What do I need to know about Disney Visa?

I already have a package through Disney.com. I only put down a deposit so far. Can I apply for a Disney Visa card and use that at 0% interest for 6 months to pay off the package? I see it says you can get special pictures at EG if you have a Disney Visa. Is that still the case? Will those pics be included in our memory makers photo pass? I see you can get some discounts on shopping and at some restaurants. Does that make it worth it? Can I get a discount on anything I already bought? I bought tickets to MNSSHP so far.

I haven't used the free financing option, but my understanding is that yes, that's one of the benefits. Certainly read the fine print.

The photo spot at Epcot is open and those pictures are free for you to download whether you purchased memory maker or not.

Considering it's a no annual fee card, there's very little downside to having it open, no more than opening any other card.

No retroactive discounts and no ticket discounts. The discounts are shopping if you spend at least $50 and certain restaurants. You'll also get promos in the mail/email sometimes for an extra percent or free shipping from the Disney store.

The card is only 1% earn on everyday purchases, so it's not a great rate for your everyday card. But, it's good to have open to use for the specific cases (discounts, photo spot) that you're referencing. We have one open but rarely use it unless there's a special promotion running where you get a better earnings percentage (I think 5% on grocery right now for us, for example).

Depends on which version of the Disney Visa you get.
  • Disney Visa card - no annual fee
  • Disney Premier Visa card - $49 annual fee
Rewards are better for the Premier card. Full details on the differences are listed at:

We use ours for costly purchases--car repairs, new eyeglasses, etc. The 1% comes as $1 per $100 you put on the card and pay off. You accumulate these "Disney Reward Dollars" that you can then order a card to load them onto and spend them as you'd use a gift card.

We accumulate $100-$200 a year usually that makes nice fun money for Disney trips.

Something to be aware of is that you will not get the Disney Visa merchandise or restaurant discount if you use the card as backup for room charging. Anything that qualifies for the Disney Visa discount must be put directly onto the card.

Fair point.

Considering that there are a couple of no annual fee 2% cards on the market right now, I definitely wouldn't consider the Disney card with the AF. You can always buy yourself a GC with whatever cash you redeem on a better performing card that didn't charge you $49 for the privilege.

I've had the Disney Visa card since Chase started the program; we actually have both the basic and the premier cards. I like using them as this makes the rewards "ear-marked," actually saved for a Disney vacation. We use the premier card almost exclusively, especially for the 2% categories and pay it in full monthly, so it's interest free. I have about $1100 in rewards right now, far offsetting the annual fee. That will mostly cover the cost of my hotel and my park pass for my 5 night trip this summer (although we are saving it instead, as a multi-generational trip is on the horizon for Jan 2024). I know it's not the "best" rewards card, but it works for us.

Yes, as long as it is a package you booked. A room-only with separate ticket purchase does not qualify for the financing offer.

That's what we do as well! I know those funds are there for vacation and I can't "rob" it to use for anything else.

To tack on to this post, if I may....

I got an email to upgrade to the Premier card and an offer for a $50 statement credit for the first year. If I end up deciding I don't love the Premier card after the year is it easy to downgrade back to the no-fee card? Does anyone know? Thanks!

Same, we actually save up the rewards and use them to pay our DVC dues every year!

Yes, I did exactly that. I had to call I think- but it was easy and painless.

We use our premier card for every day purchases and pay it off each month. We’re using our Rewards Dollars this year for on board spending on a cruise.

I upgraded last month with this promo, and they said you can call and switch back any time. They said some people switch back and forth multiple times a year, which sounded insane lol.

For me, even with the $49 fee I'll come out way ahead bc the 2% categories (gas, groceries, and restaurants) are my main spending! I know there are better cards out there, but I prefer this one bc it "forces" me to use the money for our trips. Other cards I'd require myself to be more practical, but we have saved literally thousands using the Disney Visa.

Awesome! That is exactly how I feel. I'm going to go for the upgrade! Thanks!

Hi! I’m interested in using my rewards/redemption card to pay for some of my dues for 2023. Do you transfer money to the card first and then use the card to pay the dues? Do you get to key in the amount you want used off the card or does it take all of it? Thanks for any advice!

Yes, you have to transfer the funds to the rewards card first. Them when you're paying the dues you can indicate how much you want to pay from the rewards card.

The problem with the Disney card is not only its weak earning structure, but those rewards are captive with Disney. If you see that as a positive characteristic, it's like you're saying to a 2% card, "Oh, no thank you, I'm happy with my $100 Disney dollars, you can keep your $200 cash, I can't possibly use that extra $100 for anything else."

The discount at restaurants and merchandise are the exact same as the ones that come with a Chase checking account when you select a Disney design for your debit card. And often there are bonuses floating around for opening a Chase checking account (just google it), so more free money.

I think it's like any credit card that has very specific rewards. You can get a credit card which gives you frequent flyer miles for your favorite airline, and then the airline decides not to service your local airport any more. You can get this card which lets you put rewards on a card that works like a Disney gift card, and then you can read about all of the Disney price increases announced in the past few days and lose your enthusiasm for going to Disney World or buying Disney things.

Some people have numerous credit cards and if one no longer makes them happy they leave it in their sock drawer. Other people can't or won't have a lot of credit cards. If you are in the latter category, there are "no annual fee" cards which give you more than the 1% that you get on the Disney card.
