What did you do for vacation BEFORE you became obsessed with Disney?

Having been to WDW 7 times in 7 years, I've almost forgotten (not really) what we did before unexpectedly becoming addicted to a very expensive Disney habit.

Yellowstone, the Tetons and San Diego are the "big" trips I remember before Disney. But most of that was before our 3rd child--now 9-- arrived--he essentially only knows Disney, so we are having a hard time getting him fired up for a much more budget friendly alternative in 2008.

Did you give up a vacation routine to become a Disney addict or have you just added it to your portfolio?

I am staying firm on my vow to break my Disney addiction--at 45 years old it is time for me to demonstrate some semblance of fiscal responsibility. So libraries and museums--here we come!

Glad to hear you came to my home town for vacation! Hope you enjoyed it!
Go Padres & Chargers!!!

In the past, we went to a Dude Ranch in Colorado..... for 5 summers! It's called Rainbow Trout Ranch. It was the BEST vacation we ever had!!!! When we hit the "jackpot" again, we will go back, FOR SURE!!!

Now mind you, our trip to WDW in Aug 08 will be our very first as a family. The DH and I visited 15 llloonnnggg years ago for our 1st anniversary, but have never been with the kids. The DS's have grown up on Disneyland...we go there at least 2-3 times a year!

I can't even stand it how excited I am to visit WDW! :yay: The DS's are going to freak out :scared1: with excitement when they find out!!! I have a sneaky suspicion that WDW will become our new favorite tho!!! ;)

There is nothing like the World!! If I were you, I'd start wearing a Disney patch to prepare yourself for the addiction ahead...once all that Disney World nicotine gets into your bloodstream, forget it--you'll be HOOKED! Have an awesome time--happy planning.

BTW...I would love to have the Chargers as my team. I'm a Minnesota fan and right now the T-Wolves, Twins and Vikings aren't worth a book of Arby's coupons--it's going to be another long winter here!

Thanks, I can't wait to tell the "secret" and have the DS's help in all the fun planning!!!
I love the Vikings...that was my team when I was a little girl - cause they wore PURPLE! Some things never change... ;)

I didn't vacation before Disney World. Back in 2000 my brother offered to pay for me to go down there with him ( I was 22 at the time ) and I begrudgingly went thinking it was "just for kids". I had been complaining that I was so sick of spending my work vacations sitting at home for a week being bored, so I think thats what pushed me to go. Thank god I did, cause now I always take my vacations and head down to Disney World! No more sitting at home for a week or two each year.

We go to Sesame Place in Langhorne, PA every June, with one year missed of the last six.

We go to Disney in "odd" years.
Even years we have babies! :rotfl2:

We have also taken the kids to Chincoteague, VA, Nashville/Pigeon Forge, TN, Columbus, OH for a VeggieTales event and the Columbus Zoo.

In '08 we'll likely to to Cincinnati to the Creation Museum and on the way home go to Cedar Point, OH.

We also do a bunch of stuff in Ontario, Canada.

I am a Disneyphile, but we want to do other things, too. :cloud9:

Prior to Disney, I was (and still am) a Key west junkie. I have been there at least 10 times and got married there. A Key West vacation is vastly different than a Disney vacation, but now I love both. Unfortunately both can be quite expensive, so now we go alternate years. Someday when we hit the lottery, we'll do one every six months.

We did the BEach OCMD mostley.

But I traveled all over with my Different sports. Entire Eastcoast Motorcross, Texas & LakeHavasue AZ.For Jetskis as well as eastcoast and then everywhere for Playing Paintball including WWoS at WDW .

They weren't really Vacations but we always did something during our down time or would stay a few days before or after. If it was a good location would take the family with me.

- Vacation every year at the Outer Banks in NC or in Ohio at my grandparents during the summers groing up

-Several trips to Skyline Drive to hike, camp, backpack for DH and myself since being married.

-Traveled back and forth between NY and VA for vacations...when we lived in NY we would come back to VA to visit my family and vice versa living back here in VA we travel to NY to visit with DH's.

-V-E-G-A-S baby!

My husband loves to camp and boat so that's what we do every other year we're not at the World. We also travel down to Northern Cal. to see my grandparents, which puts us exactly 4 minutes from that other big theme park, ummmm....Six Flags/Marine World (shhhh). Haven't been there, though, for more than 5 years ago. Mostly houseboating, though. He's a die hard slalom skier, but loves the sky ski now, too.

I'd do WDW every year, at least twice, if we lived closer. I try to sneak in a trip every year, but he always says, "no, we did that last year and you've already got next year planned, I know you do!" I love it!

Prior to Disney we did some trips to Europe.

Our first trip to Disney World was supposed to be our only trip. :lmao:

Then the next trip was supposed to be to Cuba, but we figured since we still had a couple of days left on our park hopper passes that we may as well go back to Disney World instead - right? :rolleyes1

Then, this year we weren't supposed to go on vacation at all. we were supposed to be saving our money up for a trip to Egypt in 2009. But then I got that postcard back in January offering Pop Century for $49 a night and what was I supposed to do? :confused3

That make 3 times in 4 years. :sad2:

My sister, who's my travel buddy since dh doesn't like flying too much, has already told me that NEXT time she'd like to go when the Christmas decorations are up. LOL, so much for Egypt.

The worst part is we could fly from Halifax to somewhere like London or Paris for $500 per person, when we're spending $800 per person to fly to Orlando from Halifax. And all I can think is, "Oh, I bet the Magic Kingdom is so pretty all decorated for Christmas!" :rotfl2:

We live in South Carolina, and we vacationed at places we could easily drive to: Gatlinburg (Smoky Mts.), Williamsburg, Blowing Rock, NC, Charleston, SC, and naturally, many trips to Myrtle Beach. We started going to Disneyworld nine years ago, when our kids were 7 and 9 ... five trips since then. I wish we could go there every year, but DH only wants to go there every 2 or 3 years. Darn!

Back when my DH's schedule allowed it, we did mega camping trips--mainly to National Parks out West (Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Bryce) and hit Texas, North Carolina, the Lake Michigan Circle Tour, and Niagara Falls as well. We have a pop-up camper and used to camp with my in-laws (motor home) or my parents (trailer). I miss those days. :goodvibes

We've done Disney enough that we are okay with long weekends there once a year now. But I could stand to add a few more WDW long weekends to the year!

Before Disney, we used to go camping. Most of our vacation trips were to visit out of the area family. But even with going to Disney, we still camp often and go visit family.

Summer vacation is for other places, Spring Break has always been Florida to be with my folks and every few years we would do WDW. When my Dad passes away and my Mom decided to stop spending winters in Florida we finally checked out DVC and the rest is history. pixiedust:

While Disney's been a constant for us since our 1997 trip it isn't the only place we vacation. Since '97 we've also been to the coast and woods of Maine, a couple of New Hampshire ski vacations, the lake region that's north of Toronto, Cape Cod two or three times, Williamsburg, Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, the Dominican Republic, and Cancun a couple of times. We're always looking for some place new in addition to our Disney trips - currently thinking about Sedona AZ, San Francisco and a scattering of other western US spots.

there really wasn't a before - my parents started taking us to Disney when it opened...we did have family in the area, so I guess it was "visit family in Florida"...we also camped to do/see stuff closer to home through the fall and spent summers at the lake....

as an adults: DH and I have cruised, camped, and done local travel....once DD was born the main emphais was Disney....as she got older, we addded DCL and educational trips to DC and local points of interest..(you have to throw those in to answer the "you only do Disney?!?!?" types!!!!!:lmao: )
