Hi Everyone,

I just noticed how disgusting my walls and baseboards are...don't ask why it took that long to notice, I probably just avoided it  . Anyway, what do I give the walls a bath with? Murphys Oil Soap...let me know what you think works best

I love, love the magic eraser! I always have some on hand for all those pesky markings on walls, floors, baseboards, etc.
Have fun.

I love that eraser sponge from Mr. Clean...
For painted walls and baseboard...Murphy's oil soap works for dirt, but the trick is keeping it dry. Wet walls or baseboard attract dust(almost makes it stick to it, and then it is difficult to remove dust-it tends to build up quickly)

There was once a formula that my mother used to wash the walls and it worked great. It had something like baking soda, ammonia and water in it. It may have had vinegar in it. Maybe you can do a google search for it?

I am doing the same thing. I am going to use Mr. Clean liquid. My walls are just basically dusty.

Is the magic eraser only for spot cleaning or can I wash the whole wall with it...and will it effect the paint? BTW thanks for the responses, I'll definitely check out the homemade version too!

I found this web page -- lots of interesting things here

I think what you are referring to is the Multipurpose cleaner??

Hey, that's the one! The multi-purpose cleaner. I'm getting away from alot of chemicals because my MIL has MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity).

For dusting, before cleaning, I actually use my Swiffer. The regular one (not wet or vac) and dust the walls--It works excellent for this!!

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser! :thumbsup2

NO WAY! THAT THING REMOVED THE PAINT IN MY APARTMENT! I lost the box and didn't have the instructions...but it removed the paint on one of my walls! Not huge but I'm glad I caught it before I kept using it. It went straight into the trash. Hopefully they don't notice when I move out :rolleyes1

I am NOT a cleaning expert, but I got tired of looking at my walls and used Dawn on them, it worked pretty well!

Depends (no, not those :rotfl2: ):

----Most walls for quick cleaning, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser,
----With wallpaper, I used to use damp paper towel with baking soda on it
----For really filthy walls, soapy water (Fantastic or Greased Lightning) and big sturdy, sponges.

Magic Eraser is only for spot cleaning. If you have a black mark on the wall it will very lightly "sand" it off. It might effect the paint if you rub too hard.

I was using hot soap water/then windex/now
I am using that Clorox spray.
That's excellent on tile/walls, stinky though, make sure you have the windows
open and plenty of ventillation. Very strong bleech smell.
But works great! :thumbsup2

Less than 2 weeks to see the MICK! :cool1: :yay:

Thanks for this link! I used baking soda and salt to clean the kitchen sink today and it sparkles again, almost like new. I also started to clean the fiberglass (acrylic?) tub/shower with baking soda because it's gotten stained over the years. It requires a little more elbow grease, but I did make a dent in removing some of it. I think I need to use more vinegar too, but I ran out.
