What Disney is trying to do.

I realize that mistake and $75 a night was just a example I have seen times in low season when a room at a moderate can go for $90 or so
I can confirm what Doug McCoy originally wrote. I got a room this September at Pop Century for $75. Walk-in. Newly remodeled.

Was that rack rate though? In September they were doing discounts to rooms either room only or via package or APs, FL resident, etc

For example rack rate for a Standard Room at All-Star Sports was:

9/8: $123.00
9/9: $123.00
9/10: $100.00
9/11: $100.00
9/12: $100.00
9/13: $100.00
9/14: $100.00
9/15: $123.00
9/16: $123.00
* Prices exclude taxes

I know POP was more expensive than All-Star Sports rack rate.

I don't know about rack rate.
Here's the room charge from my credit card statement:

Maybe my room rate was actually $73, then tax.

Yeah...that's with a discount--it honestly may have even been a Hurricane Rate which was something like 40-50% off. I know when we went to extend our trip on 9/8 to include 9/17 and check out 9/18 rather than 9/17 they were doing Hurricane rate for those staying right around Irma.

The All-Stars are the least expensive aside from the Campgrounds. POP around that time was def. more expensive than All-Star Sports rack rate. I feel like POP around that time was around an average of $150 per night (obviously that's the average since weekends are more expensive than weekdays).

The reason to look at only rack rate is because discounts are never guaranteed and the % of the discount changes. Rack rate also has been trending going up.

but are there too many people vs parks?
I have those concerns too, with all the extra capacity the high-rises will allow.
Some parks already have truly egregious wait times. Magic Kingdom has many rides with 1+ hour waits. And a couple of them exceed 2 hour wait times. What a horrible way to spend 2 hours at a park... on your feet, in the heat, moving less than a yard per minute, no food/water for purchase in line, and some lines in the open sun.

If the new lodging simply steals customers from non-Disney hotels, then no effect on Park attendance. But if it results in greater crowds per day, then ugggh.

No of course that was not rack rate. It wasn't a hurricane rate. I booked third party for that particular trip. I have also done YC and GF for under $200/nt. I couldn't care less how much rack rate is as I have never and will never pay it. Point is you can definitely stay on property cheap. Just this week a PIN went out for under $70 for values.

No, of course not.

The hurricane rate I was talking to with the other poster not you.

But anyways it doesn't matter what discount you can get to get the price lower it's the Rack Rate that counts. For instance I know that Orbitz was allowing for a time their discount of like 30% to be stacked on top of Disney's 15-30% discount. That's quite a bit different than what the posters were talking about when it comes to booking straight up with Disney with no discounts applied.

Anyway, more and more lodging options being built by Disney, who frankly doesn't provide very good cleanliness or value at their existing lodging. Hmmm.

Sounds like a win for the company, and will result in lesser experiences/value for the customer. (Because possibly more crowded transportation, traffic congestion, more crowded parks, even lower housekeeper-to-room ratio).

Except for the Star Wars lodging. I couldn't quite understand what product they plan to offer there... full immersion sounds intriguing (and confusing). I guess we'll wait and see. I'm somewhat surprised that people still even care about Star Wars theming. To each his own.

I guess I can’t understand why anyone cares about rack rate. Only a fool would pay it.
He said rates sustained btwn $x and $x. I’m just saying that it isn’t so far fetched. The lower $x at a steep discount and the higher $x at lesser discount.

Well I can understand not wanting to pay rack rate for sure but the point was the OP said rates would be X for the new place, other posters said no the lowest rack rate is Y. Regardless of whether someone can get a lower rate or not it won't matter because the topic is aimed at what price point the new rooms would be at. That's why I had asked you and the other poster if your pricing was rack rate as that would invalidate other posters and validate the OP however you advised it was a discount you got and I'm fairly certain the other poster had some sort of discount on their too. Discounts are hard to incorporate into this particular discussion because there is so much variables that can occur like PIN codes, like AP rates, FL resident rates, military rates, package rates, Travel Agent rates, discounts that were able to be stacked, etc.

It was the anticipation of what the several new resorts being built and their respective rates would be. The new resorts mentioned were: Coronado Springs Tower, Riviara Resort, Star Wars Hotel. Somehow I doubt that even with the best of the best discounts that you'll see as low as $82 per night for any of those three or $73+tax per night for any of those three. OP had stated Coronado Springs Tower would average $75-$200 per night for example. I do find that hard to believe given that POP was already at $150 per night and that wasn't in the height of peak season and All-Star Sports rack rate was already $123 per night on the weekends also not in the height of peak season. We're also talking the resorts haven't even and are nowhere near close to being opened. Pricing continues to trend up. TBH I have no idea if Disney will even allow discounts on Star Wars hotel especially given the structure of the immersion they are talking about.

Park crowd has very little relationship to Disney hotel capacity. The crowd level is driven by off site guests.
