What do cast members do with "less desirable" pins?

Just a question - if cast member can't say no to a pin trade offer, what do they do with their bad pins? Wouldn't their lanyards quickly end up with undesirable pins? Where do they get their pins from? What type of pins do you usually find CM's wearing? Just curious as we try this for the first time next month. Thanks!

My DD gets a pin if she likes. Less desireable to you, a real treasure to her! Last year she was excited to get a Little Brother pin (Mulan's dog) from a CM's lanyard...CM said she was the first person who even knew who it was!

I once saw a CM throw a pin into a drawer behind the cash register after trading and get out another one to put in its place. Said he hated that pin and kept getting the same one over and over. To my understanding (I asked a couple of CMs), the pins they wear belong to Disney, and not them. One CM told me that she gets attached to certain pins though and hates to see them go. They don't have to trade for a pin if they already have one like it on their lanyard though.
