I'm going to be staying at Pop and understand that I can pay for high speed internet. My laptop is wireless and I have never plugged any cable to it. Do I just bring a enternet cable or do I have to set something up or change settings

Thanks

Sarah

thanks for the info, I had read that once before still doesn't tell me how to do it. I'm really hoping that someone will tell me how that personally hooked theirs up..

I was just there with my wireless laptop.

When you get to your room there will be a cable on the stand between the beds and a sign that says its for the internet.

First you plug that into the back of your laptop -- you will be able to tell where to plug it in

THEN you turn on your laptop and let it load.

then bring up internet explorer and it will bring you to the page where you have to accept the charges.

Click accept and you are on your way - its 9.95 for contiguous 24 hour service.

That said here are my warnings - I stayed in three rooms over the past month in FL - at all of them I had troubles.

The plug in is very loose and so if you move, breathe, sneeze you are able to disconnect yourself.

Also I had NUMEROUS problems with being able to connect the second time - I never had a problem the first time with the paying screen but then say I left the room and came back and wanted to check something - I would start the process over again and it should have allowed me right back on but many many times I got an error screen...there is a number to call and I did call it once (but often it was not convenient for me to be calling) and it probably took them a good 20 minutes to get me back online. They said it could be my firewall or a virus program but whatever I don't have that problem at other hotels, Panera, etc.

Good luck.

Question: If you log off during those 24 hours, do you get re-charged. Friends of mine went down recently, and everytime they logged off and shut down, then went back online, they got charged.

So, do you shut down or just put the laptop on standby?

Nope -- if you accept say now at 7:30 pm - anytime between now and tomorrow night at 7:30 you are on one day - I have my bill right here and I logged in numerous times over my time there and I was only charged once a day. I shut my laptop down pretty much every time I got off as I was leaving for the park or going to bed.

Great, much thanks for that clarification! Wonder why they got charged then? Oh well, c'est la vie!

What does everyone do with their laptop when they leave the room? Do you trust that you will find it where you left it, or stash it?

When I leave my room, my laptop is LOCKED to something.

At WDW resorts, I lock my laptop to the wire shelves in the vanity area. I weave my locking cable among several tines of the shelf before attaching it to the laptop, then cover the laptop with a suitcase or sweatshirt. Covering it doesn't guarantee anything, locking it doesn't guarantee anything, but doing both make it much less likely that the laptop will walk off.

If you arrive very early in the morning and your room is not ready, will the desk take care of your laptop?

just plug it in the cable behind the lamp on the table,,it works great do it every trip,,you can use it to order food at papa johns or dominos ,,and lots of other places..you can save the 50 cents on the phone call..

If someone did it wouldn't mean it would work for your laptop. It all depends on the various network settings of your PC based upon your home ISP and Disney' setup-services.

The most important thing which safetymon provided the link to is that there is a 7/24 technical support.

If you encounter a problem that is not easily resolved then call them. This is not something to loose sleep over. It is common to need to make minor adjustments to connect.

If you are not wireless, CAT5E cables should already be in the room, but someone may have taken it by mistake...call the front desk they will either get you one or connect you to the group that can.

Does anyone know if the process is the same for using wireless service in the lobbies of GF, YC etc.? I'm trying to avoid bringing my laptop just to check e-mail.

My laptop has an internal wireless card and I right - click on the icon in the task bar and select "search for available networks"

I was planning to use my wireless card too, but didn't know if this was tabu to avoid paying WDW for their internet fees.

You will not be able to pick up any wireless networks. If you are staying at a WDW resort that has wireless in the common areas there is still a charge.

The wireless pulls from a cell signal so it should work fine. Unless of course they have somehow blocked the signals, which I suppose is possible. We shall see!

1) If it fits into the hotel's safety deposit box, no problem.
2) Otherwise, they WILL NOT be responsible for it.
3) They do not want the liability of a computer floating around.
4) People can bring a bad computer and say that WDW damaged it.

NOTE: The convention resorts have wireless networks in the lobbies and public areas. Your computer can pick these up, but you will still pay for the service. Otherwise, only available in the rooms through the HSIA cable. Your own service (eg. Sprint Wireless) still should work.
