What do I need to know about split stays?

The DH and I are THINKING about splitting our stay for our trip next year between a moderate and a deluxe. I just wondered what I needed to know ahead of time. If I remember right, I'll have to make 2 separate reservations, one for each resort, with a deposit for each, correct? But how does it work if we book a package. I'm guessing that when we change rooms that we would get new KTTW cards? Is that correct? Anything else that I might need to know. The DH and I like experiencing the different resorts that Disney has to offer, but I just want to make sure that I'm clear on everything before we decide to do this. TIA!

We just did a split between POR & POLY last week. I loved it & it was like having 2 vacations. Yup, 2 ressies, 2 deposits. We did room only since we already had tickets. It would work the same way with a package. Are you just doing hotel & tickets or dining plan too?? I packed one bag for POR & one bag for Poly. We had a rental so it couldn't have been easier. I would do a split stay again in a minute. Already thinking about where I would like to do the trip this next time! Good luck & have fun. Btw, what resorts are you looking into for your trip?

Wow, lucky you staying at the Poly! That's definitely one of my "dream" resorts!:cloud9:
We will definitely be doing a package, and almost sure that we will be doing dining as well. We are withing driving distance, so we'll have our own vehicle.
We are thinking about doing CSR and WL, but I'm not 100% positive yet. Would love to be able to do WL and Boarwalk, but I don't think we can afford 2 deluxes. We stayed at CBR last year and LOVED it, but want to be able to do a different resort this year.

We did AKL and CSR last December. We stayed 9 days total, 4 nights AKL and 4 nights CSR. We wanted the dining plan for both stays so we got a 9 day MYW Park Hoppers (the more days on the ticket the cheaper) and then a one day base ticket (you have to buy at least a one day on your second package in order to get the dining plan).

Since you have a car, you do not need to worry about transferring your luggage from one resort to the other. Also, yes, you will receive two KTTW cards, one when you check in to each resort. People get confused about using the same KTTW card for tickets during you second resort stay, but honestly it's not confusing at all. Just check the dates on the front.

The thing to keep in mind about a split stay is that you need to spend time packing and un-packing in the middle of your stay. You're also without a "home" for most of that day so a mid-day nap will probably not be possible.
