What did you do to save money this week?

Yesterday my girlfriend who is an adm assistant and works for her best friend was in need of help. They moved into a new office and are still getting things squared away such as furniture delivered and set up, computer network being installed. But she had a doctors appt this past Thurs. and she needed someone to babysit the contractors who were there. So she called me to help out and paid me for my time. Rather than sit and watch the guys work I thought I would clean. Now the boss wants me to come in once a week to clean. :cool1:

I cooked every day this week. Usually my goal is 5 -6 days a week.

DH needed new socks. I needed a pair of dress pants and my crockpot died. So I went to Kohls spent $50 got the $10 cert. Now I will go back this week use the $10 cert and get the crockpot for $24 for an 8 quart crock! The kohls is next to Costco and I need gas and the price of gas in our area is $2.98 a gallon so I will save by going to Costco. I also have a Costco coupon for kitty litter that will save me $5.00.

I figured up my savings this week and it came to $83 between getting paid to help my GF, not eating out, and the coupons/gas savings.

I've started baking bread. It tastes so much better than the cheap junk at the store for less money. I went to Fleischman's web site and got the beginner recipe with fast acting yeast. Very, very easy. Great texture - not weird at all like some homemade bread recipes.

I also buy yeast in bulk - not those packets.

I joined the coupon train and started couponing. Cannot believe how much money I am saving:banana:. I also stay home more, water down my soaps, laundry detergent, and shampoos. Stopped buying paper towels. Making my own iced tea, and have sold some of my baby gear on craigslist.

I agree with the staying at home aspect. I did not go anywhere this weekend and by doing so saved myself money I probably would have spent.

I have also in the past week
1. Switched from a montly phone plan to a pay-as-you-go one. It is so much cheaper, I could use my old phone since it is with the same company, and since it use it so rarely it was a waste to spend $49.99 a month versus the $10 a month.

2. I made a huge batch of sugar cookie dough and froze them into individual cookies to bake later.

3. I started on some homemade christmas gifts with some items we had around the house. It will save money plus my family will appreciate it more because I made it.

More like this school year but I have stopped buying supplies for my classroom. Everytime we get low I will be sending home requests. I just took a $1200 paycut this year! I probably spent close to $400 last year. Nope not anymore. I'm not asking for expensive stuff just things like glue sticks, pencils.

The A/C has been off this whole weekend. We just got a nice burst of fall weather and have been able to open the windows.

Same here, I'm loving the cooler weather that moved in this weekend!

I finally went through our Halloween storage totes and found some costumes to list on craigslist.

The kids have a half day at school today and we have plans to get some errands done this afternoon after conferences so I've already planned what we're having for dinner so we won't be tempted to eat out. I'll bring some water and snacks in the van with us for the kids.

You just reminded me, I have to start making my own iced tea. We are quitting soda cold turkey and I think having some iced tea on hand will help.

May seem silly but I've never made my own iced tea, any recipes or tips??

Its not silly......
I bought that Mr Coffee iced tea maker that people were talking about here on the dis. I must warn you that going from sugary soda to real iced tea will be a HUGE adjustment. It will be for the better because not only will you save money but you will save your health in the mean time. I still haven't figured out a good tea bag, sugar, water ratio. Trying to figure that out myself. Wish I could help you.

I saved money by not pushing myself to go home to visit yesterday. I wasn't feeling well so besides the gas to visit family ($20 approx) lunch and supper for me and the girls and DH (heaven only knows $) since I knew I wouldn't cook or have the time.

Now if I could just say away from Target this week I would be golden.:rotfl:

Stocking up big time w/ coupons this week. Some great deals.
