What do Canadians think of Le Cellier?

Hey all!
This may be a silly question, but I haven't been to Le Cellier yet, and I'm wondering what you all think of it? Is it worthwhile, or am I better off with the Alberta beef I can get here in Edmonton?

Obviously we don't really need to experience Canada in the WS, since we live here, but I just wanted to see how you all feel about the restaurant (and the rest of the Canada pavilion, for that matter). We haven't been to WDW since we moved here, so I'm interested to go back and compare! I know I find the American pavilion rather mortifying. I promise there is more to the States than greasy burgers and Revolutionary War re-enactors!

I'm not a big meat eater and I like my steak well done (so take this FWIW) but I love Le Cellier!!! :thumbsup2 Even my well done steak was not dry or tough. It was delicious.

The pavilion while pretty (because of the gardens and flowers) does nothing for me. We walk through each time we go to Epcot because my son loves the waterfall. Otherwise we would pass it by.

Reviews of this place are mixed, as are reviews of all restaurants. Perfectly understandable, given that everyone's meal preferences and experiences are unique to them. We have eaten at le Cellier a couple of times. On both occasions I had the cheddar soup, the mushroom filet, and the creme brulee. Both meals were excellent and my filet was served perfectly rare. Tender and juicy. But don't be surprised if you are seated late for your ADR, and know that the tables are really close together. Because of the design of the restaurant, the acoustics are problematic- it can be a bit noisy.

As for the rest of the pavilion, you really should see the movie if you haven't seen it before. Martin Short is a hoot. The gardens are beautiful and worth a stroll. The shop is disappointing, IMO. They used to have some very interesting merchandise; but as with all WDW merchandise , it is all pretty generic now.

If you have the time to watch a performance of Off Kilter, do so. Their Celtic rock is a blast.

Have been there twice. Once for dinner as a single credit in 2009 and once for lunch as a single in 2012.
Enjoyed very much. Just not sure it is worth being called a signature.

One of those, if you haven't tried it, you probably should, kinda of deals.

Gotta see Martin Short.

We are not big fans. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing. We had both previewed the menu online, and decided we wanted the house burgers. When we arrived, we were sad to learn they had changed their menus and taken the burgers off the menu. It was a really hot day, so a big steak dinner was not what we were feeling. I wanted less food - so I went with Caesar salad and the potato soup. Soup was amazing - salad was not. DH had the sirloin and equated it with The Keg. DS had the pasta, and thought it was ok, but not great. We decided it wasn't worth the money for us, and we didn't enjoy it enough to go back.

Le Cellier is a must do every trip for us. AAA Canadian beef every time for me! The entire family loves it, it's the meal everyone looks forward to.

From what I've seen most of the "negative" reviews on Le Cellier are based on overhyped expectations, price, and the fact it is 2 dining credits for supper. People are expecting it to be the greatest experience of their life and if it isn't they feel let down.

My expectations are a great steak and a cold beer. They've delivered all 4 times we've eaten there! :thumbsup2

It is a must do for us Edmontonians. The food is excellent, the gardens are beautiful and I love talking to the servers about their Disney experiences. We have gone on Canadian Thanksgiving and though it's not a traditional Thanksgiving meal it is great to hear 'Happy Thanksgiving!' Oh, and I can actually drink a Spicy Caesar! LOL

I was thinking of not booking it this October trip (there are just so many places that I would love to try but haven't yet) but my DH and DS (14) were so upset that I was even considering it that we are going again!

Thanks for the reviews everyone! Maybe we'll give it a try next trip to see what all the hype is about. And I'll have to check out The Keg for a bit of local flavor ;)

Most of what I remember of the pavilion is totem polls and the garden with the waterfall. I think we've missed the movie! We're usually too wiped from Future World by the time we make it to the WS, so we usually just trudge over to the pavilion where we are eating and collapse. But we will HAVE to check out the Canada movie, I LOVE Martin Short! And I love Canada!

I love Le Cellier and make an ADR every trip! I've had their steak before and it was really good- both the fillet mignon and the New York strip were perfect. I adore the cheddar cheese soup, the maple creme brulee and the pretzel bread.. those are my favourites!

But now with their change to signature dining and the price increase ($44-$64 for an entree?!), I have a new tactic for Le Cellier, and its budget friendly too! I don't order an entree at all. We each order a bowl of cheddar cheese soup, share the caesar salad between 2 people(its really big), and the creme brulee. My mother and I did this last August and it was one of the best meals of our entire trip (and only $50 before drinks!) :thumbsup2

Last visit was in 2012 for lunch,.before that it was in 2007.

We really enjoyed it but we had the dining plan. Would not likely go there if not, especially for dinner now that it's a signature restaurant.

Both of visits we had a great meal and great service.

I like it but since it turned into a signature I have not been back as it is just too expensive for what it is.

I like it and try to go every trip. I think it could be even better if the keg sponsored it. Billy Miner pie for dessert anyone?

My experience: The steak was good, but the service was indifferent. I'm not planning to go back anytime soon.

We went quite a few times with never thinking of eating there. Who wants to eat in a place they live? And then we went and loved it. We tried for 5 years to get back in before we finally were able to and loved it again.

To each his or her own though. it depends on what you like really. IF you like steak you will like it. That is their specialty. Probably not as good as the top steak houses in the world but i had zero complaints. At the very worst you will be having a nice meal in WDW. How bad could it be? hahahah

Enjoy it.

A big thumbs up for the restaurant management staff. In true Canadian spirit, we wanted to enjoy a Crown Royal with our steak one evening and they didn't have any in stock. One of the Managers came by (from Canada of course) and felt our pain. She had someone walk down to the U.K pavilion to the Rose & Crown pub and bring us back a bottle. It only took 15 minutes and we had our drinks ready just in time for our steaks to arrive. :cool1:

DH and I went once a couple trips ago. It was a late ADR, like I think it was supposed to be for 8:15-8:30pm but we ended up having to wait an hour just to get seated. Needless to say I was hungry and tired by the time we got our food and I just was not happy with the situation so I didn't enjoy myself. DH liked his food a lot though and he's been bugging to go back so I made an ADR for our September trip to give it another try. The things we do for love :rotfl:

We went back when it was a one credit TS and enjoyed it. We did feel the tables were too close together and it was loud though (lots of kids in a very small space).
We are planning a date night for our upcoming trip and want to go to a Signature. Le Cellier has made our short list based on the menu alone, but I am hesitant. I would be annoyed to pay those prices and be in a cramped and loud space again. It was understandable as a one credit. I expect a little more atmosphere for what they are charging now.

We usually go to Jiko for our date night (and we LOVE it) but wanted to try something new this time. We are also somewhat inhibited by the fact that neither of us enjoy most seafood. I am thinking we may go with Artist Point or The Yachtsman instead.

I plan on booking this for the next trip. Never been. However, I think I will book it as an after dinner dessert-only reservation. Not every adr has to be for a full meal. Maybe San Angel Inn dinner and Cellier for dessert.

I want to try the maple creme brule!
