Hi I am just wondering for those who have already and are going to have a DFTW-where did you keep your pets? Did anyone use Disney kennels?

I have a small dog but she is like my child and goes with me almost everywhere-including work. When I have to go out of town and can't take her I usually leave her with my parents but since they're going to be gone too for the wedding I don't know if I should take her with us or if I should kennel her-I don't really trust anyone else except my parents to take care of her, she's a very expensive dog and I'm afraid that someone might steal her as she is so trusting of everyone. I don't know what to do :confused3 help please!

Good question! My DF and I were going to put our cat in Hoffman House pet resort, very expensive and the nicest in town. However, we didn't feel like forking out $285 for someone to watch the kitty for 12 days. Instead, we gave a set of keys to one of his co workers to check on him everyday. We are giving her a $100 and I know she'll take much better care of him than any stinking froo froo pet resort :snooty:

One of my cousins house sat at my parents house and watched our old dog. It was great having someone stay at the house and the dog got to stay comfortably at home.

I have a pet sitter, charges $17 a day for 2 cats but well worth it. They come in 1x a day, gather mail up & turn diff lights on in the house. I only use them when my mom is out of town too. They are a family owned company - husband, wife & daughter.

Our small dog was also very expensiive - and still is. She is very sick (digestive problems and severe acid reflux), so I don't trust anyone to take care of her other than my Mom and my FMIL. But, since we will all be in FL, she will be staying at home iwht her vet. Her father lives across the street, and we are all good friends. So, I trust her more than just leaving her in the kennels.

I thought about just taking her with me, as she is a certified service dog. But, I don't know how well she will fly. And I didn't want to take the chance of her having problems the week of the wedding.

I had a great friend volunteer to come take care of our zoo. When my MOH got back she took over although I think my other friend still came over to spoil the cat, and my MOH spoiled the bunnies. :)

We're in the same delima. Kenneling is absolutely out of the question for us. We just couldn't do it to our pups. We thought about Disney kennels, but we felt that wasn't in their best interest. We plan to have them stay with the breeder we got them from. We're lucky that we still keep in touch and that she understands situations like this and would rather the dogs be happy. I know sometimes rescue reps are able to watch animals while their owners are on vacation. So that might be an option as well.

My mom's best friend will be checking in on our cats. She had no problem with it since we take care of her's everytime she goes away!

We don't have a choice but to use a kennel. We have no family near by and it's a bit much to ask someone to take care of three very active dogs.

Our vet has a kennel and daycare. There prices are reasonable and there is someone there 24/7 (that is INCREDIBLY important to me).

Ask your vet if they kennel (many do)...they would be fully able to care for any medical issues and you would have someone you "trust" to watch your pet.

The Ramada at Eastgate (right outside Disney) is pet friendly for an extra $10/day they can stay in your room- and your pet gets a gift upon check in :) Also, I think the Fort Wilderness(?) is also pet friendly and has their own kennel as well.

My Aunt says that she wouldn't leave her 2 pups to come to florida or DC for our wedding, so we researched to find a way that she could bring them. Now she has decided that she doesn't want to put them through the stress of traveling either. It's taken me a long while to get over this, but we've realized that we've done everything we can and in the end the decision is up to her... we are going to have the wedding we want, with or without her. I think that she may end up being the puppy hotel that weekend, watching our other family members pups!

I would totally trust the Disney Kennel, but I would definately leave the dog at a kennel at home. We checked out the kennel near the Main Transportation Center many years ago. The cages are small, and you have to feed and walk your dog. My suggestion is search around your home, let the dog stay there over a weekend to see how he/she deals. I think he/she would be much happier at a full service kennel at home. If your parents will be back in town they can pick him or her up sooner than you return.

Thanks guys for all the good advice- I think I may send her to the breeder- so she can be more spoiled or leave her with my MOH's parents if they are up to the challenge of spoiling a little dog. If these options don't work then I may send her to the full service kennel in our area- she already goes there for day care and loves all the employees, they always ask if she has to go home and why can't she stay longer. So she'll at least be with people she knows.

Hey there:
I have used Disney's Kennel four times since 1995 for my cats and dogs.
They are usually very nice with them and we have never had a problem.
You usually make your own little name tag and put them in the little cage yourself.
I haven't had any complaints and haven't heard of anyone having a problem.
You can always check them out before you leave your pet too.
Thanks
Gabrielle

I have a cat that gets anxiety and pees out of the box if we are gone too long...so we kenneled her at the vet kennel in the cage right next to my Parents' (mine) dog. It was a long time for her to be caged and she didn't eat very much, but it was better than a house full of pee!
