If using DME and can't get to my bag for a while), suntan lotion, contacts case and solution

Notebook, pencil

sunglasses, regular glasses case

Change of clothes (again, if using DME)

cellphone

DH brings the laptop, his mp3 player, wallet, cell, and a magazine or sheet music to look at
------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, if I'm just taking a carryon on a trip, I take the same as the above carryon, and then a roller suitcase carryon with more clothes, curling iron, extra shoes, mini umbrella.

Yeah, I take a lot, but it's a lot of a little, and I have a good organizer bag that keeps everything together. If we don't take DME I don't bring as much in my carryon because I know I'll have access to my luggage (Ha, God willing!) once I get off the plane.

My kids are also old enough now to bring a carryon - so I make everyone pack at least 3 changes of clothes and their bathing suits in their own carry on bag. I'm always worried that our check bag will be lost :scared1:(although it never has been).

I also bring all my documents, camera supplies, snack for the kids to eat on the plan and magazines to read.

We plan to check only one large bag with all our toiletries and the rest of our clothes, and snack bars for breakfast in the room.

I use a small back pack, 3 zippered compartments +, and I put everything of value in it. We use Amtrak and we each have one rolling duffel and one carry-on. Like I said, everything of value, cameras, Ipod, gameboy, spare underwear, some toiletries, meds, book, magazine, pencil and paper, Sudoko book, hand held GPS (geocacher here), stocking cap ( train A/C is very cold at night), flashlight, ear plugs, head phones and some choice candy and hard candy. My pockets have my wallet, ID,med card, AAA card, charge cards cash etc. Everything else is in my duffel. We also pack a small soft sided cooler with sandwiches and drinks, snacks and more candy. We hate toting alot and my back pack may seem like alot but it isn't and being strapped to my back, don't know it's there. We're from Ohio so it's along train ride to DC and a train switch and on to Kissimmee and I like to have all my toys to play with in route. My wife just nods off and on, eats and nods off some more. I like to read, puzzles occupy me too along with choice music and a few games of Zelda ( passion of mine) on my gameboy. My wife says I'm worse than a little child with my junk but it's what keeps me happy.

I am also a frequent Amtrak traveler (although not for Disney-- WAY too far from Westchester!), so I definitely get the cold part! I always make sure I have a sweater!!

Thanks, everyone for reminding me of MEDICINES! I take a daily prescription and both DBF and I are especially prone to headaches (and I can be prone to what Pepto Bismol can solve!), so Tylenol is an absolute must. Some chewable tummy pills for my nervous traveller (DBF, who hates to fly) will probably come in handy...I think Malox is the name...that sound familiar to anyone??

My carryon is my backpack.

In it I have:

Laptop
Laptop Charger
Kindle
Kindle charger
Cellphone charger
PDA charger
legal pad (new)
various pencils and pens
travel hairbrush
ponytail holders and other hair accessories
travel hairspray and various other sundries in a quart bag
clean t-shirt
deodorant
sweater or cardigan (unless I'm wearing it)
socks
makeup (minerally powder, blush and brushes)
tweezers
safety pins
Excedrin

In my crossbody Coach bag I have
Wallet
cellphone
PDA
cash
feminine personal items
lip balm

Crossbody Coach bag can, in a pinch, fit INSIDE backpack.

And that's it. Everything else is in my luggage, where it should be.

I got myself a Victorias Secret Pink Backpack, and I wish I had invested in a backpack sooner as I travel alot. Its very room with many compartments to organize things.

Its easier on my shoulders and my carpal tunnel wrists.

I keep my quart size bag of toiletries in there, also a few books for me, a few small things for the kids like card games, a change of clothes for myself, and a small bag with my spare batteries & portable chargers for ipod and my mobile phone. Once at the hotel, I will leave the bag there as my mother has a small backpack for the park use.

My purse thing will keep my ipod, wallet, camera and cellphone plus the charger for the cell phone. The Ipod wont go into the park with me - it will stay at the hotel.

We aren't taking any checked luggage. So all my clothing goes into the carry-on!!

I'll wear my bulkiest shoes, and possibly pack one other pair. We're going right after Thanksgiving, and I'll wear jeans, and layer several tops, with a sweater and a hoodie so I won't have to pack them. So basically my carry-on will have about 4-5 outfits, all designed to mix and match. I have no problem washing a few items out in the hotel's bathroom!! We'll toss clothes in the washer one day, probably in the evening while swimming at the hotel pool.

I'll also have my "personal item", which will probably be a backpack. I'll pack the bag I use to carry in the parks inside it, along with things like my camera, phone, small toiletries, laundry detergent for one load, pennies for the pressed machines, etc.

I believe in travelling light!! I've found that most of the things I thought I "had" to bring just took up too much space and were too much of a hassle to carry around.
