What do I need to know about Memory Maker?

and yes make sure you are all in the same car-- if not it will only capture your car. You are better off using your card and just taping the photo that belongs to you

  • Purchaser links MM to his/her MDE
  • Everyone in the party needs to be linked to purchaser's MDE as Family or friend.
Links should allow purchaser & F&F to view all photos - there is an option to choose in setup.
When linked properly, everyone's photos will be linked to purchaser's account. They do not have to be with the purchaser, they do not have be on the same reservation or staying at same location, they do not have to be at Disney at the same time as the purchaser.
  • PP Photographers will scan MB when taking shots. Rides will automatically acquire photos for anyone linked to purchaser's account.
  • The purchaser can view photos via MDE app on smart phone. F&F will also be able to view photos on MDE app. Again...Make sure all accounts are set up to share / view all photos settings.
  • Some photos show up on the app quickly and some times it may take a day to show up. I usually view the photos at the end of the day to make sure all were acquired. It's fun to recap the day with everybody.
  • If photos don't show up in the purchaser's account call PP or go by PP kiosk. They'll need photo location, date and general time & who specifically is in the shot - they will compare with other photos in the account. They do a good job to find your photos and attach them to your account.
  • Watch for photos, especially on the rides. I've had a few ride photos not show up!!
  • Always ask every photopass photog if they do any magic shots and get them in addition to the regular shot.
  • Only photos in the purchaser's account can be downloaded under the purchased MM.
  • Edit photos via purchaser's account.
  • All F&F if linked properly can view & edit photos from their own account but if they try to download it they will be directed to pay for it. Last time I used MM - photos edited from F&F accounts did not show up in purchaser's account??
  • Make sure to view / edit and download photos within 30 days. If not, you can ask for / pay for an extension. Do this before photos are removed from que.
  • You can download photos as many times you want. You can share with others in party via copy to CD or thumb drive. Or others can log into purchaser's account on their own computer and down load direct.
  • There will be a watermark on the photos until you download photos/activate the MM purchase.

MBs should acquire photos for all linked, even if in separate cars spread out over the ride. although when the system fails this is the scenario where it often fails. I've had it work properly many times but also had a few misses.

Obviously if you all are not in the same car, you most times will not be in the same photo! Although PP kiosk can sometimes merge two photos into one!

The issue here is 7DMT does not have a scan point. You can only get the photo via the MB.
The OP asked if only 1 person in their group bought a MB would they get the photo.
Yes it will see that band and link it in the Photopass account
But it wouldn't have any method to see others in her group, even if they are in her friends and family list since there are no other bands to read
So yes, they need to be in the same car, or near it. I looked at my Mine Train photos and it appears they get 6 people in most shots. 4 in the car plus 2 in the car nearby.

Maybe I have a MB question. If you purchase a ticket do you not get a MB for each ticket? I've been AP / DVC for last few years. All my trips, everyone gets a MB?? I'm not sure why only one would have a MB?

No. MB only come with resort stays or an AP
Those staying off site, or those local who do not buy an AP do not get a MB

Right - this is our situation. But, maybe we'll just get a couple of the cheapy bands and make sure our group is covered by splitting the band wearers up into two cars. Plus, it seems like its more convenient at the other photopass locations (rides, photographers, etc.). Probably worth the $25 for a couple bands.

Yes. Everyone having a linked MB would be a great help. If you do test them early on!

MM's predecessor PP+ distributed one PP+ card (for the entire party) to scan in photos for rides. When my kids or others rode without having the card they had to write down the photo number and someone with the card had to later that day go by with photo numbers to each ride and get them scanned to PP+ card. It was a pain in the rear. Although you could probably do something similar with MM but it definitely would not be worth it!

For the record, you can still get Photopass cards. Folks without MB use them. They work for everything just like they always have, you can touch them at the scan points, give them to photographers, etc. They won't give you Mine Train photos though because there is no touch point/viewing station on that ride. It's RFID only.

If you don't prepurchase memory maker can you still view and purchase your pictures after your trip?

I didn't see this mentioned:

there are photobooths around the parks, they are free and photos appear in photopass. Just use your hard tix or magic band to get them.

if your staying offsite you need a magic band in order to get ride photos from 7DMT and videos from the few rides that give you videos of you riding

Thanks for the info about the photobooths! Does anyone know where these are located? Or is there some kind of list of locations? We are pretty much newbies... haven't been to the other 3 parks but I did not see these when we were at MK. Will be doing all 4 parks this year with MM and I don't want to miss them!

Maybe this was mention and I missed it...If you purchase Memory Maker in advance, does it become activated when you arrive at Disney and have your first photo taken or when?

Also, when does the 30 days time start that you need to get your pictures before they are gone? Is it 30 days from the departure date?

Although they advertise 30 days, the pictures stay in the que for 45 days. If you view the photos on the website/app, a date taken is given and a date expired is given for each photos. so 45 days from date taken.

I have not tested this yet but have been told memory maker is good for 30 days after the first download. So photos stay in que for 45days - you download on 45th day - then memory maker should be good for another 30 days. Maybe?? I wouldn't push it but supposedly this is it. So you could stretch MM out for 75 days - theoretically!!?? You can also purchase an extension on the 45 days to stretch even further.

You can download as early and as often as you like.

No pics will be included in MM within 3 days of pre purchase.

You can view/edit photos without downloading. There is an annoying watermark on the photos until you download and apply the MM.

Call before you try because these things seem to change often.

That's good to know. I was wondering if I would have to look/edit/download the pictures right after we got back from our trip. Sometimes things can get really busy when you just get back from vacation and I didn't know if I would have to add this to the list of things that needed done right away. Thank you for your help!

Try to view them while on your trip. I try to every night but it's hard to do sometimes. Digitally scanned photos and automatically acquired photos/videos sometimes don't show up. The photopass folks are good about finding them but the longer you wait I would think it may be more difficult, mostly just trying to remember the photos you took.
