I got my DH a color Nook for Christmas. What else do I need? Gift certificates for books? What is the best plan for getting books?

Suggestions, please!

Theres a great thread on the budget board about Nooks. I personally have the 3g Wifi Nook, not the Color Nook but I love it. There are tons and tons of free books out there on the Bn.com website. Heres the website:

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/Free-eBooks/379001668/?start=43&cds2Pid=29905

You can also search on the Nook with a 0.00 price and hundreds of thousands will come up.

Today is Friday, so there are two new free books just today for the Free Fridays promotion. Free Fridays are books offered for free for one week only.

You don't need a BN.com card at all. All you would do would be to set up a BN.com account (if you don't have one now) and that is it. you can purchase books directly from your device. I've only bought one book and it was easy to do. -just use a credit card.

I would recommend getting a cover. I bought my Nook cover at Amazon (of all places) Once I got the cover I was pretty much set.

I have the cover for mine so it doesn't get scratched up or anything when I throw it in my bag.
Also, a B&N gift card would be great - yes, they have a lot of free books as well as the free for Friday book, but usually they're older books or the first in a series (sort of the lost leader to get you hooked). There are tons of inexpensive books for under $5.00 as well as first run books and I like having a gift card to chip away at instead of having 99 cent charges run through on my credit card.

See Idont think the Free Fridays are that awful . As an English teacher, I love having classics available for me and my students. I have let my students read books from my Nook as a "reward". To my students, it is clicking buttons instead of turning pages.

I've been told that some Free Fridays have been current authors. I did download the newest James Patterson a while back. I'm more of a classics person so the more current stuff doesn't appeal to me. I have dowloaded samples of books and in some cases that has been just enough for me.

I've have almost 100 books on there and I have only bought one.

I will say the educator discount is not valid for Nooks, Nook accessories, and nook book purchases.

Could someone explain to me (simply) how to search for books with a 0.00 price? I can't figure out how to do that on the BN website.

Thanks.

Oh, I don't think they're awful - I've gotten MANY of the free for Fridays. It's introduced me to many authors that I hadn't previously known about so then I wanted to buy some of their other books - which aren't free. Also I have some old favorites that I like to read over and over, and I bought those. I also downloaded one of the classic bundles (I think it has like 50 classic books) and that cost a couple of dollars. Many of these aren't expensive, so I buy them using the gift card. About every 6 months I reload the gift card with another $50.00.
I just don't want to limit my reading selections to only the ones I can get for free and it annoys me to have a bunch of small charges go through my bank account (I log all those transactions on my financial program) so the gift card works perfect for me.

On your Nook, you can type search and type in 0.00 and about a million will show up.

on the website, you have to do genre specific and then sort from low to high.

It doesn't matter what kind of wireless router you have at home does it?
