What did you bring that you DIDN'T use/need?

Backwards question, I know. But there are lots of threads about things we pack that are total necessities, but what about the stuff that you packed and then at the end of your trip thought, "well, that was a waste of space!" Maybe something other people (DISers) swear by but you didn't :lovestruc?

Disposable ponchos--they just weren't sturdy enough to wear in rain. Might have worked ok for a water ride, but with a slight wind, we got soaked in the rain.

Shoes-I always tend to pack to many shoes. I will buy NEW sneakers to wear in the parks and then I always end up wearing my old worn shoes or my crocs.

Food-I always take breakfast foods and snacks for the room. We end up throwing a lot of this away before we leave. This year we are going to make breakfast menus before we go, and use that as our shopping list.

Yes! Us too. Every trip! We are making a grocery list for this trip!! I am determined not to do the same this time!

I always take ponchos and breakfast food and we always use them--lol. Every family is different, in fact we were making our list today for our Nov. trip and all my kids said be sure to get extra ponchos because we used them all last time.

A mere male here (and that's all I'll ever be... sorry that's from another forum)
and YES I pack too many clothes too, mind you not as many as the rest of my rabble. This trip, I am aiming on taking enough for a week and on one of the pool days, while others sunning themselves, I'll be in the laundry. Trying to convince the others to do the same 'cause more room for stuff to bring home! :joker::joker::joker:

Poncho/Umbrella. I don't know why I always pack them because I just leave them in the room or car when it rains.

I'm an admitted overpacker.

Last year, I got the bright idea to bring an entire SUITCASE full of snacks, each in their own baggie per day. I thought, "It will be cheaper and healthier for us!!".

Then I saw the snacks at WDW and that idea went out the window pretty quick. Our nuts and fruit snacks paled in comparison with what we found and I took the rest back home (where I finally finished the last pack of nuts about a month ago). It's a vacation...splurge a little. Actually, I would have saved more money had I *not* bought the extra stuff!

Oh, and clothes. I always bring too many clothes. Shoes too. Decorations for the room (really???!!!!!) too. Oh, the list goes on.

My goal for 2012 is to pack much lighter. And now that I know what snacks are waiting for me, the only nut I'm bringing from home is my guy! LOL

Snacks - I think we ate 1 granola bar the entire time.

Ponchos - we didn't use them at all. I'd rather just get wet.

A case of water - we drank 3 bottles, the rest we gave to the maid.

Moleskin - it wouldn't stick to my feet and just rolled up and worked it's way under my foot.

I hate moleskin. I swear its the bane of my existence. I always eat most of the snacks I bring though (typically most of those on the plane lol, something to do when I can't settle down!) I usually do take some granola bars or something though and will this time too. I am one of those that needs to eat at least a little something when I get up. I have 3 breakfast ADRs so I plan on grabbing a drink at the foodcourt at Pop in my mug before going to bed, then I'll have my drink and breakfast "snack" to hold me over til I get to real breakfast.

As for bring it and never use it, I always bring Tums and never take them but still can't bring myself not to throw some in my bag!

Yup! We bought some dollar store ones and mine ripped wide open after I put it on. I had to buy a WDW one! Ponchos are great to bring but invest in some decent ones and not the cheap-o ones!

This happens to us too! We even pack a few snacks in our park bag and never eat them. The next trip I'm still taking snacks, just way less. I know there was a time or two in line we were hungry and the snacks did come in handy.

I gotta agree with the Moleskin too. It always got all sweaty and peeled off. Just do a little walking in your shoes before you go and get your feet prepared. In addition to this Bandaid makes a type called "sport strip" which are a little padded and stick on like none other! I banged up my ankle with a cart at work and my bandaid stayed on through 4 showers! It probably would have lasted longer but it was time to remove it.

Another agree on Moleskin being a waste of money. we even brought a scissors for the moleskin and it wasn't worth it.
I buy a package of blister band aids and it works better. They are not cheap, but stay on where they are stuck.
Also, no need to bring shampoo. The Disney stuff is fine, but always bring my own conditioner.

Bottled water. I use a refillable water bottle now, and get cups of ice water from CS restaurants to fill it.

Snacks - I always buy too many! It's nice to have a few things like trail mix and "Jif to Go" peanut butter tubs from home (to pair with apple slices and celery sticks). And I eat breakfast in the room every day except one, so cereal and milk are important. But we overdo it with snacks, especially things like tortilla chips, salsa, and cookies to keep in the room. I'd rather buy WDW snacks, for the most part!

Too many clothes. I'm an overpacker, and toss lots of "just in case" things in my suitcase. Last trip, I took half of the clothes I planned to bring, and then did laundry mid-trip. Good decision!

I think shampoo depends on your hair type. I have fairly thick hair (shoulder length and I still need a decent amount) so I tend to need more. I bring a small bottle of my own (or sometimes several of the other hotel shampoos I already have :rotfl:) and leave the hotel stuff for my husband.

Strangely, we really used the moleskin we brought. We didn't use it on our skin, we stuck it to the inside of my daughter's crocs where the rivets are because they were rubbing and giving her blisters. We also used it to line the underside of my son's pin lanyard because it was irritating his neck.

I took snacks and we did eat them esp standing in the lines. I also took a small really light backpack the ones the kids use for gym clothes (one with strings and could fit in your pocket if empty). I also used kool aid packets and added them to my water (hate plain water) - didn't use ponchos. Took WAY too many clothes. Used one pair of shorts as much as possible because it had a pocket low and on the side that had a button and held my phone without falling out worries!!) the one day I didn't use those shorts I lost my phone on the ride and had to wait to get it until the ride when all the way through again.

By the way those little light backpacks are great to carry and fit in all the holders on the rides even with the few snacks in it!

We never put stuff in our shorts at parks because of this! It make have a button but stuff can still fly out! Unless it has a zipper or about 5 buttons all along I wouldn't trust the pocket :rotfl:
