What do I need when getting a transfer from someone...

I am currently getting a transfer from someone. I'm not worried about the person. They have alot of posts and have been dis members for a couple years. I am just worried about giving my Memeber # out to someone I don't know. I know there isn't any other way but it does make me a little nervous. Anyone have any advice?

Even if they have your member number they can't do anything with it like reservations or other transactions without your SSN or other identifying number.

Renting points and transfers are transactions that require trust. Just like most financial transactions between individuals.

Do you know how long it takes until it shows up in my account?

I have had the points show up while I still had the other member on the phone. I paid via Paypal. It only took a few minutes for the whole process to be finalized.

Mine still aren't there and it was yesterday when they did the transfer.

I'd call MS right away and get their confirmation, along with the transaction number.

I'm thinking that maybe the reported new way of tracking home resort and UY may delay the input of the transfer in the system? In any event, I'd call MS right away.

Some odd quirky little things happen when transfering points sometimes. I have transfered points twice and once MS told the person it would take acouple of days before they could use them, this was about 3 years ago. The last time I transfered points they showed up in the members account right away and then "disappeared"...this was over a weekend and the member I had transfered to was a bit anxious (understandably) I was gone for the a couple days, but by the time I got back it was all straigtened out. MS told her that even though she couldn't see them in her account they were there all the time
My brother had an experience much like Kimberh's, where the points actually showed up in the other persons account while they were on the phone with MS. As is often the case things don't seem to always work the same way, I've had three different experiences with the three transfers I'm familiar with. Hope everything works out.

I would second this, too. Since they have updated the computers, who knows how long things take. I have not had a transfer since all the updates.
