I am going to Disney with my 5 year old - just me and her this time and my 2 year old is staying home with daddy. So, we will not be using a stroller. What type of backpack or other bag did you use when you did not have a stroller to hold your "stuff" (Camera, sweatshirts, snacks, etc.)?

Sweatshirts get tied around the waist when not being worn, and everything else (suntan lotion, small wallet, small camera) fits in a waistpack. WDW is the only place I use a waistpack, and it's a Disney one, black, that I bought while on our third trip. It's lasted for years, as I only use it for a week or so at a time ;)

If your child wants to bring anything else, get her a small backpack to carry it in. My kids have been hauling their own crap since they were 5. It's amazing how light they can travel when they have to deal with the hauling.

I used a fanny pack, too! Although, I never found a Disney one. I need to do that! I carry a Disney purse all the rest of the time and go to Disney World with an ugly old fanny pack. Good idea. They come in very handy!

I would do a backpack. We like to take our own water bottles into the parks.

We are leaving tomorrow for DW:woohoo: and I've already got the backpack packed...that was a mouth full! I just have a regular LLBean bookbag that I'm carrying 1 towel, my camera, a 1st aid-kit,and some bottled water in. That's it! This is my first trip without a stroller so I'm kind of hesitant myself. I have a DS5 as well. I'll let you know how it works out for us!:thumbsup2

We were totally strollerless for the very first time 2 weeks ago. I carried a pack for the first day, for my camera, a couple water bottles, ponchos, snacks. It was annoying. That night I told everone that we were trying to go without the next day. We did, and it worked fine. I dropped down to the little point n shoot camera and put it in my cargo pocket, did not bring ponchos or snacks, and purchased a water bottle lanyard for $3.75 to use for our water bottle. It worked out great. I did have to wear cargo shorts all week, but that was much much better than the backpack.

I would also say a fanny pack since i got mine thru a hunting and fishing catalog it is alot bigger then a normal one it holds more.

Agree with everything but the fanny pack! I have a small shoulder bag But do agree with the kids part. Once I made that announcement that whatever they carried out of the room in the morning THEY carried back in or it wasn't coming it was amazing how much stuff got left in the room!!!

You really don't need that much stuff for the parks. Most people carry waaaay too much junk. it isn't the wilderness. and you'll love the freedom of no stroller.

On my last trip there with my DD who was 4 1/2, I had brought the stroller but didn't really bring it with me every day and on the days I didn't I ended up using a medium sized tote bag that I bought at Disney.

I carry a backpack. I hate fanny packs, but like to have my hands free.

Last trip I purchased one of those drawstring backpacks (and hey, it matches my waistpack!) as we carried in a few bottles of water for the students we were chaperoning, and I hated having to take it off for every attraction, and remembering to take it off the ride with me as I left also got a bit tricky :rotfl: Hey, I was in charge of 15 teenage girls - my brain was a little stressed...

When dd was young, if it didn't fit in our pockets, we didn't take it with us. The only things we really had to have were dd's inhaler (went in my pocket), room keys & credit card (in a lanyard under my shirt), money, and my little camera--all of which fit into pockets.

Now dd is 18 and she carries a big purse into the parks. :lmao: I tried to train her right but as long as she's carrying all her own crap, I don't care.
