What did you do today to save money?

I walked around my house and turned off 7...count them 7...lights that were on but no one was around to need it!! My dd is the worst about that!!

I drank water with my meal at dinner tonight...a reward dinner for my ds. I was not very hungry so ordered an a la carte meal...saved about $4.

Didn't go into ANY stores at all today!

Love this thread!!

This is great People! I love all the ideas! Now I just need a saving calories thread to go to.

Well, I did meet a friend and her kids for lunch, but the kids and I split a meal and I got a side salad instead of a dinner salad.

Then I served baked potato night at home to make up for the cost.

DH has finally told me that is he ON BOARD with only having meat a couple of times a week! He just isn't willing to go totally vegetarian. I am trying to go Vegan, although I won't be giving up coffee with cream.

I had my hair colored today, one week later than usual. By stretching it out just one week, I will save the cost of two colorings over the year. I also save by getting it cut every other time -- works for me b/c my style is simple.

And, of course, I packed lunch for DH and me and am making our dinner at home tonight.

Instead of going out to lunch with friends after our homeschool parkday/meeting, we came back to my house and had hotdogs. One friend brought dessert and one chips. We had a nice time and the kids just hung out and played video games and football.

Much cheaper than lunch and a movie... especially with teenage boys!

I'm also cooking dinner at home tonight.

Took my lunch to work
Used GCs to buy my coffee
put change in the change can
Did a load of laundry in cold water

Instead of ordering out tonight we ate left overs. Today I went to Target and only bought the things I went there to get. I did not stop at The Christmas Tree Store which is right next door to Target. Still did not spend my gymbucks.:goodvibes

Double checked the price of my rental car for our upcoming trip and it had dropped $5 and then I found a new money off coupon on Mousesavers and ended up saving $5 more. Did this 3 days ago as well and saved $10 then too!

So in a few days time, I've saved $20 off my car rental just for checking!!!

I also didn't get myself something to eat while out today. Did get my DD's something though. Made them share it too!

We've cooked dinner in every night this week. Tonight I was so tempted to order pizza, but DH said he'd cook. I've been having trouble cooking lately because I'm pregnant and the smell of most things makes me gag. Fortunately DH came to the rescue and made steak tacos that everyone LOVED!!!

Keep up the good work (and tips) everyone!

I noticed that I have been spending $1.50-$2.25 per day on bottled water at work (sometimes the water runs brown out of the sinks and fountains--and well fountains in the High School that is another story!:scared: ) so $300-$450 per school year on water--when I stopped at the supermarket water was 24 for $3.99. SO, that will make it $158 per year for water--saving me 50% or more!
I used to be more aware of these things and I want to get back to that! I love this thread because it makes me cognizant to make a change everyday or at least think something through more fully--like not forgetting to bring the coupons with me when I shop:thumbsup2 .

Well, even though I spent BIG bucks on groceries and toiletries at Sam's, Walmart and our local store, I really didn't buy things that I did not need - or won't need in the future.

And even though I was going to pick up stuff at Walmart's hot food section for dinner, they were out of what I wanted. I was crabby about it and I was going to do drive thru, but then one DD had already made something for herself and the other was going to get pizza with friends. So I just made some tator tots and popcorn shrimp for DH and me. AND when I was out, I only ate pizza and a drink at Sam's for $2.65 and then later had a fruit and yogurt parfait for $1 at McDs in Walmart - so for ME, I did very well! ::yes::

I just threw away a new scrapbook catalog I got in the mail today without ordering anything!!

I transferred my prescription for my BP medicine from CVS to WalMart.
I was paying $30.00 at CVS, I paid $12.00 at WalMart.

I didn't buy a soda at the gas station when my friends went in to get coffee. I really wanted some caffeine, but there weren't prices on anything and I refused to ask! We had a fundraiser tonight at school that I ran, and I didn't come home between the end of the day and the fundraiser, so I saved 50 miles on my car and about 2 gallons of gas. I did go out to supper with friends, but I got the cheapest thing on the menu, and since DH and I normally go out on Friday nights, he stayed in and ate a frozen pizza, which saved money since only one of us ate out. And, I'm thrilled to say we made almost $600 on our fundraiser! That's about $200 more than we expected!

I also didn't buy a bread machine last night at Walmart that I really wanted. I'm going to see if any of the secondhand shops have one cheap before I buy new.

I used a Target coupon to get my son a bag of free chips to munch on - and since the toys weren't on clearance, I didn't buy any. ;) I did buy some plastic bins, but they were on sale and they fit my other New Year resolution to get organized.

Didn't buy shoes for the boy, even though I had a 40% off coupon. He's not going to wear shoes much in the summer anyway.

Only bought 2 books, even though it was a buy 4, get 1 free sale.

DH rented skis today on base for half the price of renting at the mountain.

I did not go to any stores today. I actually have gymbucks that started today but my dd does not need anymore clothes. I stayed home and cleaned the house.:)

I should have done the same thing but ended up spending $65 and tht's after the ytook off the gymbucks:rolleyes1 . My kids have enough clothes but I could not help myself.

1. Yesterday, we consolidated our credit cards and personal loan into one payment; we now pay $225/month instead of $700/monthly.

2. Didn't stop at Wawa to buy coffee after work today; it was made at home.

Recycled all of the ads that came, except for the grocery ones-which I will compare and make a list a little later today.

We are also tracking every penny that we spend this month. I've discovered that neither DH or myself are willing to add those unneeded extras, so they are just not being bought. ;)

We also informed my DD(21) that we couldn't afford the extra $500 for her to go to Finland with her old choir (she was paying some, and was being subsidized some), so, unfortunately, she will not be going. :worried: This one really hurt, since her two younger sisters will be going-on our money. But sometimes you have to say "Enough". (The older one has been on a couple of smaller choir trips that the younger two haven't been on, so that makes it a little easier.)

I just cut ds's hair. It was miserable. He insisted on watching the haircutting video that came with our haircutting set. He is watching it right now and seems very into it.:confused3

I just did my dd scholastic book order and I made my dd really look at it and pick the books she really wanted. Anyway I was able to cut the order in half of what it was on Thursday when it first came home.:cool1:
