:) :) can you please help? we have offered to pay to take my mum and dad away with us next year, they are divorced but get on very well. we will pay for them to go and all they have to do is pay for their food and any bits they want while they are there.
the problem i now have is that we have nearly paid for the holiday and now my dad is not sure if me can afford to come. i have told him that he wont need to save to much and that it is fairly cheap to eat out there. we really dont want him to miss out on the chance to have this holiday with the grandchildren. we know that he wants to come.
my question to you all is how much money do you think he will need?
we are staying at the por for 21d?
thanks kellie:)

:yay: :yay: thanks everyone for all their advice. just to let you know that everything has worked out. my dad is going to come on holiday with us, he was getting outside influance from ex-wife no2 (he has got engaged to her again:scared1: yes he is stupid , that or he just like wedding cake).
she didnt have a problem with him going away with his ex as its been over 25years.
i won't bore you all with the family history but lets just say me and my sister have never seen eye to eye with wife no2 and we have never been included in her family holidays but she thinks she has the right to have an input into mine.
but its all sorted now and i can get it all paid for and get planning.
thanks everyone

Hi Kellie

Big hug, I hope it works out. You're really lucky your parents get on so well - mine wouldn't even attend my wedding if the other one was there! (And I got married last year)

Anyway, to your question. I would remind your dad that he has got to eat in the UK during the time when he'd be on holiday. He'll get more for his money over in the US for that food money here.

Hope it works out
Vicki

Hi
Nobody can really tell you how much it will cost, every family likes to eat at different places. We prefer offsite. While there last month we averaged $75/ day for food, drinks and snacks for 3 of us, so $25/head/day(we dont eat breakfast so 2 meals a day). Onsite (or offsite) you can pay that for just for a main course, so it varies greatly. If you are having a car and eating offsite then costs will be usually less than onsite.

I dont think he would need that much, the biggest expense for him would be tickets.

You can get an idea on the menu prices for the food he likes, but I cant imagine he would need any more than a few hundred, even though its three weeks. Food is much cheaper out there.

we are paying for all the holiday, tickets, discovery cove and the kids birthday meals. it is only his food he has to get.
i just need to get this sorted as we have very nearly paid for the holiday and dont fancy loosing the money on his place, but what is more important is him not letting my girls down.

my mum and dad came with us last year, and are going next time too.
To be honest we wound up paying for most meals etc anyhow, by the time we would of paid for 6 of us 2 more wasnt a huge deal in the grand scheme of how much everything cost to get there! food is cheap out there.

you sure hes not just got cold feet and looking for a way out?

it had crossed my mind. he hasnt been able to work as many hours as he used to as he has look after my 84 year old nan so i do think money is an issue but we did book 6 months ago and he still has lots of time to save.
i will have to wait and see, i have asked hi to let me know soon before i pay the last of my holiday.

Can't really help, but just wanted to say that I really hope that you and your Dad find a way to sort it out...

... my little one (Lucy, now 2) didn't ever get to meet her Grandad on my side (he died a few years before she was born) and I find that really sad for both of them. For Lucy because she never met her Grandad and for my Dad never meeting his really lovely Grand-daughter (who I KNOW he would have adored...). :sad1:

So life is way too short and it is a shame to not make the most of the opportunities whilst we have them. So I REALLY hope that you all sort it out and have the best family holiday together :)

thanks.
i know how hard it can be as my father in law died 10years ago and only got to see 1 of my 4 girls.
you are right that life is to short and should be grabbed with both hands and enjoyed to the max.

it's always difficult to budget for food, but remember the exchange rate is in our favour and food in Orlando is very cheap for us at the moment. Hope you find a way as life really is too short to miss out.

We took our parents to Disney over Christmas and they had a great time with their grandson. Although both got ill at different times, both with asthma and my mother ended up in hospital, it made us really think how precious it was to have them with us as life really is too short.

When are you going? Is free dining a possibility?

It is on offer now with Uk tour operators. I magine it will be released for customers booking through US Disney at some point. Who did you book with? Can you add it on? Or if you cannot get free dining you could buy the Disney dining plan so you know how much it costs in advance?

We took my parents to Vero and Beach Club Villas this May. It is fab looking back at the pics of the kids with them and it was a big help for us too. I truly hope your dad can do. What a magical trip it will be.

All the best,
Mandy :)

Where do you plan to eat? onsite or will you have a car?
I would say as long as your not going to eat onsite/expensive meals that $40/20 pounds per day is plenty. We usually spend around $60-$70 a day for 2 of us and we like to eat! LOL

My thoughts are very much with you Kellie and I hope that you have a heart-felt talk with your Dad and work things out: I will keep my fingers crossed that you find a way. :thumbsup2

Please keep us updated.

Best Wishes,
Alice

I can't help thinking that this may just be an excuse to pull out.

21 days with your 'ex' is a long time, even if they do get on well, after all they divorced for a reason.

Is he worried about who is going to look after you nan as well. ?

Are you staying on or off site?

If your staying on site you can buy the refill mugs(approx $12.00) which you can use for the length of your stay, can only be used at the resort you buy it at. you can use it for tea, coffee and soft drins at the refill station.

I would suggest $50 a day would be a good but, this depends on how many times a day you plan to eat. We only do a big breakfast, have a snack afternoon and a big evening meal.

My prices are based on what i have given my in-laws who are coming with us and staying at the all stars movies.

Breakfast meal was about$5.99
Main Meal $7.99

Check out the food court menu, most places are the same:
