What Disney Tip Are you really glad you listened to?

One of the best tips I got here is to go to Japan in Epcot, where they have a counter in the store with oysters. You pick one, they cut it open, and you get the pearl inside. I've forgotten how much it was, but not that much - the setting is more, but you can choose any setting or no setting from their selection. They hit a gong if you get a big oyster, which we did. It's a great mother-daughter souvenir.

Great Thread!
We leave in 3 weeks and I've already used some of the tips found on Dis! I have my daughters' stuff all packed with individual outfits in Glad bags.
I also bought the travel Space bags for my husband and I. It's amazing how much room I have left in the suitcases! I was going to ship down a box of diapers, wipes etc, but I think I'll have enough room in the luggage and save the $ that it would cost to ship the box.

Hi Guys-

New to this board (which is so wonderful). I was wondering why no one else mentioned renting a car. We're going 4/23- 4/30 staying at the PO Riverside and we decided to rent a car this time. The car is only $100 for the entire 7 days which isn't that much more then Mears. I thought that it would make it easier to stop for groceries to stock in the now free fridge Disney gives you. Plus, it would make it alot quicker when we go to the other resorts for dinner ( I read in the Unofficial Guide that it can take up to 1 1/2 hours to travel from one resort to the other on Disney transp.) and should we decide to eat outside of Disney it would allow us to. Lastly, there are all the cheap offsite shopping sites for Disney souveniers. To me it just seemed worth it. Anyone else in agreement?

Ok, I thought I was the only person that rented a car at Disney?? Especially while staying at the POR or PORFQ? I have done our research too, & I hear that the buses are terrible for those 2 resorts. We like to venture off, but we also like to just get there too, se we are renters too :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Could you tell me where you are renting from? $100 is a steal and I'd love to convince my DH to do this (if it's still possible - we leave in less than 3 days!)

I've rented for $100 - $130 for 1 week from dollar, alamo and budget. I find this offers in the newspaper all the time in the travel section. Las time (jan 07) i paid $215 for 2 weeks with dollar

What is DTD?

And those of you that use the "space bags"...do your clothes end up wrinkled at all from the bag being "sucked" free of air?

I'll let you know after the trip;) ! We leave 2 weeks from Sunday!

I would like to know also about the space bags and if they work. also what size did you get and how much stuff did you put in the bags??

I got my Spacebags at a local Bed, Bath & Beyond. When I was looking at the selection I noticed they had "travel" space bags, where you don't need a vacuum cleaner to suck the air out. Once you have packed the clothes in the bag you seal it and then roll it towards the bottom of the bag where there's a valve to release the air and it stays decompressed.
The box I got had two sizes in them, I can't remember how many there were, I want to say 7 or 8. That was enough for both my husband and myself, although we are packing light because we have a washer/dryer in our condo at the resort.
I was able to put quite a bit in the bags and still keep it under the fill-line. For example, 5-6 shirts and a fleece jacket etc. I've been packed for about 2 weeks now and I've noticed that the bags still don't have any air in them when I've added things to the bag. They create a lot of extra space in the luggage!

Wal-mart has the "space" bags too. Just be careful. It's very easy to put more than 50 lbs in a suit case when you use them.

we dont have to worry about weight limit cause we are riding in the car with my mom in her conversion van. I just need to cut down on space since there will be the 7 of us in the van plus mom is bringing stuff dwon from my sister who is flying. I would love to get mine and hubbys into a rubbermaid container which will double as a table for the boys ps game system

My DD did this last month & it was $15.00.:goodvibes

I've read all 29 pages & have noted all of the great tips. One that I haven't seen suggested came to me from my Son who worked at Canada's Wonderland this past summer
Take a picture of your name & phone Number with your camera. This way if your camera is lost the people who found it have a way of knowing whom it belongs to. Also take a picture with all your resort information when your there again for the same reason.

Great thread that I'm just getting to now!

My favorite tips:

1. Buy the Unofficial Guide and use it!
2. Stay offsite to save some money
3. Crocs!
4. ADR's are essential!
5. Bring ziploc bags.
6. When exiting MK after the fireworks, go through the stores along Main street instead of outside. The stores are all connected, and are almost completely empty! You get to the main gate in like 35 seconds!

Those are the ones that stick out most in my mind. :)

If you use space bags on the way down, how do you suck the air back out for your trip home?

Oh nevermind, I see the air rolls out. I think I might just try those out....

Just a piece of advice that will save you some hassle...gardengrocer.com will ship the diapers to your hotel room for you, as well as any other baby needs you have. It was so nice to use! We ordered baby food, wipes, bibsters, and snacks for the hotel room. Place your order soon though:)

When you enter the parks, go to the LEFT and work your way back around. Most people go to the right and work their way around.

By going left, you'll have shorter lines for most of the day. Obviously at some point everyone will "meet in the middle".

We've always gone through the park that way. We also travel to WDW after Labor Day - it's a perk of home schooling your kids! :thumbsup2

Go during the slower times of the year. We just got back and had mostly 5 or 10 minute waits.
